DMK believes in allies, AIADMK in TN people: EPS

Coimbatore: AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami on Tuesday said the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) was very strong in Tamil Nadu and the alliance would form govt in the state by winning 210 seats in the 2026 assembly election. He praised the BJP govt at the Centre for allocating Rs63,000 crore to implement the metro rail project in Chennai when the AIADMK was governing the state. "We (AIADMK) could get many schemes with the help of the central govt in the future. Without the Centre's support, Tamil Nadu wouldn't have achieved all the growth it sees today." On the second day of political campaigning, which was held at Vadavalli, EPS said the previous AIADMK govt had implemented various schemes, especially Smart City and Pillur-III drinking water, in Coimbatore. "However, the DMK govt has not done anything for the district in the past four years. DMK leader Stalin always says their alliance is very strong. He believes in the alliance parties. But the AIADMK believes in the people of Tamil Nadu, because we have implemented various projects in the state. " EPS said the people of Coimbatore would vote for the NDA and help the alliance win all 10 seats in the district. "Stalin is daydreaming that his alliance will secure more than 200 seats. It won't happen in the 2026 assembly election. Stalin only thinks about his family members and has been working for the development of his family. How could he expect votes for his party?" He accused the DMK govt of diverting the money from the hundi at the temples maintained by the HR&CE department for education. "Devotees donate money for the development of temples. So, the govt should use it only for temple purposes. But the DMK govt has used it for constructing colleges. Such criminal acts should be prevented immediately." While EPS slammed the left parties, he lauded state CPM secretary P Shanmugam for raising his voice against the DMK. "Communist parties have been on a decline in the state. CPI state secretary R Mutharasan doesn't have the guts to question the DMK for its anti-people governance. CPM's Shanmugam is the only person from the left parties who questioned the DMK for not doing anything for the welfare of people of Tamil Nadu. I appreciate Shanmugam. But many communist leaders are working like slaves of the DMK." Earlier in the day, EPS went for a morning walk at Race Course and interacted with walkers. Later, he met with various associations of entrepreneurs.

Waiting over: Cyber crime victims to get faster help

Bhopal: Cyber-crime victims in Madhya Pradesh will no longer have to wait endlessly on the helpline number 1930, hoping a tele-caller picks up. In a new arrangement, victims reporting fraud will now receive a return call from regional outbound call centres within five minutes of dialling the helpline. These centres have been launched in five zones: Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, Gwalior, and Ujjain, with each zone covering surrounding districts. Under the previous inbound system, nearly 70% of calls were dropped, and only 30% of victims could reach a tele-caller. However, police claim that under the new system, implemented over the past few weeks, the success rate improved significantly, reaching 60% of victims, with expectations of further improvement. Senior cyber-crime officials maintained that outbound call centres have been started in all the five zonal offices of the MP Cyber-crime Headquarters. Now, after receiving events from Dial-100, immediate response is being provided to victims based on the above priority. The officials maintained that the outbound call centres operate round the clock. The callers are well trained to handle the calls. In MP, on average, around 700-800 calls are received on the 1930 national cyber-crime reporting helpline. They range from cyber frauds, some for enquiry, some regarding mystery transactions, and various cyber offences. "Dedicated call centres have been set up across different zones for cyber-crime complaints so that we can reach a larger number of victims and control the rising incidents of cyber-crime more effectively," said Pranay Nagvanshi, SP, MP State Cyber-crime Headquarters. He added that the prime focus of this initiative is to at least hear the complaints from the victims and provide help. It is a victim-centric approach. According to officials, the scale of cyber fraud in Bhopal has reached alarming proportions. As per the Bhopal Cyber-crime Branch data, between 2022 and 2024, city residents cumulatively lost over Rs104 crore to online scams. Of this, nearly Rs63 crore was defrauded in 2024 alone, making it the worst year in terms of financial loss due to cyber-crime. The surge in cyber-crime cases shows no signs of slowing down in the city as more than 440 complaints have already been lodged at the Bhopal Cyber-crime Branch between January and May this year. The financial toll of these cases stands at a staggering Rs9.3 crore siphoned off by fraudsters.

