Scotland to sizzle in ‘record-breaking heatwave' as summer scorcher sees temperatures hit 31C
The Met Office has issued a warning to those venturing out in the sun RED HOT Scotland to sizzle in 'record-breaking heatwave' as summer scorcher sees temperatures hit 31C Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) SCOTS are set to bask in scorching sunshine this weekend as temperatures soar above 30C. The mercury is predicted to rise to record-breaking levels as 150,000 revellers descend on Glasgow Green for the three-day TRNSMT festival. They should peak at up to 31C on Saturday before coming down to 28C or 29C on Sunday. There is also the possibility that Scotland could record its hottest day of the year, currently held by the 29.1C seen at Grangemouth Refinery in Falkirk on June 20. From tomorrow, the three-day TRNSMT extravaganza begins, featuring big names like 50 Cent, Snow Patrol and Biffy Clyro. Despite not being as warm as the heatwave at the beginning of July, the hot spell is forecast to last longer and cover a broader area, the Met Office said. Meteorologist Liam Eslick said: "It is going to be a hot one with little cloud around. "UV levels are going to be pretty high so people should wear plenty of sun cream and stay hydrated as there is not going to be too much of a breeze to cool down. "Pollen levels are also going to be high, so any hayfever sufferers should take medication to reduce that risk." Mr Eslick added that the weekend would be very sunny and dry, with the wildfire risk classed as moderate. He said: "We've not had a lot of rain over the last few days and weeks. Make sure barbecues are extinguished thoroughly as the ground will be pretty dry." Six items every UK driver should remove from cars this weekend To be considered a heatwave, the temperature needs to reach or surpass 28C in the south and 25C in the north for at least three consecutive days. An extreme wildfire warning is in place across Scotland from tomorrow until Monday, July 14. Th alert covers central and eastern areas and extends to all areas, except low-lying areas with green grass. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) has urged people who live within or who may enter rural environments to exercise caution. Group Commander Raymond King is a Wildfire Tactical Advisor at the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service. He said: "We are asking the public to exercise extreme caution and think twice before using anything involving a naked flame. "Many rural and remote communities are hugely impacted by wildfires, which can cause significant damage. "Livestock, farmland, wildlife, protected woodland, and sites of special scientific interest can all be devastated by these fires - as can the lives of people living and working in rural communities. "These fires can also have a hugely negative impact on the environment, and the release of greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere. "Human behaviour can significantly lower the chance of a wildfire starting, so it is crucial that people act safely and responsibly in rural environments and always follow the Scottish Outdoor Access Code."

Sex-mad TRNSMT revellers risk catching dangerous STIs like Gonorrhoea & Chlamydia with random festival hook-ups
Health bosses are urging frisky festival goers to wear condoms to avoid TRNSMT'ing anything other than good vibes SEX-MAD TRNSMT revellers are being warned of the increased risk of catching dangerous STIs with random festival hookups. Over 50,000 music fans are expected to descend upon Glasgow Green this weekend for TRNSMT 2025, and as many as a quarter of them could be getting giggy with it in more ways than one. And over half of the 500 18 to 40-year-olds surveyed said they'd be up for partaking in concert coitus. But health bosses are urging frisky festival goers to wear condoms to avoid TRNSMT'ing anything other than good vibes. Lloyds Pharmacy Online Doctor sexual health nurse Emma Ostridge, says: "Lots of people attending music festivals may end up having sex while they're there. For those attending, it's important to be smart and think proactively about protecting yourself and your sexual health." This weekend's TRNSMT is expected to see the mercury skyrocket to highs of 27C, but the event could also be a hotbed for sexually transmitted infections like Gonorrhoea and Chlamydia. Emma adds: "A lot of people at festivals may be having intercourse with people they have met there and may not be familiar with the other person's sexual history. When having sex with a new partner, it's always important to take precautions. "Drinking alcohol at events like music festivals can also impair decision making, leading people to make riskier choices than they might usually and could result in condomless sex with unfamiliar partners. "If you're worried about acquiring an STI while attending a festival, the best thing you can do is wear protection. If you're worried about STIs afterwards, you can order an STI testing kit online or contact your local sexual health practice if you begin to present symptoms." The survey also found that almost 60 per cent of respondents think UK music festivals should be doing more to promote safe sex amongst visitors. Meanwhile, two thirds said that they would like easier access to condoms on festival grounds and 71 per cent said they would support music festivals providing free condoms to visitors. TRNSMT reveller swings toilet seat around her head Emma continued: "Wearing a condom is a great way to protect you from unplanned pregnancy and reduce your risk of acquiring many common STIs, such as chlamydia, gonorrhoea, and syphilis. "While condoms can be a good preventative measure, there are some factors which might make them less effective."

