Barca sign Swedish teen Bardghji from Copenhagen

Barcelona have completed a deal for exciting Swedish teenager Roony Bardghji.
The 19-year-old Kuwait-born winger joins the Spanish champions from FC Copenhagen and has signed until June 2029.
Bardghji joined Copenhagen from Malmö in 2020 and went on to play 84 games and score 15 goals for the Danish club.
He rose to prominence in the 2023-24 season, scoring a dramatic late Champions League winner against Manchester United in a 4-3 victory.
Bardghji subsequently suffered a serious knee injury that left him on the sidelines for nearly a year.
Barcelona said on the club website: 'As a wide player, Bardghji is known for his one-on-one skills, his ability to dribble past opponents and his effectiveness in front of goal.
'His presence on the right wing can, therefore, make the difference and provide more dynamism.'

Henderson back in PL with Brentford
PA Media/dpa London Jordan Henderson says he is determined to prove he can still cut it in the Premier League after joining Brentford. The 35-year-old England midfielder has completed a free transfer to the Bees and signed a two-year contract after leaving Ajax. The former Liverpool title-winning captain left Anfield in 2023, making a controversial move to Saudi Arabia with Al-Ettifaq. 'After a couple of years away I still have that fire to come back and play in the Premier League again,' he told Brentford's social media. 'Obviously it's the best league in the world, with the best players. So it's a big challenge but one I'm keen on doing. 'When I was given the opportunity by Brentford and after speaking with the club it became an easy decision.' Henderson has been reunited with former Reds players Caoimhin Kelleher, Sepp van den Berg and Fabio Carvalho at the Gtech Stadium, while he also played against new Bees boss Keith Andrews early in his career. 'I think when I was at Sunderland I might have played against him a few times. He's another reason I wanted to come,' he added. 'Caoimhin isn't in yet but I've spoken to Sepp and Fab a bit, along with the rest of the lads. It's nice to have a few familiar faces, for sure. 'They're great lads that I got on really well with at Liverpool, so that's been nice for us to settle in.' Henderson will come up against boyhood club Sunderland at the end of August and will return to Liverpool in October. 'Both clubs mean a lot to me. I owe a lot to Sunderland and then Liverpool was a huge part of my life,' he said. 'But when I'm playing against them there's no friends, we know that in football.' Andrews moved for Henderson after losing Danish midfielder Christian Norgaard to Arsenal. 'When we became aware of Jordan's availability, it was a pretty simple decision,' Andrews told the Bees website. 'We did our due diligence around his recent games to see where he is. He's still phenomenally fit and he's still phenomenally motivated to achieve things in the game, having already achieved a lot. 'With the void of experienced players leaving the building - Christian Nørgaard, Mark Flekken and Ben Mee - it was important to replace that.'

World's ‘oldest' marathon runner Fauja Singh dies in road accident aged 114
PA Media/dpa London British marathon runner Fauja Singh has died in a road accident in Punjab, India, aged 114. The athlete - believed to be the oldest runner to complete a marathon - was hit by a car and suffered fatal injuries while trying to cross a road in his birth village Beas Pind, near Jalandhar in Punjab, on Monday, according to reports in India. His London-based running club and charity, Sikhs In The City, confirmed his death and said their upcoming events in Ilford, east London, will be a celebration of his life and achievements. Singh - who lived in Ilford from 1992 - made his name by beating a number of records for marathon times in multiple age brackets. The centenarian became an inspiration for countless athletes by running marathons past the age of 100. A profile on the Olympics website said Singh was born in Punjab, then under British rule, on April 1 1911 and was the youngest of four children in a farming family. He was said to have suffered from thin and weak legs, and was unable to walk until he was five years old. He moved to England and settled in east London with his son after the death of his wife Gian Kaur in Jalandhar. It was not until 2000, aged 89, that he took up running, quickly rising to fame by completing his maiden marathon in London in six hours and 54 minutes. This time knocked 58 minutes off the previous world's best in the 90-plus age bracket. Singh ran numerous marathons, completing the 2003 Toronto Waterfront Marathon in five hours and 40 minutes, his personal best. On October 16 2011, in Toronto, the runner is thought to have become the first centenarian to run a marathon. Guinness World Records described it as an 'inspirational achievement' but said it was unable to recognise the feat without the necessary proof of his date of birth. Singh did not have a birth certificate, as official birth records were not kept in India in 1911, although the date of birth on his passport was April 1 1911, and he received a personal letter from Queen Elizabeth II on his 100th birthday. He was a torchbearer for the London 2012 Olympics and retired at the age of 101. Harmander Singh, Fauja Singh's coach at Sikhs In The City, confirmed his death in a statement posted to the running club. 'Dearest runners. It is with great sadness that we can confirm our icon of humanity and powerhouse of positivity Fauja Singh has passed away in India. Aged 114 years old. 'He succumbed to injuries caused by a vehicle accident while crossing the road close to his home. 'His running club and charity Sikhs In The City will be devoting all of its events until the Fauja Singh Birthday Challenge on Sunday March 29 2026 to celebrate his life of success and achievements. 'We will be doubling the efforts to raise funds to building the Fauja Singh Clubhouse on the route in Ilford where he used to train. 'In lieu of flowers please donate to his Clubhouse Appeal so we can carry on his legacy to encourage the world to keep fit and stay positive.' Preet Kaur Gill MP said on X: 'Saddened to hear about the passing of Fauja Singh. 'I had the honour of meeting him. A truly inspiring man. His discipline, simple living, and deep humility left a lasting mark on me. 'A reminder that age is just a number, but attitude is everything. Rest in power, legend.'

Liverpool reject $78mn Bayern bid for Luis Diaz: Report
PA Media/DPA London Liverpool are adamant Luis Diaz is not for sale after rejecting a £59 million bid from Bayern Munich. The PA news agency understands the Bundesliga champions' offer of £67.5 million ($78.5 million) was immediately dismissed, in keeping with the club's stance which saw them rebut an approach from Barcelona earlier in the summer. Diaz is in the last two years of his contract and, while talks have not progressed over a new deal, privately Liverpool insist he remains an important player and interested clubs are being told that. There is also a long-standing interest from the Saudi Pro League in the 28-year-old Colombia international. Al Hilal's failed £100 million bid for Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes, who is two years older, is viewed by some as a benchmark valuation for an elite attacker in the domestic and global market, but regardless there remains no appetite to sell. Only a few weeks ago Diaz hinted at uncertainty over his future by claiming his representatives were openly discussing his options. 'We are currently in contact with Liverpool, because we are talking to clubs, and that's normal given the transfer market that's opening,' he said last month. 'We're trying to arrange what's best for us.'
