Forget Ring - this Blink doorbell alternative is only £28.99

The Blink Doorbell camera is on sale now for £28.99 - down from £49.99 for a limited time Video doorbells, now more affordable and capable than ever, are a great way to keep an eye on your home while you're away, serving as a security camera. For those seeking a bargain without wanting to fully commit, Amazon has an offer that might be worth considering. The Blink Doorbell camera is currently priced at £28.99, down from its original price of £49.99 for a limited period. Given this price, it's certainly worth thinking about. The camera enables Brits to answer their door from anywhere using their smartphone, with 1080p HD day and infrared night video, and two-way audio. Blink boasts of long-lasting battery life, customised alerts, and privacy settings. For shoppers concerned about the set-up process, it can be completed within minutes using the two included AA lithium batteries and then connected to Wi-Fi via the app. The newly designed internal battery seal also offers an IP54 weather resistance rating to protect against Britain's harsh weather conditions, reports the Express. Unlike Ring, Blink allows customers to store clips and videos on a separate device without the need for a subscription fee. For those wanting some alternatives, there's the Ring Battery Video Doorbell for £79.99. It comes with extremely quick set-up within five minutes and high-definition video recording. There's also the Arlo video doorbell that comes in for a slightly more expensive £95.99 - and it comes with 2K cameras and person/package detection. Grab the Blink video doorbell for £28.99 £49.99 £28.99 Amazon GET DEAL Product Description Shoppers are singing praises for the Blink doorbell, with one enthusing: "Now, I'm all for keeping an eye on the doorstep, especially with the little ones running about. This Blink Video Doorbell does just the trick, and it doesn't need any wires, which is a bonus for those of us who aren't keen on DIY. "Setting it up was fairly straightforward, though it took a few tries to get the hang of it. First, you pop in the batteries and connect the Sync Module 2 to your Wi-Fi. "Then, you download the Blink app, create an account, and add the doorbell and module. The app guides you through the rest, which is basically scanning QR codes and following on-screen instructions. "The picture quality is decent, even in the evenings. I can clearly see who's at the door, even if they're lurking in the shadows. The two-way talk feature is handy too - I can tell the postie where to leave a parcel, or have a quick chat with the neighbours without having to open the door." Yet, not everyone is delighted; some have raised issues about battery life. One shopper pointed out, "Great piece of kit that works really well with the other blink products I have, as well as Alexa. "My issue is battery life. I have had it for two months and four days, and I am about to change the batteries for the second time. I'm not sure if this is just mine, but it is slightly annoying. The listing says long battery life, but it really isn't."

