Rivals Five-Star: Breaking down the wide receivers

INDIANAPOLIS – The stars came out for the 2025 Rivals Five-Star event at the Indianapolis Colts' facility this week. Here we break down the top receivers from the event. MORE FROM INDY: Highlights and analysis | Teams that should be pleased | Positional MVPs | Gorney Awards | Biggest surprises | Flip watch | QB analysis | RB analysis RECRUITING INTEL: Mid-South | Florida | West | Southeast | Midwest RIVALS FIVE-STAR MEDIA DAY: All the news, notes and interviews | The All-Lobby Team | How solid are the commitments? | Roster RIVALS FIVE-STAR INTERVIEWS: Jaden O'Neal | Trae Taylor | Chase Calicut | Samu Moala | Jake Kreul | Felix Ojo | Peyton Houston | CJ Sadler | Richard Wesley | JaReylan McCoy | Carter Scruggs | Nolan Wilson | Carson Sneed | Derrek Cooper | Devin Carter | Jayden Wade | Joel Wyatt | Kaden Henderson | Nick Abrams The five-star Ohio State commit gets better every time I see him. His impressive track speed is what everyone knows about. But his ability to run crisp routes, create separation and catch the ball continue to get better. That's a scary proposition for opposing defenses. Many programs including Tennessee are trying to move him off his commitment to Ohio State. It'll be tough to do so as long as coach Brian Hartline is on staff. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH OHIO STATE FANS AT Gregory is a consistent performer at every event. He just makes plays. The Texas A&M commitment is a crafty route runner that gets just enough separation on his routes. But his calling card is his hands. Gregory rarely drops a pass and we didn't see it happen again during the Rivals Five-Star. Coach Mike Elko will have a very dependable weapon in his offense. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH TEXAS A&M FANS AT The IMG Academy star was one of the youngest players in attendance but made a huge impact. He won the fastest man competition, beating everyone in the finals. McFarland was consistently open during the one-on-ones and 7-on-7 portion of camp. He's a name the country will know about in short order. Sadler was one of the bigger surprises of camp. We knew he was good but no one saw it coming that he'd be able to get open with such ease against some of the best defensive backs in the country. The Michigan native is electric in the slot and took home MVP honors. North Carolina has the momentum in this recruitment. But Colorado, Maryland, Michigan and Michigan State are still in the hunt for him.

Looking ahead to the QB dominoes that still need to fall in the 2026 class

There was a shocking quarterback flip on Thursday when four-star Peyton Falzone flipped from Penn State to Auburn. With that consideration, Rivals national recruiting director Adam Gorney looks at the remaining quarterback dominoes and what could be ahead. MORE: Money matters but relationships still crucial for quarterbacks CLASS OF 2026 RANKINGS: Rivals250 | Team | Position | State CLASS OF 2027 RANKINGS: Rivals250 | Team | Position | State At the Elite 11, Duckworth talked highly about both Auburn and South Carolina but there was definitely a feeling that the Gamecocks have emerged as perhaps the program to beat again in his recruitment. The four-star quarterback from Jackson, Ala., had already been committed to the Gamecocks and never burned any bridges there as he loves coach Shane Beamer and has grown a relationship with new OC Mike Shula. He's also sat down with LaNorris Sellers to break down how he'd be used in the offense with strengths and weaknesses. Falzone's flip to Auburn could have only solidified even more Duckworth's lean to South Carolina. At the Rivals Five-Star, Cherry was asked about other schools coming after him and he mentioned Auburn and LSU as two to watch. There was also a sense that the four-star quarterback from Chattanooga (Tenn.) Baylor School would be open to hearing from more SEC programs. With Falzone flipping to the Tigers, Auburn might have made its move. But LSU missed on four-star quarterback Bowe Bentley (who chose Oklahoma) and so the Tigers could make it interesting if they made a push on Cherry, soon. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH LOUISVILLE FANS AT Fahey has been intentionally deliberate throughout his recruitment and now he can see exactly where things stand with quarterbacks around the country. Stanford and Indiana had been his top two with the Hoosiers having a slight lead but they just flipped three-star Cash Herrera from Iowa. Fahey visited Ohio State over the weekend and the Buckeyes offered so that could only be a matter of timing at this point. Stanford is still very much involved but playing in the Big Ten seems like a bigger draw, plus Ohio State has been a dream school. There seemed to be some dismissal of Ponatoski's recent visit to Kentucky – like he wasn't seriously considering the Wildcats – but that couldn't be further from the truth. In fact, it might even be more true after two of his other favorites received commitments in Jett Thomalla to Alabama and Bryson Beaver to Oregon. The four-star quarterback from Cincinnati (Ohio) Moeller is also serious weighing his MLB Draft stock so while his intention is to play college football, there is a chance that Ponatoski heads right to play pro baseball so coaches have to factor that into their calculus. The four-star quarterback from Downey, Calif., is committing on Friday and is not tipping his hand whether it's Arizona or UCLA. The Wildcats have been involved for much longer. He sees an early opportunity there and he loves the coaching staff, especially position coach Seth Doege. There are also some rumors that those close to him really like Arizona as well. But UCLA was a dream school growing up. It's right down the road from Downey. And getting an opportunity to play in the Big Ten could be a massive draw. This is a close one heading down the stretch to decision time.