Scotland on ‘HEATWAVE' alert as weather experts predict 30C scorcher to arrive in days
SOAK IT UP! Scotland on 'HEATWAVE' alert as weather experts predict 30C scorcher to arrive in days THE Met Office say sizzling Scotland will officially enter heatwave territory this weekend – outshining Canary Island hotspots like Tenerife and Gran Canaria. After weeks of jealously eyeing Med-style conditions in England and Wales, Scotland will finally bask in blue skies and searing heat from Friday to Monday. Advertisement 4 Scots enjoy the weather in a sun-soaked beer garden on Glasgow's Buchanan Street Credit: Alamy 4 Two people take shelter from the rain under an umbrella in Gran Canaria Credit: Getty 4 Weather forecasters are predicting a scorcher for TRNSMT music festival Credit: Roddy Scott Temperatures are forecast to hit 27C in Glasgow on Saturday, the midway point for the TRNSMT music festival at Glasgow Green. Tenerife, by comparison, faces a cloudy weekend with highs of just 22C and Sunday looks soggy in neighbouring Gran Canaria. There is also the possibility that Scotland could record its hottest day of the year, currently held by the 29.1C seen at Grangemouth Refinery in Falkirk on June 20. With families and friends desperate to cool off, the authorities are expected to issue graphic warnings about the dangers of entering water following a number of tragedies the last time it was hot. Advertisement Fifteen-year-old Alexander McNab died while paddleboarding at Loch Ore Meadows in Fife on June 28. Two days later, Alan Colquhoun, the founder of the Lodge on the Loch holiday complex on Loch Lomond died after it's thought the 83-year-old fell overboard during a family trip on the water. Looking ahead, the Met Office say temperatures are about to build day-on-day thanks to high pressure moving up from the Azores in the South Atlantic. On Wednesday, we'll start to see temperatures rise further, creeping up towards heatwave criteria as the week goes on. Advertisement Deputy Chief Meteorologist Dan Holley explained: 'High pressure from the Atlantic will gradually exert its influence over the UK this week. 'We'll see temperatures build day-on-day, with the potential for hot conditions to become quite widespread by the end of the week and into the weekend. Grumpy Wimbledon fans left with sticky fingers as record-breaking weather sees ice creams melt before getting to court 'On Wednesday, temperatures could reach up to 28C in parts of England, climbing to 30C on Thursday and 32C by Friday. "By this stage, heatwave criteria are likely to be met in parts of England and Wales, and in parts of Scotland over the weekend. Advertisement 'High temperatures are likely to persist into the weekend, especially away from coasts with onshore winds, reaching the low 30s in portions of England and Wales, and accompanied by rising humidity and warmer nights. 'This heatwave is likely to last longer than previous ones so far this summer, and affect a wider area, with the focus for some of the highest temperatures displaced across more central and western areas at times. In addition, pollen and UV levels will also be very high in some areas.' 4 Scotland is on 'heatwave' alert as experts predict a 30C scorcher to arrive in days Credit: Alamy There are signs that less hot, or fresher, conditions may arrive from the west into the start of next week, but exactly how quickly this transfers eastwards is uncertain. Advertisement From Friday, thousands are expected to descend on Glasgow for the three-day TRNSMT celebration, starring names like 50 Cent, Snow Patrol and Biffy Clyro. The BBC Weather Service is predicting day-long rays and highs of 27C for Glasgow Green on Saturday. Met Office forecaster Jonathan Vautrey says the settled conditions are a result of the 'Azores High' where warm air arrives here from the South Atlantic. He said:'It's turning drier in the south west because we have high pressure beginning to build its way in from the Azores. Advertisement 'While there is the possibility of fronts slipping into Scotland and Northern Ireland over the next few days, this high looks as if it will build in more widely across the UK, midweek onwards. 'That will lead to fewer showers, more sunny spells and also climbing temperatures.' Elsewhere, all Scots households are being warned to keep windows shut amid incoming hayfever fears. Pollen levels are expected to spike later in the week – something hay fever sufferers will want to prepare for.
