PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — The City of Portsmouth has released information informing the public about what city services will be impacted by the incoming winter storm. Snow is expected to begin falling late Wednesday afternoon and continue through Thursday evening. WAVY Weather Detailed Forecast All City of Portsmouth facilities and offices will be closed on Wednesday, Feb. 19, and Thursday, Feb. 20. Wednesday, Feb. 19:Routes collected until roads become resumes Saturday, February 22. Thursday, Feb. 20:Routes collected Saturday, February 22. Friday, Feb. 21:Routes collected Monday, February 24. If your trash, recycling, or bulk is not collected, leave your cans out. HRT to suspend services early on Wednesday, all day Thursday due to winter storm The City of Portsmouth has 10 snow plows to pretreat the 12 bridges and overpasses with sand and salt Tuesday, Feb. 18. Roads will be plowed when two to four inches of snow have fallen. The Parks and Recreation Department clears sidewalks for city buildings and pre-treat the courts, fire and police administration, City Hall, 911 and the Portsmouth City Jail. The city does not plow neighborhoods. All Portsmouth Public Schools and administrative offices will be closed Wednesday, Feb. this closure, the day will be a Remote Learning Day for students. CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — As winter weather conditions worsen on Wednesday, some Charlotte area school districts are opting to go remote, close, or delay the start of school. Snow, ice, and freezing rain present hazardous driving conditions, making it dangerous for buses and vehicles to travel safely. As a result, school officials closely monitor weather forecasts and road conditions to determine whether it is safe for students to attend class. While these closures can be disruptive, they are essential to keeping everyone out of harm's way. Below is a developing list of school closures, delays, and remote learning: : A 'true snow day' with no school and no remote learning for Wednesday, Feb. 19. Staff will have an optional workday. : Remote Learning Day, Wednesday, Feb. 19. QUEST will not operate. : Remote Learning Day, Wednesday, Feb. 19. There will be no extracurricular activities, facility use, or athletics. : Half-Day/Early-Release on Wednesday, Feb. 19. No after-school activities. Iredell-Statesville Schools: Remote Learning Day, Wednesday, Feb. 19. : No school for students on Wednesday, Feb. 19. : Remote Learning Day, Wednesday, Feb. 19. Kid Connection will be closed. NC Governor Stein announces state of emergency ahead of winter storms While this will not be a major winter storm for the Charlotte area, it will still have impacts on travel, especially Wednesday evening into Thursday morning. We will start to see wintry precipitation move in Wednesday morning around 8-10 a.m. This will start as a wintry mix of freezing rain and sleet for the Charlotte metro, with snow north of Charlotte towards Interstate 40. By Wednesday afternoon and evening, we will just be tracking scattered snow showers across the region. The wintry mix will decrease as the day goes on. Very light snowfall accumulations are expected for the Charlotte metro, with only a trace to an inch of snow likely. Spots along I-40 will experience 1-2″ of snow. While the mountains could see between 2-3″ of snow, possibly some isolated higher totals in the high country.
