Devil Wears Prada fans ‘crashing out' over Anne Hathaway in first look at sequel

Andy Sachs is dusting off her Chanel boots as we speak – as Anne Hathaway has confirmed The Devil Wears Prada 2 is officially in production. The 2006 classic, based on Lauren Weisberger's best-selling novel, followed Andy rollercoaster journey into establishing herself as a fashion journalist at Runway Magazine. The 42-year-old has been active on her social media pages this week, all leading up to her first day on set. Hathaway first shared a TikTok on Monday, showing her brushing her teeth with the caption, 'heading to werk', followed by the hashtag 'DWP2'. The new video comes just weeks after Disney confirmed The Devil Wears Prada 2 is officially in development. Fans were quick to spot the first Easter egg – Andy's iconic 'cerulean sweater'. @annehathaway Heading to werk #dwp2 ♬ original sound – Anne Hathaway In the first film, personal assistant Andy is corrected by boss Miranda (Meryl Streep) after thinking her knit was merely turquoise. One fan, @jeancervan, was quick to recite Miranda's iconic quote, 'that lumpy blue sweater, for instance, because you're trying to tell the world that you take yourself too seriously to care about what you put on your back.' 'But what you don't know is that that sweater is not just blue, it's not turquoise, it's not lapis, it's actually cerulean.' DWP fans were ecstatic to see Hathaway getting ready to shoot the muchly anticipated sequel, with @linamoreno saying – 'Anne Hathaway just casually brushing her teeth before filming one of the most iconic movies to ever exist, I'm not freaking out over here or anything.' Later on in the day, the Princess Diaries star shared on-set snaps on her Instagram, giving her followers a sneak peek at her iconic character's refreshed wardrobe. Posing in a pinstripe black vest with co-ordinating trousers, Hathaway captioned the pic ' #dwp2.' The award-winning actress' Instagram followers went into a frenzy after hearing the news they had waited years for. 'CRASHING OUTTTTT' said @Jennaaaliyah, 'EVERYBODY STAY CALLLMMMMMM,' @carmenvalentina added. Another fan, @designsuperhero, said: 'I have never been more excited for a movie than I am now.' Hathaway's style has previously been heavily inspired by her infamous Devil Wears Prada character, with the actress only recently sporting a 'cerulean' blue Versace gown during the 2024 Screen Actors Guild Awards. The 'cerulean' dress was not the only legendary moment to happen at the SAG Awards last year, as Hathaway surprised the audience by reuniting with her co-stars. Streep had taken to the stage to present the award for best male actor in a comedy series, however, she opened with: 'I have forgotten two things: my glasses and the envelope,' to which her on-screen co-workers Emily Blunt and Hathaway made their way on to the stage to present Streep's missing items – as the audience went wild at the tease of the reunion. It was announced last year that fans would be able to see Miranda Priestley on our screens again, but Hathaway has now confirmed the sequel of all sequels is well under way. Streep's character was inspired by Vogue's Anna Wintour, as DWP writer Weisberger worked as her personal assistant back in the day. Wintour recently stepped down from Vogue after 37 years at the publication. More Trending Charlie's Angels star Lucy Liu, 55, is among the rumoured new cast members in the reboot, along with BJ Novak, Justin Theroux and Bridgerton's Simone Ashley. The original movie was a box office hit, raking in $326 million (£241 million) – it also enabled Streep to receive a SAG Award nomination for best actress. Despite not having a release date yet, fans are able to re-live the dramatic comedy through the West End production of the classic. The Devil Wears Prada stage production arrived at the Dominion Theatre late last year and will run until January 2026. Got a story? Anne Hathaway's quirky wardrobe on Devil Wears Prada 2 set in NYC hints at major plot twist