Punjab gets first Child Protection Policy

The Punjab cabinet has approved the province's first-ever comprehensive Child Protection Policy. This policy developed by the Child Protection and Welfare Bureau with technical support from UNICEF Pakistan was described as a new benchmark for child welfare, marking a transformative step toward ending violence, abuse, exploitation and neglect against children in the communities. The policy, according to the CPWB chairperson, serves as a comprehensive roadmap for child protection mechanisms across Punjab. It is the culmination of efforts that began over two years ago with the submission of the draft to the home department. Case management activities under the policy framework have been underway for over a year. Chairing the cabinet meeting that took up 101 agenda items, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif also announced a plan to reduce the power tariffs in order to provide maximum relief to the people. This is the second time that a province was fiddling with electricity tariffs that originally is a federal subject. Police pass the buck as Bhopal loses 100+cr to cyber-cons, gets 2% back

Bhopal: The surge in cyber-crime cases shows no signs of slowing down in the city as more than 440 complaints have already been lodged at the Bhopal Cyber-crime Branch between Jan and May this year. The financial toll of these cases stands at a staggering Rs 9.3 crore siphoned off by fraudsters, marking a grim continuation of the digital fraud trend that has plagued city residents over the past few years. According to officials, the scale of cyber fraud in Bhopal has reached alarming proportions. From 2022 to 2024, city residents have cumulatively lost over Rs 104 crore to online scams. Of this, nearly Rs63 crore was defrauded in 2024 alone, making it the worst year in terms of financial loss due to cyber-crime. Despite heightened awareness campaigns and law enforcement efforts, recovery of the defrauded amount remains a daunting challenge. Over the past three years, only about 2 percent of the total stolen funds have been successfully refunded to the victims, which points to an abysmal recovery. rate. In 2025, the Cyber-crime Branch managed to freeze Rs46.46 lakh in various fraudulent bank accounts. So far, a total of Rs 7.88 lakh has been refunded to victims this year. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Semua yang Perlu Anda Ketahui Tentang Limfoma Limfoma Pelajari Undo Banks Should Help Victims More: Cops A senior crime branch official said that recovery of money siphoned by cyber-criminals is a tough task. Even if the police freeze or hold the bank accounts of the cyber-criminals, there are no specific guidelines when the money will be refunded to the victim. If there are many victims, the money is refunded through the courts on first come first serve basis. He said that the banks do not help the victims in getting refunds of their own hard-earned money. The banks should create cyber-crime help desks in their offices to help the cyber-crime victims. The banks should take appropriate action to control the menace of mule bank accounts which act as backbone for the cyber-criminals to siphon money, he said. NCRP Plaint Number Now Considered FIR A Cyber-crime Branch cop said that in case of a cyber-crime, if the victim files complaint through the national cyber-crime helpline number -1930 or the portal , and the national cyber-crime reporting portal (NCRP) shows that the money is frozen or on-hold in the bank account used by the cyber-criminal, the person can use the NCRP complaint number as FIR and approach the court through an advocate requesting the court to order the bank to refund his or her stolen money. There is no need to wait for the police to register an FIR in such a case. Earlier the banks disallowed refunds until FIR was registered in the cyber-crime cases. Normal people do not understand the difference between police complaints and FIRs. They think that merely filing a written complaint with police and taking an acknowledgement is an FIR. He said that on the order of the union minister a pilot project has been started in Delhi in which it has been made mandatory to register FIR in all the cyber-crime cases involving fraud amount of Rs 10 lakh or more. Local police stations will register FIR in such matters. Cops Cite 'Glitches' As Obstacles To Refunds He said that there are many glitches in the refund process when multiple victims are involved and the money has been frozen or kept on hold in a single bank account by police of multiple states. In such cases it takes months to get a refund. The victims have to explain it before the courts that it is their money, or their money has not been further transferred or withdrawn. In most of the cyber-crime cases, the cyber-criminals use mule bank accounts to siphon money from victims across the states. In such cases it becomes difficult to explain before the courts that it is the victim's money. In such cases, a person should keep record of their unique transaction reference (UTR) which helps in tracking money trail. Even if money is transferred into multiple accounts, the victim's UTR can help in tracing it. The challenge is to get the money frozen in the cyber-criminal's bank account immediately after cyber-crime fraud. He added that in cases in which the victim has not shared his credentials but fallen victim to cyber-crime, it is the responsibility of banks to refund the siphoned amount. Like in ATM skimming cases reported in the city in the past, the money was refunded by the bank, he added. Staff Crunch: Helpline Centre's Capacity Lags A senior crime branch official said that there is a dedicated call centre set up to pick up calls received on the 1930 helpline in every state. Many times, the cyber-crime victims report that the line was busy or they could not connect due to which they could not file a complaint on time. The efficiency of the call centre needs improvement. He said that Bhopal police have set up cyber-crime desks at all police stations where the cyber-crimes can be reported. But the Cyber-crime branch too suffers from staff crunch. The force of around 70 cops posted in Cyber-crime branch are deployed in law-and-order duties on a regular basis. Special Campaign Against Mule Bank Accounts & Pre-Activated SIM cards: Commissioner Speaking on challenges, police commissioner Harinarayanchari Mishra said that in cases in which police catch the cyber-criminals, they lure the victims to settle the matter out of court by offering them their defrauded money and compromise. Bhopal Police are taking proactive steps to curb cyber-crimes, he said. A campaign is being run against those involved in selling mule accounts and pre-activated SIM cards to cyber-cons.
