Is your boss as stupid as this fella?
In other words, we like laughing at eejits. Though, to be fair and balanced, the following tale might be the result of a slip of the tongue, rather than proof of full-blown eejitery, requiring medical attention. Debbie McCall once had a boss who had mislaid an important file (though he, of course, blamed one of his minions). This chap forced everyone in the office to spend the afternoon searching for the vanished document, though he warned that it wouldn't be an easy task. Or as he put it: 'It's going to be like finding hay in a needle-stack.' Talking balls, again Tennis fan Eddy Cavin is listing the clichés associated with Wimbledon. Here are a few more… There are always shots of the crowd at Henman Hill. (But does anyone even remember who this guy Hill was?) Photos of leading players with their husband / wife / partner, or someone else's husband / wife / partner must be captioned: 'Love Match.' Material witness We're discussing this week's Royal Garden Party at Holyrood Palace. Yesterday we mentioned that the ladies in attendance were dressed in Edwardian-style finery. However, one of our spies at the event informs us that 99 percent of the women were, indeed, dressed in the quaint fashions of yesteryear, though one lady stood out from the pack, for she wore a bright orange jumpsuit…. or perhaps it was a pyjama onesie. And no hat on head, white trainers on feet. 'Scandalous!' gasps our witness to this desecration of all that is holy. 'She couldn't have looked more out of place if she'd brought a skateboard.' Write off IN the days when good penmanship was coveted, a colleague of reader Martha Clarke glanced at something she had written. 'Your writing is impeccable,' said this chap. Martha couldn't help beaming with pride, until the colleague corrected himself. 'Sorry,' he said, 'I meant to say impenetrable.' Count on him A barista in a Glasgow café was overheard, by reader Sam Ross, announcing to a colleague: 'I'm good at maths. I can do 13 plus 1.' 'Though he never actually proved his genius by revealing the answer,' notes our sceptical correspondent. Gotcha! Hunting expert Colin Mackie notes: 'Capturing Bigfoot would be no small feat.'

Glasgow volunteers in children's hearings honoured by King
Mary Gordon, Neil Macleod, and Linda Davis were invited to the Royal Garden Party at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh on July 1 as guests of the King and Queen. Ms Gordon said: "I was extremely gratified when I learned of my nomination to the King's Garden Party. "As a volunteer, I do not expect any recognition or thanks, so it came as a huge surprise. Read more: Update after 999 crews including Coastguard helicopter spotted at incident "I am a part of the community because I want to be, and if the little I do helps just one child, I'm happy." Mr Macleod and Ms Davis serve as panel members in the Children's Hearings System, while Ms Gordon volunteers as a panel practice advisor, providing support to panel members. Thirty-eight current and former volunteers from the Children's Hearings System in Scotland were invited to the garden party. Children's hearings are legal meetings held when there are concerns about a child or young person's wellbeing or care. Each hearing involves three volunteer panel members who make decisions in the best interests of the child. More than 2,000 panel members volunteer across Scotland, taking part in over 20,000 hearings each year. Children's Hearings Scotland (CHS) is the public body responsible for recruiting, training and supporting these volunteers. Lynne Harrison, director of tribunal delivery at CHS, said: "I'm so pleased to see our volunteers celebrated and recognised today. "Children's hearings take place every day across Scotland, and our panel members make difficult and important decisions in the best interests of infants, children and young people. "In every part of Scotland we have strong communities of volunteers supporting each other to bring about positive outcomes for children and families, and it's been joyful for us to come together today and see that dedication honoured."

West Lothian dad wins Father's Day makeover after heartfelt nomination by son
George Ross, from Livingston, was nominated by his 13-year-old son Harrison who calls him 'super dad'. A West Lothian dad won a Father's Day makeover worth over £800, courtesy of The Centre, Livingston following a heart-felt nomination by his son. George Ross, from Livingston, was nominated by his 13-year-old son Harrison who calls him 'super dad'. Every year the shopping centre is inundated with nominations, always making it difficult for the management team to choose a winner. However, this year Harrison's story really stood out as he talked very highly about his dad's career in the Armed Forces for 22 years, the work he currently does supporting the Armed Forces, emergency services and veterans including their families who are suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder with the charity, Who Dares Cares. Harrison highlighted 'not only is he a fantastic dad, he's also a great role model'. He also said this special makeover would be the perfect way to thank him for taking him to football games in Aberdeen, which is his favourite team, and for spending lots of time with him hill walking. Both George and Harrison recently climbed Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, Snowdon and completed the West Highland Way for Who Dares Cares, raising over £1,000. George's wife Katherine and his son joined him on his makeover and pampering day which included a personal shopping experience with local stylist Leigh Maybury, a £150 Gift Card and treats from Hotel Chocolate from the shopping centre and lots of gifts from a selection of retailers. Suit Direct also gifted George with a £100 Gift Card to spend on their casual wear range – this was an easy shop for him as he immediately liked the 'shacket' and also picked up two smart t-shirts to alternate with it. With two very special events coming up, the Royal Garden Party on July 1 and a charity event in November, he decided to spend his Gift Card from the shopping centre on a stunning three-piece Antique Rogue suit, with the help of Leigh, getting a warm seal of approval from his son. Next up was a visit to the stores who treated him with various gifts, including Rituals who presented him with a Homme gift set and pampered him with a hand and arm massage, a Father's Day gift box from Lush, an M&S goodie bag which included a baseball cap and a bottle of '1 Million' Eau de Toilette by Rabanne from The Fragrance Shop. His prize also included a skin consultation, and lots of gifts from Boots including moisturiser and serum from their No7 range and Giorgio Armani Acqua di Gio aftershave, and lastly, which made his day, was a bag of goodies from his favourite store, MenKind. The special day culminated with a complimentary family lunch, gifted by Las Iguanas, where they enjoyed chicken fajitas and burgers. Tess Sundberg, Marketing Manager at The Centre, Livingston, said: 'It was lovely to welcome George and his family into The Centre, Livingston to receive his makeover and pampering prize, which he is very deserving of. 'With the help of Leigh and his family, we're delighted he managed to find a lovely outfit to wear to the Royal Garden Party. 'Thanks to all of the retailers who took part in the competition and helped make it a day to remember for him.' George added: 'The Father's Day makeover was a very special day that I'll remember forever. I'd like to thank my son for nominating me and all the staff from The Centre, Livingston who made it such a wonderful day.'
