Auburn's Fralick, Rembert named Freshman All-Americans by Baseball America
Fralick and Rembert made early impacts for the Tigers, impressing the experts at Baseball America. The awards keep rolling in for Auburn baseball after their turnaround season. The latest players acknowledged for their 2025 season are freshmen Chase Fralick and Chris Rembert. On Monday, they were both named to the First Team Freshman All-America team by Baseball America. Both Fralick and Rembert were honored this season, along with Bub Terrell, on the Freshman All-SEC Team. Fralick played catcher for the Tigers in 2025. He was third on the team with a batting average of .335 and was fifth on the team with 41 RBIs. He played well in helping guide the Tigers to a Regional Championship. In the three games versus Central Connecticut State, Stetson, and NC State, he had four hits and one RBI. Fralick scored two runs in an 11-1 win over NC State to clinch the Regional Championship. Second baseman Chris Rembert was not only on the Freshman All-SEC Team but was also on the All-SEC Second Team. He was second on the Tigers with a batting average of .344 and third on the team with 72 hits. Rembert was also third on the team with ten home runs behind Ike Irish and Cooper McMurray. Rembert had perhaps one of his best games of the season against NC State with four hits and four RBIs. He had another four-hit game earlier in the season against Mississippi State in a 6-5 win on April 25th. Both Rembert and Fralick were huge parts of the Tigers' success, as they were one of the top seeds in the NCAA Baseball Tournament and hosted their first-ever Super Regional. GA jail employee charged with DUI after traffic stop
A northwest Georgia jail employee is off the job after he was arrested over the weekend. [DOWNLOAD: Free WSB-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] According to officials, around 1:20 a.m., Dallas police pulled over Khalil Alexander Rembert for failure to maintain lane. The Polk County Sheriff's Office said Rembert was an employee at the Polk County Jail. New job seekers nudge unemployment rate up to 4.6%
BOSTON (SHNS) – The statewide unemployment rate climbed again in April to 4.6%, slightly widening the gap with the national joblessness rate, labor officials said Friday. Citing federal data, the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development announced that unemployment in Massachusetts rose two-tenths of a percentage point from March to April. The national unemployment rate remained level at 4.2% in that span. It was the fourth straight month that both the labor force and the unemployment rate grew. Compared to April 2024, the labor force included about 52,000 more people and the unemployment rate was 0.7 percentage points higher. Employers also added about 7,700 jobs in April, according to results of a different monthly labor survey, building on the 2,800 positions added in March. Department of Economic Research Chief Economist Mark Rembert said Friday that the job market remained stable 'despite economic headwinds.' 'The unemployment rate edged up, but most significantly, we haven't seen an uptick in layoffs or new unemployment claims, meaning the uptick is being driven by more people entering the workforce and looking for work,' Rembert said in a statement. While employment is relatively stable, many businesses have voiced low confidence in the local economic outlook amid uncertainty about federal spending and tariffs. Economists have also forecast sluggish growth in Massachusetts. Auburn freshman Chris Rembert wins SEC Player of the Week Chris Rembert is first freshman to win SEC Player of the Year this season On Monday, the SEC announced that Auburn freshman Chris Rembert had been named SEC Player of the Week. He had a great week batting .500 and was 9 of 18 at the plate with two home runs and five RBIs. This season, Rembert is batting .324 with six home runs and 26 RBIs. He has also hit eight doubles this season. Rembert is the first freshman to win the award this season. He started the week by going two for five against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in a 1-0 win for the Tigers. However, he had his top performances against the Mississippi State Bulldogs over the weekend. In the 6-5 game one win, Rembert had four hits at four at-bats and drove in two runs. He helped break a 2-2 tie in the fourth inning with a double to lead to runs scored by Chase Fralick and Cooper McMurray. Game two in the series was not as productive. The Tigers lost the game 12-7 due to the pitchers' struggles on Saturday. Rembert did have one home run in the game, though. That was his only hit of the game, and it did get the Tigers within 10-5 in the seventh inning. Auburn picked a 14-8 win on Sunday that clinched the series. Rembert was two of five in the game with one home run and two RBIs. The Tigers led 3-2 in the second inning when Rembert hit a two-run home run to give them a 5-2 lead. The No. 11 Tigers will now look to continue their momentum, as well as Rembert. On Tuesday night, they return to the field in Hoover versus the Samford Bulldogs. Auburn Tigers remain No. 11 in latest USA TODAY Baseball Coaches Poll Auburn Tigers remain at No. 11 with wins over Georgia Tech and Mississippi State The Auburn Tigers stay at No. 11 in the latest USA TODAY Baseball Coaches Poll released on Monday. Auburn went 3-1 last week with a mid-week win over Georgia Tech, and a weekend series win over Mississippi State. The Auburn bats came alive over the weekend with 27 runs scored. It had been a struggle on offensive over the previous four games. Auburn got the week started on with a 1-0 win over Georgia Tech to sweep the season versus the Yellow Jackets. The Tigers used four pitchers in the game allowing just two hits and struck out 15 batters. Christian Chatterton got the start and pitched four innings with six strikeouts. Auburn then took two of three games from the Mississippi State Bulldogs for another SEC series win. The Tigers took game one with a 6-5 win. Freshman Chris Rembert started his big weekend with a four-hit performance and two RBIs. He broke a 2-2 tie in the fourth with a double that scored both Chase Fralic and Cooper McMurray. Game two was a struggle for the Auburn pitching staff. The pitchers gave up 12 runs on 14 hits, and the Tigers were down 10-1 in the fourth inning in the 12-7 loss. Starting pitcher Cade Fisher gave up four runs from a couple of two-run home runs. Rembert only had one hit in the game, but it was a solo home run in the seventh to make the score 10-5. The Tigers took the series on Sunday with a 14-8 win. Auburn used a six-run second inning to take an 8-2 lead. Rembert hit a two-run home run followed by a three-run home run in the inning. Auburn also scored three runs in both the fourth and eighth innings. Auburn is one of ten teams from the SEC in the latest rankings. The rest of the teams include Texas (No. 1), LSU (No. 2), Arkansas (No. 5), Tennessee (No. 6), Georgia (No. 7), Vanderbilt (No. 15), Alabama (No. 16), Ole Miss (No.18), and Oklahoma (No. 21). The Tigers also received a high ranking for Baseball America at No. 5. Auburn will return to the diamond on Tuesday night when they play Samford in Hoover at 6 p.m. CT.