Best Ring and video doorbell deals for Amazon Prime Day

Amazon Prime Day has arrived - and these video doorbells from Ring, Google and Arlo are worth considering Amazon Prime Day is here, and shoppers can find a huge pile of great deals. And for Scots in the market for a new video doorbell, there's plenty to choose from. Video doorbells have become a really useful household item. They give homeowners a sense of security and allow shoppers to keep an eye on packages and visitors while away. And during Amazon Prime Day, there are tons of great deals from the likes of Eufy, Ring and other brands that are well worth picking up. We're going to round up the best deals to grab and why shoppers should consider picking them up - but also the pros and cons so they can make an informed decision. Here's a roundup of the best deals we've found: eufy E340Video Doorbell Eufy is one of the leading brands when it comes to video doorbells - and its weirdly-named E340 doorbell is currently £89.99, making it one of our more expensive picks on the list. This doorbell comes with two cameras that work together to deliver advanced HD viewing with some of the best pictures on the market. It also allows shoppers to install it with battery power or wired power, depending on their preference. And for those who hate paying a monthly fee, Eufy prides itself that shoppers don't need to pay one - unless they want extra features as all recordings can be stored on the device. Some buyers have complained about the doorbell being a bit slow via the app however - so one thing to consider before purchasing. It can be picked up here for £89.99. Ring Battery Video Doorbell (2024) It wouldn't be Amazon Prime Day without a Ring doorbell sale - and of course, the latest Ring doorbell iteration is currently on sale. It can be picked up for a modest £49.99 during the event. Ring has made many improvements to the recent doorbell, including a better camera, better battery life, and easier installation, making it one of the best-value devices on this list. However, beware: other buyers have complained that Ring does lock features behind a monthly paywall, including cloud storage and other features that can't be used via the Ring app. Very annoying. But if shoppers want a great value video doorbell, they won't go wrong with this doorbell. It can be bought here for £49.99. Arlo HD Doorbell Camera Wireless Arlo has been on the rise when it comes to video doorbells in recent years. This video doorbell acts just as much as a security camera as it does a video doorbell - perfect for Scots who want to feel secure while they're away. This £69.99 video doorbell comes with a 1536p HD wireless doorbell camera and black-and-white night vision, so shoppers can see who is at their door at all times of the day. It also boasts a 6-month battery life, which rivals many on this list - perfect for people who hate charging their devices all the time. However, like Ring, this doorbell has subscription features. It locks advanced motion detection for people, animals, vehicles, or package triggers behind a paywall, which can be annoying, like the Ring doorbell. And this is reflected in some reviews from buyers. It can be picked up here for £69.99. Google Nest Battery Doorbell For those who value aesthetics from a reputable brand, Google's Nest Doorbell is currently on sale for £152.99 - and it's a pretty expensive purchase compared to others on this list. But what warrants the price? Well, for this price Google has managed to fit in a powerhouse of a video doorbell with great battery life. The camera is crisp, and somehow, Google has managed to fit it all inside a very sleek package. There are subscription features that are locked unless shoppers pay—but not as egregious as other brands. It's also a super-easy installation. But the Google Nest Doorbell is starting to show its age compared to others when it comes to battery life and other features like package and person detection. For those who value the Google brand and want a sleek, solid doorbell that fits with their Google ecosystem, this doorbell might be the one. But for those who aren't in the Google ecosystem, we would recommend staying away and perhaps buying a cheaper device. Tapo 2K Battery Video Doorbell Amazon has dropped a limited-time deal on the Tapo TD21 Battery Video Doorbell that, crucially, doesn't require buyers to splash extra money on a subscription. This doorbell usually retails for £69.99, but homeowners can now grab it for only £42.49, a 36 per cent saving. It comes with a 2K camera as well as six months of battery life - and for the price, it is well worth considering as it is very competitively priced. It also works with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant to free up hands and supports Echo Show or Fire TV with the help of a voice assistant And it even comes with a chime!

The five Amazon Prime Day gadget deals I'd actually buy – and ‘lowest ever' price on Ring doorbell bundle is my top pick

