Shooting in Washington's Renton leaves 'multiple victims', police launch investigation
A shooting was reported in Washington's Renton early on Sunday and certain media reports claimed that there could be "multiple victims". The Renton Police Department said officials are responding to a triple homicide at NE 18th & Kirkland Ave NE . Officers were called to the area shortly after 7:30 p.m, according to KOMO News. Police have asked the public to avoid the area. The shooting took place near Meadow Crest Playground , Meadow Crest Pickleball and Tennis Court, and Meadow Crest Early Learning Center. Reports suggest three people have been killed in the shooting, but there's no official police confirmation on the death count yet. A representative confirmed to KOMO News that there was a shooting and three victims had been killed. Renton, WA couple looks to move after claiming years of homophobic harassment
The Brief A Renton couple says they're facing ongoing homophobic harassment, including slurs and an attempted break-in at their home. Fernando Vega says he was shot with an airsoft gun after confronting a group trying to break into his sister's room. Renton Police are investigating the incidents, and the family is raising funds to move to a safer neighborhood. RENTON, Wash. - A Renton couple says they are looking to move to a new home after enduring years of homophobic harassment in the Fairwood neighborhood. Fernando Vega says his Ring camera captured kids in his apartment complex ripping off a Pride flag from his porch in the summer of 2023. Vega says he spoke with the boy's parents, who later apologized. But in April 2025, Vega says his Ring camera captured a boy, claiming he was the person who stole his Pride flag in 2023. Vega claims he, his husband and his sister have suffered harassment, homophobic and racial slurs, and this past week, an attempted break-in. "I do not believe this is a joke, this is malicious," said Vega. Vega says he and his family were at home on Wednesday night, when a group tried to break into his sister's room, and he went running after them. "That's when I told them they needed to get off the property, yelling at them, trying to get them to leave," said Vega. Instead of apologizing, Vega says someone in the group pulled out an airsoft gun and began shooting at him. "I was hit probably between 20 to 30 times," said Vega. The Renton Police Department confirms officers did meet with Vega for a report of malicious mischief, and they are currently investigating this case. In the meantime, Vega and his family are trying to move to a more accepting neighborhood and have started a GoFundMe to help them with moving expenses. Where is Ze-Qyiah? Search underway for missing Renton teen
The Renton Police Department is asking the public for help finding a missing 14-year-old girl. Her name is Ze-Qyiah Thomas-Carter. She was last seen on 115th Lane Southeast around 12:020 a.m. on Monday. The department says they're worried about her because she doesn't have her required medications with her. Ze-Qyiah was last seen wearing pink and white Snoopy pajama pants, a black shirt, and possibly a black sweater. She had a purple and black backpack with her. If you see her, call 911 right away.

Small plane skids off runway and into Lake Washington
The Renton Police Department says a small plane skidded off the runway and into Lake Washington Sunday afternoon. It happened at the north end of the Renton Airport. The pilot and passenger weren't hurt and were able to climb out of the plane. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) have been notified of the crash and will investigate the cause.

Encampments cleared out along Cedar River Trail in Renton
The Renton Police Department worked with King County Public Works on Tuesday to clear out a series of homeless encampments along the Cedar River Trail. 'Conditions in which these people are living are really not safe, it's not sanitary, and it's almost inhumane to have people existing in that lifestyle,' said Sgt. Denis Moynihan with the Directed Enforcement Team. 'Yes, we are telling people they can't live here, but we also have connections to get them resources if they choose to accept the offer.' The department says it worked with a social service provider last week to alert people living in the encampments that they would be cleared this week. They also left a notice on one vacant encampment so people would know when the sweep would take place. Sgt. Moynihan says three people who were open to the idea of drug treatment last week declined the offer during Tuesday's sweep. 'One of the things we are learning is we have to be very persistent with these offers and continue to reach out, make the contacts, and follow up,' he said. 'That's something we are working on with the Recovery Navigator Program.' The goal of the Recovery Navigator Program is to steer people who are struggling with addiction and living on the streets toward recovery options instead of jail. Sgt. Moynihan hopes that if they continue to bring the same people out, they can establish a relationship with people and get them to accept the resources being offered.
