Liverpool confirm ANOTHER genius new arrival
By Bence Bocsak © IMAGO - Arne Slot Richard Hughes Liverpool Behind the scenes in the backroom staff there are already some really exciting arrivals as well. Giovanni van Bronckhorst is set to be appointed as Arne Slot's assistant in what is a major coup. Van Bronckhorst won the Champions League as a player and he comes with a really impressive resume as a manager. Advertisement Before Slot, he was the last manager to win the Eredivisie league title with Feyenoord and he also led Rangers to the Europa League final. The fact that Liverpool managed to get a manager of this calibre to be an assistant speaks volumes of what the Reds are building behind the scenes. And after Van Bronckhorst they have pulled off another coup. Liverpool's official website confirmed the appointment of Rob Page as the club's U21 manager. He will replace the departing Barry Lewtas and this is another genius appointment. In Page, Liverpool are bringing someone to the U21 team with a lot of experience as a manager at senior level. In fact, for Wales he became the first manager in 64 years to help the country qualify to the World Cup. Advertisement Page of course had his critics at times, too. Towards the end of his time, he didn't quite have the right squad and was competing in the UEFA Nations League A division, where he had to face a lot better teams on the international stage. That will be different with Liverpool. His track record working with Wales' young players is impressive. The likes of Neco Williams, Brennan Johnson and many more were integrated into Wales' senior team under Page.

Liverpool name former Wales boss as new U21s manager
Liverpool name former Wales boss as new U21s manager Former Wales manager Rob Page has taken the reins of Liverpool's Under-21 side. Page's most recent role was at the helm of the Welsh senior team, where he spent three and a half years from 2020. He initially joined as Ryan Giggs' assistant, stepped in as interim boss, and was eventually handed the job full-time. Advertisement During his time in charge, the 50-year-old guided Wales to their first World Cup appearance since 1958 and also reached the knockout stages of Euro 2020. However, his spell came to an end in June 2024 after Wales failed to qualify for the Euros that summer. His departure from the senior role followed a string of poor results, including a goalless draw against Gibraltar and a heavy 4-0 defeat to Slovakia. Craig Bellamy has since taken over the national team duties. A former international captain with 41 caps to his name, Page had previously managed the Wales Under-21s and earned praise for his work with the youth side before stepping up. At Liverpool, Page takes over from Barry Lewtas, who left the U21 post earlier this month.

Liverpool announce ex-Wales boss will join coaching staff in shock move
Liverpool have landed ex-Wales boss Rob Page as their new U21s boss after the Premier League club underwent a shake-up of their coaching staff within their youth set-up Liverpool have confirmed that Rob Page has moved to Anfield and will become the new manager of their U21s after his spell as Wales boss came to an end. He led his national side for four years, taking them to their first World Cup for more than 60 years. Bosses at Anfield were keen to overhaul their youth set-up this summer after long-serving U21s boss Barry Lewtas stepped down. Their U18s head coach, Marc Bridge-Wilkinson, also chose to leave the club. Page, who was succeeded at Wales boss by ex- Liverpool star Craig Bellamy, was identified as the perfect individual to work with the young talent on the club's books. He has done so previously having been the Wales U21 manager. That's alongside spells at Port Vale and Northampton. The ex-Wales boss guided his country to Euro 2020 and then the World Cup two years later. Only a penalty shootout denied them a spot at Euro 2024 and a third successive major tournament. Throughout his time in charge he continued to back youth and two men who are at Liverpool - Owen Beck and Lewis Koumas - were both given opportunities and have become Welsh internationals. In Premier League 2 last season Liverpool's U21s finished 16th out of 26 teams, winning seven of their 20 matches with Page now tasked with improving that showing. The club's Academy director Alex Inglethorpe said: "Rob brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience to a key role as young players look to bridge that gap from Academy prospect to first-team footballer. His recent achievements in guiding Wales to the last 16 at Euro 2020 before qualifying for the 2022 World Cup speak for themselves but perhaps less heralded is the work that took place during his time in charge of the national team, which saw numerous pathway players make it into the senior squad. "This is something we have seen first-hand at Liverpool with several of our Academy players making significant progress on the international stage under Rob's guidance. This level of experience in transitioning young footballers towards the professional game and on to the highest levels of domestic and international football will be a significant resource for all at the Academy, especially the players. "Myself and all the staff are greatly looking forward to working with Rob as we endeavour to continue producing players capable of playing at the highest level and in the most demanding of arenas."
