Roony Bardghji ecstatic after dream Barcelona transfer – ‘It's unbelievable to be here'

Roony Bardghji became the latest addition to FC Barcelona, arriving from FC Copenhagen earlier this week. The teenage winger is already training with the first team but is expected to be a part of Barça Atletic setup once the campaign starts. Advertisement Bardghji has arrived in a deal worth around €2.5 million, signing a four-year contract until 2029. The young winger spoke to the club's media after his contract signing, where he admitted he is living a dream. 'I don't have words to describe how I feel right now, I'm very, very happy, it's a great day for me and my family, for everyone around me. It's a dream I had, it's unbelievable to be here, it's a great thing,' he told the club's media. Bardghji becomes the fourth Swedish player to sign for Barcelona, following Patrik Andersson, Henrik Larsson, and Zlatan Ibrahimovic. He acknowledged the honour of following in their footsteps. Advertisement 'We've all had this since I was very young, so it's amazing to be here now. I mean, I'm not sure, but I think maybe 2 or 3 Swedish players have been here before, so maybe I'm the fourth one,' explained Bardghji. 'So, it's a big thing, of course, yeah, like I said, for me and maybe for Sweden as well,' he added. When asked to describe his playing style, the teenager said: 'I would say I am a player who likes to have the ball. I always like to have the ball, to ask for it. I'm a player who makes his teammates play better around him. 'I like to use my teammates and, yes, like I said, have the ball with me, dribble, dribble and shoot,' said the Sweden international. 'I would say I am a complete player,' he added. Advertisement Regarding his goals and ambitions, Bardghji said: 'Collectively, of course, you know, the season the team had last year was incredible, and hopefully we can repeat that this year and go all the way in all competitions. 'On an individual level, of course, to gradually join the team and get some minutes, of course, and just show who I am and hopefully contribute with goals and assists, and just do my best to help the team and the club achieve its goals,' he concluded.

Barcelona complete signing of 'Swedish Messi' Roony Bardghji as Copenhagen teenager, 19, signs long-term deal

Barcelona have completed the signing of young Copenhagen star Roony Bardghji for £1.75million (€2m). The 19-year-old, dubbed the 'Swedish Messi ', has joined the Spanish giants on a four-year deal. Copenhagen will receive a sell-on fee while there are also a number of performance-related add ons. The winger will take part in Hansi Flick's pre-season tour of Asia later this month, before a decision is made on whether he will stick with the first team, go out on loan, or join Barcelona's youth sides. After announcing his signing, Barcelona described the youngster as 'a great prospect for the future, while praising his 'skill, speed, and goalscoring ability'. Bardghji's contract with Copenhagen was set to expire in December, allowing Barcelona to complete a cut-price deal. Born in Kuwait to Syrian parents, Bardghji has Swedish nationality and has represented their Under-21 side on ten occasions. After moving to Sweden, he played for a number of youth sides, including in Malmo's academy. He later moved to Copenhagen's academy in 2020 and was handed his senior debut at a mere 16 years and six days in November 2021, becoming the club's youngest ever player. A week later he lashed in a 25-yard shot into the bottom corner against Aalborg, to become the youngest scorer in Danish top-flight history. Promoted to Copenhagen's first team in 2022, the winger scored 15 goals in 84 games, winning three Danish league titles and two Danish cups. Bardghji's stock rose further after he scored the winner against Manchester United in the Champions League, aged just 17. However, he has seen his progress hampered by a serious ACL injury, spending 10 months on the sidelines. The Swede returned in March this year, making six league appearances before the end of the season. Meanwhile, in November 2023, after Sweden coach Janne Andersson said that Roony had 'a lot to prove at the highest level to take the final step', he replied by saying: 'How much more do you have to do as a 17-year-old to get a place?' Chelsea, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Ajax had also previously sent scouts to Copenhagen to watch the youngster.

Barcelona sign Swedish teen Bardghji from Copenhagen, sell Torre to Mallorca

BARCELONA, July 15 — Barcelona signed right winger Roony Bardghji from FC Copenhagen and sold midfielder Pablo Torre to Mallorca, the La Liga champions said yesterday. The 19-year-old Sweden Under-21 international joined for around 2.5 million euros ($3 million) according to reports in Spanish media. '(Bardghji) has signed for the next four seasons, until June 30, 2029,' said Barca in a statement, without specifying the cost of the deal. Bardghji scored 15 goals in 84 games for Copenhagen after reaching the first team in the 2021/2022 season. He suffered a severe knee injury in May 2024, which kept him out of action for nearly a year, with the youngster making his return in March 2025. Bardghji becomes Barcelona's second signing of the summer after they brought in goalkeeper Joan Garcia from local rivals Espanyol. The Catalan giants also announced the sale of 22-year-old playmaker Torre to Mallorca for an undisclosed fee, estimated to be 5 million euros according to Spanish media, as well as a percentage of the profit on any future sale. 'Torre is a new Mallorca player for the next four seasons, until June 30, 2029,' said the island club in a statement. 'Torre arrives from Barcelona, where he moved in 2022 and with whom he won La Liga twice, two Spanish Super Cups and the Copa del Rey.' The midfielder played a total of 27 times for Barcelona's first team, scoring five goals. — AFP
