Brutal 'honour killing' caught on video sparks nationwide outrage
Listen to article A horrifying video emerged on social media on Sunday, depicting the brutal killing of a man and a woman in Balochistan, in the name of so-called honour, sending shockwaves across the country and beyond. As the video spread like wildfire, the public recoiled in disbelief. The graphic images sparked immediate outrage, igniting a firestorm of condemnation from civil society, religious scholars, and political leaders alike. The victims, whose identities were not immediately known, were allegedly targeted by their own family or community members — a grim reminder of the archaic and deadly tradition of honour killings that continues to plague parts of Pakistan. The video purportedly showed that a few armed men were apparently shooting and killing a man and a woman publically. In this video, all the people were speaking in the Brahui language and their accent was the same as that spoken in different areas of Quetta and Mastung, according to BBC. The video is apparently made in a mountainous area where there is a desert around a dirt road. In the beginning, several vehicles and Jeeps can be seen in broad daylight, outside of which there are several people. Apparently, these men ask a woman dressed in a red dress and a wheatish chador to stand some distance from the vehicles. During this, the woman could be heard in Brahui that "only shooting is allowed, nothing else". The woman did not resist, rather stood quietly away from the vehicles. After this conversation, a few shots were also fired one by one. According to BBC, it was not clear in the video whether the man or the woman was shot first, however, after the first round of shots, a voice is heard saying "kill Him," which is followed by the sound of multiple shots. Talking to the media at the Karachi Press Club, Balochistan government spokesperson Shahid Rind confirmed that the incident took place in Balochistan, but did not say when and where in the province. He revealed that one accused had been arrested. "The names of the deceased have been obtained, and the tribes they belonged to, but these cannot be disclosed at this time," he said. Their bodies had not yet been recovered, he continued, saying further that their relatives had not filed any police case. "The pictures of those seen in the video were given to Nadra [National Database and Registration Authority] and with their help one of the accused is arrested. Raids are being conducted to arrest the other accused," Rind said. "Initially, this incident seemed to be taking place on Eidul Azha [which was celebrated in June] but we cannot confirm it yet. Both the families of the murdered persons have not filed any police report, therefore, now a case has been registered on the government's complaint," Rind said. Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti took notice of the incident, ordering a thorough investigation and a detailed report on the matter. He ordered law-enforcement agencies to arrest all perpetrators without delay. "The rule of law will not be compromised. Those who challenge the writ of the state will be dealt with firmly. No one will be allowed to take the law into their own hands," Bugti said in a statement issued by the Chief Minister's Secretariat. Rind assured the public that the provincial government would take all legal steps to ensure justice is served. "The Balochistan government will not remain a silent spectator in the face of such cruelty. All legal means will be used to bring those responsible to justice," Rind said. Meanwhile, the provincial government has also appealed to the public for assistance in identifying the suspects. Citizens are being urged to share any information that may help in locating the individuals involved.