Longhorns commit Richard Wesley showcases his potential at Five-Star Event

Richard Wesley make the most of Rivals Five-Star Event Earlier this week, some of the top high school players in the country gathered at the Indianapolis Colts practice facility for the Rivals Five-Star event. That included Richard Wesley, who recently committed to the Texas Longhorns. In front of some of the nation's best talent, Wesley showed why he is a special player. The event, which took place from June 23 to 24, provided a platform for players to showcase their skills. It also included one day dedicated to media and the other to on-field competition. Once the event wrapped up, On3 ranked the top 10 performers, and Wesley made the list. His play stood out to On3 national scout Cody Bellaire who left a glowing review about Wesley's play. 'His ability to win with speed and power was on full display during the competition periods,' he wrote. 'The new Texas commit's hand usage was phenomenal. Wesley was rarely beaten at the point of attack, quickly gaining leverage. He forklifted Tennessee offensive tackle commit Gabe Osenda into the quarterback dummy, despite being outweighed by nearly 100 pounds. Wesley did an excellent job utilizing speed to power throughout the session, walking several offensive tackles into the backfield. The physical and technical tools were on display at Rivals Five-Star.' Before committing to Texas, Wesley was ranked as the second-best edge in the country by 247Sports. He also drew interest from Oregon, Arizona State, California, and Colorado State. Now, he will be counted on to be a key piece for the Longhorn's defense. Over the last few years, Texas has excelled at getting the best out of its edge rushers. While excitement is growing daily for Wesley's collegiate debut, he still has some business to attend to. That includes winning a high school state championship in his final season of high school career before hopefully helping the Longhorns bring a national championship to Austin.

Rivals Five-Star: Breaking down the running backs

Nicole Auerbach and Joshua Perry discuss the media deal for the new Pac-12, breaking down what's next for the conference and how it can carve out a spot within the modern landscape of college football. FIVE-STAR: @JohnGarcia_Jr and @samspiegs recap who won MVP, who impressed and MORE👀🏆 — Rivals (@Rivals) June 24, 2025 INDIANAPOLIS – The stars came out for the 2025 Rivals Five-Star event at the Indianapolis Colts' facility this week. Here we break down the top running backs from the event. MORE FROM INDY: Highlights and analysis | Teams that should be pleased | Gorney Awards | Biggest surprises | Flip watch | QB analysis RECRUITING INTEL: Mid-South | Florida | West | Southeast | Midwest RIVALS FIVE-STAR MEDIA DAY: All the news, notes and interviews | The All-Lobby Team | How solid are the commitments? | Roster RIVALS FIVE-STAR INTERVIEWS: Jaden O'Neal | Trae Taylor | Chase Calicut | Samu Moala | Jake Kreul | Felix Ojo | Peyton Houston | CJ Sadler | Richard Wesley | JaReylan McCoy | Carter Scruggs | Nolan Wilson | Carson Sneed | Derrek Cooper | Devin Carter | Jayden Wade | Joel Wyatt | Kaden Henderson | Nick Abrams Cooper came away with positional MVP honors in Indianapolis. The five-star shined in the 1-on-1 portion of Tuesday's camp, then took it to a different level as the most productive pass-catcher out of the backfield in 7-on-7 play. Miami is working toward inking the No. 1 class in the country and intends to keep Cooper in South Florida. Georgia and Ohio State are working feverishly to buck the Canes' momentum on the recruiting trail. Osborne will be playing a lot of football inside the state of Indiana over the next few years. The Texas-based blue-chipper pledged to Notre Dame last month and showcased his three-down skill-set this week at the Rivals Five-Star. Osborne was fantastic as a pass-catcher, an area of his game less utilized on Friday nights. The Irish verbal is a three-down back that can bash between the tackles and be a workhorse on early downs and also contribute in the passing game. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH NOTRE DAME FANS AT Cowley stood out as one of the backs with the best top-end speed in Indianapolis. The 2027 four-star out of Alabama was smooth in and out of breaks, had soft hands and fantastic wiggle and acceleration with the ball in his hands between various positional drills, 1-on-1 competition and in the 7-on-7 setting. Auburn is trending up with the in-state blue-chipper, who returned to The Plains earlier this month. Hugh Freeze has been superb keeping top-end talent such as Cowley in-state since arriving at Auburn and has a strong chance to repeat in this one, too. Robinson is another blue-chip running back in the 2027 class. The bruiser from Mississippi is a force in the running game – able to eat up chunk yardage and run downhill at a high clip. During the week in Indy, Robinson also showcased another aspect of his game – his pass-catching skills and ability to separate in coverage. We love the three-down skill-set for Robinson and so does Tennessee. The Vols are setting the pace in the 2027 four-star back's recruitment ahead of Oklahoma State and Mississippi State.

