Search for missing woman feared to be in danger is over, SC sheriff says

A search for a missing South Carolina woman who was feared to be in danger is over. Chelsea Clayton was safety located, the Richland County Sheriff's Department said Tuesday. 'Thanks to the stories run by our local media partners, a community member that had seen Clayton knew to contact (the sheriff's department) and was able to advise of Clayton's location,' the sheriff's department said in a news release. Clayton was publicly reported missing Monday. The 33-year-old had not been seen for days, the sheriff's department said. Clayton was last seen July 19, according to the release. At about 6:20 p.m. last Saturday, Clayton was seen leaving the Circle K convenience store/gas station, at the intersection of Leesburg and Trotter roads, when she got into an unknown vehicle that was headed toward Garners Ferry Road, the sheriff's department said. The sheriff's department did not say if foul play was suspected in Clayton's disappearance, but said the 33-year-old 'is believed to be a danger to herself.' Information about why Clayton could be a threat to herself was not available. The sheriff's department also said it's also concerned that Clayton got into a vehicle with an unknown individual. Runaway pig causes chaos on major road

Highway patrol officers in South Carolina have rescued a pig from one of the state's busiest interstates. The animal was safely apprehended after a short foot chase. The pig sustained no injuries during the incident, and officers were able to get traffic moving again. A search for a missing South Carolina woman is over. Mary Tresca Cook was safely located hours after she was publicly reported missing by the Richland County Sheriff's Department Wednesday. Information about when and where Cook was located was not available. Before she was tracked down, the 43-year-old had not been seen for days, the sheriff's department said in a news release. Cook was last seen Monday in the 2700 block of Colonial Drive, according to the release. That's in Columbia, in the area between North Main Street and Two Notch Road. A man was killed Saturday in a shooting at an apartment complex in Columbia, according to the Richland County Sheriff's Department. At about 6 a.m., deputies responded to a call about a shooting in the 1000 block of Southern Drive, the sheriff's department told The State on Sunday. That's the Redpoint Columbia apartments, a complex that is marketed for students in the area near the University of South Carolina campus. The apartment complex is in the area between Shop Road and Bluff Road, about 2 miles from Williams-Brice Stadium. Deputies found an adult inside of an apartment building, and the man had been shot multiple times, according to the sheriff's department. EMS was called and both those emergency responders and deputies attempted to save the man's life, but he died at the scene, the sheriff's department said. The Richland County Coroner's Office, which was also called to the apartment complex, has not publicly identified the victim. No other injuries were reported. There was no word about a shooter or shooters, or anyone else involved in the gunfire. Information about a possible motive for the shooting was not available. No arrests have been reported, but the shooting continues to be investigated by the sheriff's department.