3 dead, 7 injured as passenger bus targeted in Balochistan
World Kalat, July 16 (UNI) At least three people were killed and seven others sustained injuries after unidentified assailants opened gunfire on a passenger coach travelling from Karachi to Quetta near a checkpost in Balochistan's Kalat, police said on Wednesday. This is the second such attack in less than a week in the restive province, which has witnessed a deadly year with scores of fatalities due to terrorist attacks, Geo news reported. The attack occurred when the bus approached Nemargh Cross near Kalat district. The assailants, who were waiting on top of nearby mountains, first opened fire and then hurled hand grenades at the vehicle, as per reports. The vehicles that run on this route carry approximately 40 to 50 passengers. However, the exact number of passengers on board the targeted bus remains unknown. Balochistan government spokesperson, Shahid Rind noted that security agencies, district authorities, and rescue teams reached the scene immediately. The wounded were transferred to the Qalat DHQ Hospital, where an emergency has been declared. Security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to pursue the assailants, Rind said, adding that the attackers are still at large. "Initial reports suggest that the attackers were waiting to strike. They closed the street from both sides," he added. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has strongly condemned the terrorist incident, which he said was carried out by the Fitna al Hindustan — a term used for terrorist organisations in Balochistan. Armed men kidnap, kill nine bus passengers in Balochistan, BLF claims responsibility
Pakistan's authorities retrieved the bullet-ridden bodies of nine bus passengers kidnapped by insurgents in a spate of attacks on buses in the mountainous southwestern province of Balochistan, officials said on Friday read more Authorities in Pakistan have recovered the bullet-riddled bodies of nine bus passengers who were kidnapped by insurgents during a series of attacks in the mountainous southwestern province of Balochistan, officials confirmed on Friday. The separatist Baloch Liberation Front (BLF) claimed responsibility, accusing the victims —identified as laborers — of spying for Pakistani intelligence agencies. Baloch separatists, long demanding a larger share of regional resources, have previously targeted individuals from the eastern province of Punjab in similar killings. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Government official Naveed Alam said the bodies were discovered overnight in the mountains, while provincial spokesman Shahid Rind confirmed that the passengers were seized from two buses Thursday evening. 'We are identifying the bodies and reaching out to their families,' Reuters quoted Rind as saying, adding that the victims, working as labourers in the restive region, were returning home to Punjab. They include two brothers who were going to attend the funeral of their father, Alam said. Ethnic insurgents accuse Pakistan's government of stealing regional resources to fund expenditure elsewhere, mainly in the sprawling province of Punjab. Security forces foiled three insurgent attacks on Thursday before the kidnappings, Rind said, accusing neighbour and arch rival India of backing the militants. The Indian foreign ministry did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment. New Delhi denies accusations by Islamabad that it is funding, training and backing the militants in a bid to stoke instability in the region, where Pakistan relies on China among international investors to develop mines and mineral processing. 'India is now doubling down to further its nefarious agenda through its proxies,' the Pakistani army said in a statement in remarks that followed the worst fighting in nearly three decades between the nuclear-armed foes in May. The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) is the strongest among the insurgent groups long operating in the area bordering Afghanistan and Iran, a mineral-rich region. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD In recent months, separatists have stepped up their attacks, mostly targeting Pakistan's military, which has launched an intelligence-based offensive against them. Their other main targets have been Chinese nationals and interests, in particular the strategic port of Gwadar on the Arabian Sea, with the separatists accusing Beijing of helping Islamabad to exploit resources. The BLA blew up a railway track and took over 400 train passengers hostage in an attack in March that killed 31.

Terrorists slaughter nine passengers
Listen to article Terrorists belonging to the Fitna al-Hindustan on Thursday killed at least nine passengers after abducting them from buses in the Loralai district of Balochistan, a district administration official and the provincial government spokesperson said. Loralai commissioner Saadat Hussain told a private news channel that the terrorists took out the passengers from the buses near the Sardhaka area of the district and shot them dead after checking their identity cards. Balochistan government spokesperson Shahid Rind said that the terrorists, who carried out this gruesome attack belonged to the "Fitna-al-Hindustan". The term refers to India-funded terrorist organisations operating in Balochistan. "Brutal action by terrorists of Fitna al-Hindustan in Sardhaka area of Balochistan. Terrorists killed nine innocent Pakistanis after taking them out of the buses," Rind said in a statement. "The brutal killing of innocent citizens by Fitna-al-Hindustan is barbaric." Rind and district administration officials said that the security forces responded immediately to the incident and rushed to the scene. "The terrorists escaped in the dark of the night but the forces are pursuing them," Rind said. Rind said that the law enforcement agencies remained on high alert to safeguard the lives, property, and belongings of the public. "This is an attack on the peace and unity of Pakistan. We will foil the enemy's plot. The enemy's evil intentions and their hostile activities will be crushed," he added.

Balochistan govt reassures public after Mastung incident
Spokesperson for the Government of Balochistan, Shahid Rind, on Thursday addressed a press conference in Quetta, outlining the provincial government's swift response to recent security incidents and reiterating its commitment to improved governance and institutional transparency. Commenting on the security breach that occurred in Mastung a day earlier, Rind acknowledged that the incident briefly created a sense of unease among the public. However, he emphasized that the state responded promptly, with security forces neutralizing four militants in an immediate counter-operation, helping to restore calm and public confidence. Rind also confirmed that Rs40 million were looted during the incident, largely from private banks operating with independent security arrangements. He said the provincial administration is now reviewing security protocols and is working to bolster protection for both public and private financial institutions to prevent such incidents in the future. Addressing concerns regarding the formation of District Coordination Committees (DCCs) — a new initiative under the provincial budget — Rind defended the move, describing it as a step toward enhanced accountability and better oversight of development schemes. He rejected allegations of administrative overreach, clarifying that Deputy Commissioners have not been given the role of Project Directors in these committees.