Rivals Five-Star: Five committed prospects on flip watch

Shane Beamer chats with Nicole Auerbach about his father — College Football Hall of Famer, Frank Beamer — breaking down the impact the legendary coach has had on the South Carolina football program. FIVE-STAR: @JohnGarcia_Jr and @samspiegs recap who won MVP, who impressed and MORE👀🏆 — Rivals (@Rivals) June 24, 2025 INDIANAPOLIS - The Rivals Five-Star has wrapped up but after talking to numerous players and getting a sense on a lot of recruitments, here are five players who could be on flip watch as June wraps up: MORE FROM INDY: Highlights and analysis | Teams that should be pleased | Gorney Awards | Biggest surprises RECRUITING INTEL: Mid-South | Florida | West | Southeast | Midwest RIVALS FIVE-STAR MEDIA DAY: All the news, notes and interviews | The All-Lobby Team | How solid are the commitments? | Roster RIVALS FIVE-STAR INTERVIEWS: Jaden O'Neal | Trae Taylor | Chase Calicut | Samu Moala | Jake Kreul | Felix Ojo | Peyton Houston | CJ Sadler | Richard Wesley | JaReylan McCoy | Carter Scruggs | Nolan Wilson | Carson Sneed | Derrek Cooper | Devin Carter | Jayden Wade | Joel Wyatt | Kaden Henderson | Nick Abrams It would be a massive surprise if Brown backs off his Ohio State pledge for so many reasons. The 2027 five-star receiver is from Huber Heights (Ohio) Wayne. He loves position coach Brian Hartline. Brown loves how the Buckeyes have developed so many receivers and have such a great history at the position. But Tennessee is sending mail to Brown every day and the coaching staff is working hard to not only stay involved in his recruitment but to flip him at some point as well. Others will make a move because Brown is so talented but if Hartline stays in Columbus then Brown probably stays committed. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH OHIO STATE FANS AT As programs work to finalize their quarterback situation, there are a lot of moving parts and Cherry is being contacted by some big guns. The four-star quarterback from Chattanooga (Tenn.) Baylor School has been committed to Louisville since January but when LSU missed on Bowe Bentley, the Tigers reached out and gauged interest with Cherry. Auburn has also been in the mix as the Tigers figure out the situation with Landon Duckworth (who has Auburn and South Carolina as his two favorites) so Cherry could have some options moving forward and the word is he's listening. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH LOUISVILLE FANS AT The four-star cornerback from Jacksonville (Fla.) Mandarin has been committed to Michigan since last July but Jennings has been taking visits and seeing what else is out there especially through June. The word coming out of Rivals Five-Star is that Miami would be the biggest threat to flip Jennings if he's looking to stay closer to home. Even through all his visits, Jennings hasn't backed off his pledge yet and while Florida, Georgia and others could be in the mix, the Hurricanes would be the one to watch. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH MICHIGAN FANS AT It's no secret that while Sneed has stayed committed to Tennessee, the four-star tight end from Nashville (Tenn.) Donelson Christian Academy has heavily considered other programs. Ole Miss and North Carolina will be two to monitor but the biggest threat to the Volunteers would be Florida. Sneed loved his visit to Gainesville and the plan coach Billy Napier laid out for the four-star tight end as there's some concern that Tennessee doesn't throw to its tight ends enough. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH TENNESSEE FANS AT Tofi committed to Cal in early June and it was a big win for the Golden Bears since Oregon was the biggest threat throughout his recruitment. There are reasons to believe the four-star offensive tackle from San Francisco (Calif.) Riordan sticks with Cal as well since he loves the Polynesian culture on the coaching staff and his brother plays in Berkeley, too. But only a couple weeks after his pledge to Cal, Tofi took a visit to Oregon as the Ducks have not backed down. He also showed up to Rivals Five-Star wearing an Oregon t-shirt and said over the next few weeks he plans to make a final decision in his recruitment so the Ducks are clearly a threat.
