Eastleigh river crash bus firm gives thanks to rescuers
The boss of a bus firm has expressed his gratitude to people who helped after a double-decker crashed off a road into a footage showed the Bluestar vehicle, carrying Barton Peveril College students, swerving through oncoming traffic before ploughing through railings in Bishopstoke Road, bus driver, a 69-year-old man, and a 16-year-old female student sustained serious injuries in the incident on Thursday at about 10:00 BST. Three other students suffered serious injuries and a further 15 had minor Tyldsley, Bluestar general manager, said: "...we would like to extend our gratitude to those who witnessed the event and helped those in need..." The driver of the bus was hailed a "hero" on Friday by Dr John Fisher, who was one of the first to arrive on the helped rescue students and told the BBC: "It feels that he [the bus driver] tried to ditch it to avoid a head-on crash... it's a bit of a miracle."Another witness previously told the BBC the driver reported that his brakes and accelerator failed at the same time. A spokesperson for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary confirmed an investigation is force previously said the three students with serious injuries - two girls and one boy all aged 17 - were discharged from the 15 other passengers, aged between 16 and 18, three received hospital treatment. Two people remain in serious condition in hospital after Eastleigh bus crash
Two people remain in a serious condition in hospital after a double decker bus carrying students crashed through railings into the River Itchen in Hampshire. Eight people in total, including the bus driver, were taken to Southampton General Hospital following the incident in Eastleigh yesterday morning (26 June). Four have now been discharged while four remain in hospital. Eyewitnesses described the bus swerving through traffic on Bishopstoke Road before careering off the road. The bus has now been recovered from the river and the road has reopened. Operator Bluestar confirmed there were 19 students from Barton Peveril Sixth Form College on-board at the time of the crash. General Manager, Richard Tyldsley, said: 'Our thoughts are with everybody involved, and we wish those who were injured a full and speedy recovery. 'At this time, we do not know the circumstances behind this incident and are carrying out an immediate investigation. "We are also assisting the police as they carry out their own enquiries.' Hampshire Police have praised members of the public who helped at the scene and led passengers to safety. Inspector Andy Tester also thanked everyone for their patience as they dealt with the incident, alongside the force's emergency services colleagues. Kelly West, whose house backs onto the river, heard a screeching noise and looked out the window and saw the vehicle career off the road. She described the moment as like watching the action movie 'Speed'. Mrs West said she ran to the scene and spoke to the driver who told her that the accelerator was jammed and the brakes failed. An investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.

Three people taken to hospital after college double-decker bus ends up in river
The Blustar bus carrying pupils from Barton Peveril Sixth Form College came off the road and ended up in a river at Bishopstoke Road, Eastleigh, Hampshire, at 10.07am on Thursday. A South Central Ambulance Service spokesman said: 'We have sent multiple units to the incident including five ambulances, two helicopters, and specialist response units. 'We're continuing to support and assess patients on scene. All patients have been removed from the bus. Three high priority patients are being taken to hospital. Around 14 with less serious injuries are being treated on scene.' The college posted on Facebook that an incident centre had been set up for parents and it was 'working closely' with police. It states: 'We are aware of an incident involving the College 607 Bus. College staff are working closely with the police to ensure the safety and well-being of all students. 'We ask that people do not attend the actual scene. For concerned parents, an incident centre has been established at The Hub at Bishopstoke. 'An officer and college staff will be available at The Hub to provide updates and address any questions you may have.' A Hampshire Constabulary spokesman said: 'We are currently dealing with an incident on Bishopstoke Road in Eastleigh, after College Bus 607 for Barton Peveril students left the carriageway into a river. 'Emergency services are in attendance and the road has been closed so please avoid the area. 'It is anticipated the road may be closed for up to 12 hours for investigation and recovery work. 'Everyone on the bus has been accounted for and all injured persons are being treated by the ambulance service.' We are on scene of an RTC in Bishopstoke Eastleigh. 'We do not currently have full details of their injuries and are following their progress closely.