AMAZON Prime Day is here and the online shop is flooded with seemingly endless deals – with plenty of cut-price gadgets on offer. If you're struggling to know where to start, don't worry. I'm The Sun's tech editor, Advertisement 10 The Ring battery doorbell doesn't need any wires to work Credit: Amazon / Ring 10 This bundle includes a Chime so you can hear the doorbell chime – rather than relying on just phone notifications Credit: Amazon / Ring There's something for everyone, and they're all priced at well under £100. The only catch: you'll need an active Amazon Prime membership to snap up these Prime Day deals. On top of that, Prime Day is a limited-time event and (confusingly, despite the name) lasts from Tuesday, July 8 until Friday, July 11. Here are my top picks... Advertisement Read more on Amazon Tech Deal #1 – Ring Battery Video Doorbell + Chime Now £59.99 (was £129.98) Top of my list is a frankly unmissable deal on the Ring Battery Video Doorbell. This is a rechargeable doorbell (that means no wires) that lets you see who's at the door via a smartphone app, answer it from anywhere in the world, and keep an eye on your home. It even has night colour night vision, and an "out of office" feature called Quick Replies. Advertisement Most read in Phones & Gadgets But it's also bundled with a Chime, which plugs into the mains and serves as a speaker for your doorbell chime. Otherwise you're just relying on smartphone notifications. This is a top deal that saves you just shy of £70. Amazon's Ring Battery Video Doorbell Plus watches your front door & doesn't need any wires And it's the lowest price ever for the bundle too, according to Amazon product tracker CamelCamelCamel. I recently tested the slightly more expensive Plus version of this gadget (with marginally higher resolution and a quick-release battery) and loved it – check out my Advertisement Tech Deal #2 – Apple AirTag 4-pack 10 Apple AirTags can be attached to almost anything, letting you track them on a virtual map Credit: Amazon / Apple Now £84 (was £119) Next up is this four-pack bundle of Apple AirTags. The AirTags are little tracker tags that you can stick in a backpack or purse, attach to keys or a bike, or tie on to your luggage. Advertisement You can then monitor their location through the Find My app on your iPhone. 10 This bundle gets you four Apple AirTags Credit: Amazon / Apple They also let you 'ping' them to make a beeping noise if you can't physically find them. It's a great way to get peace of mind with your beloved gadgets. I put them on almost everything – in my bag, on my suitcases, and even in my car. Advertisement A single AirTag from Apple costs £35, so the full £119 price is already a saving on the £140 you'd pay for four individually. But at £84, it means you're paying just £21 per AirTag, which is a very good price. Tech Deal #3 – Anker MagGo Power Bank 10 The MagGo Power Bank is one of Anker's best wireless charging bricks Credit: Amazon / Anker Now £54.99 (was £89.99) Advertisement Charging our phones is something most of us do every single day. But you're not always by a plug socket – especially in summer when you'll be out and about. Last year I tested out the Anker MagGo Power Bank, and it's easily one of my favourite charging gadgets of all time. It's a wireless charging pack, which means you can slap your iPhone on top and it'll power up. Advertisement 10 It has a built-in screen to show you important charging stats Credit: Amazon / Anker The 10,000mAh capacity means it'll charge up an iPhone multiple times over – at least two or three. And it has a kickstand at the back so you can have your phone on display either vertically or horizontally. If you spin your iPhone into horizontal mode, it unlocks StandBy mode, which turns your mobile into a desk or bedside table clock too. Advertisement And there's a built-in screen that shows the pack's battery level, the time it'll take to recharge, and how much longer you'll be able to use the pack for. This is £35 off, which is nothing to sniff at. A must-buy for the power-hungry! Tech Deal #4 – Withings Body Smart Scale 10 I loved using the Withings Body Smart Scale for weight loss – but it also works great for other health goals too, like gaining muscle Credit: Amazon / Withings Now £69.95 (was £89.95) Advertisement Last year, I was able to lose about four stone with the help of three weight loss support gadgets. One of them was a Withings Body Smart Scale, and it's hard to imagine living without it. It works like a regular scale, tracking your weight in the unit of your choice. But it also uploads it to the Withings app (and then syncs that into Apple Health too), so you can log your weight without lifting a finger. Advertisement 10 You can even monitor your heart rate and visceral fat (the belly fat around your organs that you can't see) Credit: Amazon / Withings Also, it can tell who's standing on the scale, so my wife can hop on too and our measurements won't get confused. That's not all: the scale also tracks your body composition, detailing your exact body fat percentage. This is useful, as it's a more specific way of measuring how much of you is actually fat – something your generic weight can't really show. Advertisement This gadget is normally £89.95, but it's now a steal at £69.95. Tech Deal #5 – Backbone One Mobile Gaming Controller 10 Backbone's controller surrounds your iPhone, turning it into a powerful portable console Credit: Amazon / Backbone Now £59.99 (was £99.99) Consoles are expensive – and in the case of the new Advertisement The good news is that you already have a posh console: it's the smartphone in your pocket. And you can get that console feeling with the Backbone One Mobile Gaming controller. This attaches to your iPhone and adds a controller element, effectively making it function as a handheld console. 10 You can play console-grade games with your phone while on the move Credit: Amazon / Backbone Advertisement The one I've linked here is the Lightning port model, so check that your iPhone has that port. But if your iPhone is newer and has a USB-C port, you can bag that too. It's a tenner more. Just switch it with the button on that Amazon page. You can play Call of Duty, Roblox, Fortnite and more with this controller. And if you sign up to a cloud gaming service – like Xbox Cloud Gaming – you can play loads of proper console games too.