Anne Hathaway sported a series of funky looks while filming Devil Wears Prada 2 in New York City on Monday. The actress, 42, is reprising her role as Andrea 'Andy' Sachs for the sequel of the hit 2006 movie – which is due out in May. And one particularly vibrant outfit may have even offered fans a clue about the plot of the sequel. The brunette beauty was pictured rocking a colorful mosaic-style maxi dress paired with chunky brown platform heels. But it was the garment bag attached to her luggage that seemed to hint at Andy's direction in the upcoming film. Though at the end of the original movie Andy quit working at Runway magazine, run by the ruthless Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep), in the new images she was seen with a dress bag that featured the name of the magazine, suggesting she may have returned. Anne Hathaway, 42, sported a series of funky looks while filming Devil Wears Prada 2 in New York City on Monday Her look was paired with a light bucket hat, two chunky necklaces and a pair of sunglasses. Her long brunette tresses cascaded from underneath the hat in loose waves. Aside from the garment bag, she was pictured walking with a blue suitcase and another blue mesh bag. Anne also shared a video of her in the dress to her Instagram. Later she was seen wearing a denim zip-up jumpsuit with colorful patches. The outfit was paired with black open-toe Chanel sandals and a black leather Valentino purse. Another outfit saw her in a white tank top with a black vest and a long denim skirt. The day prior the star was seen filming dressed in a pinstripe vest and pants. One particularly vibrant outfit may have even offered fans a clue about the plot of the sequel Anne rocked a colorful mosaic-style maxi dress paired with chunky brown platform heels The original film lifted the lid on the cut-throat fashion world, and two decades on that world will have changed, not least for Sachs's domineering boss, Runway editor-in-chief Miranda, played again by Meryl. The movie is expected to at least reveal her fate, showing her once-all-powerful character dealing with the decline of print industry. One question is whether she will have retained her icy demeanor. In one scene in the first film, Andy chuckles through an editorial fashion meeting led by Priestly, who then delivers a cutting assessment of her 'cerulean' sweater. 'You think this has nothing to do with you,' Priestly tells her. 'You go to your closet, and you select, I don't know, that lumpy blue sweater, for instance, because you're trying to tell the world that you take yourself too seriously to care about what you put on your back, but what you don't know is that that sweater is not just blue, it's not turquoise, it's not lapis, it's actually cerulean.' The scene became iconic and spawned the 'cerulean blue' theory of how all styles trickle down from the catwalk. Anne made a nod to the scene yesterday morning when she posted a clip online wearing a similar sweater with the caption 'Heading to werk' [sic] with the hashtag #dwp2. In the video, Anne is seen hurriedly getting ready, this time brushing her teeth with an electric toothbrush, a modern upgrade from Andy's manual one in the original film's memorable job interview scene. But it was her outfit that truly sent her followers spiralling. The brief clip quickly exploded online, with commenters quoting Miranda's epic takedown of Andy's supposed fashion indifference. One gushed: 'SHE'S WEARING THAT CERULEAN BLUE!!!!' Another confessed they felt 'like a kid waiting for Christmas for Devil Wears Prada SEQUEL!!!!' Hathaway's wink to the fashion-forward film comes just weeks after confirmation that The Devil Wears Prada 2 is officially in development, with Streep, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci all set to reprise their roles. Joining them in the sequel are new cast members Lucy Liu, Justin Theroux, B.J. Novak, and Pauline Chalamet. In the sequel, Blunt's character, Emily Charlton, has climbed the corporate ladder and now holds the power Miranda needs—setting the stage for a delicious clash of ambition, loyalty, and fashion politics. While plot details are still under wraps, sources suggest the film may draw inspiration from Lauren Weisberger's 2013 novel Revenge Wears Prada, which follows Andy's post-Runway life as she becomes a magazine editor, only to find Miranda crashing back into her world. The Devil Wears Prada 2 is slated to hit theaters on May 1, 2026, marking two decades since the original film strutted into pop culture history.

Anne Hathaway Goes Makeup-Free in Rare Selfie Teasing 'The Devil Wears Prada 2'

We love a cerulean blue Gist Anne Hathaway went makeup-free while wearing a cerulean blue sweater to tease The Devil Wears Prada 2 filming. The sweater is a callback to an iconic scene in the original movie, in which Hathaway's character, Andy Sachs, gets schooled by Meryl Streep's character, Miranda Priestly. Hathaway has referenced this scene before, including at the 2024 SAG your loins, because filming for The Devil Wears Prada 2 is officially underway. And, being the icon that she is, Anne Hathaway teased the film's production with a cheeky callback to the original movie. Hathaway took to TikTok to share a silly video in which she brushes her teeth while going make-up free. The 42-year-old actress shows off her glowy bare face, while her chestnut-colored locks are down and natural, tousled about with a side-part. The Princess Diaries actress is clad in a blue sweater, except it's not just blue, it's not turquoise, it's not lapis, it's actually cerulean. The lumpy blue sweater features a ribbed neckline and matching cuffs; Hathaway paired it with a simple gold chain necklace. "Heading to werk #dwp2," Hathaway captioned the flick, raising her eyebrows at the camera. Fans will remember the legendary cerulean blue sweater scene from the 2006 film, in which icy Runway magazine editor Miranda Priestly (played by Meryl Streep) schools Andy Sachs (played by Hathaway) after she laughs at two belts she claims "look exactly the same." This is not the first time Hathaway has referenced the memorable moment. At the 30th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards in February 2024, she, Streep, and Emily Blunt had a DWP reunion on stage. For the occasion, Hathaway stunned in a cerulean blue gown that featured a plunging neckline, off-the-shoulder design, wide built-in belt with a large buckle, small cutout, soaring leg slit, and floor-grazing skirt. It appears Hathaway went straight from her luxe marble bathroom to the movie set, as she was spotted filming in New York City this morning. She changed out of her sweater and into a trendy light-wash denim maxiskirt, crispy-white tank top, black vest, chunky black Gucci sandals, and black rectangle shades. Her shiny tresses were styled in voluminous, bouncy curls with a middle part, and she glammed up with sun-kissed makeup. Read the original article on InStyle Solve the daily Crossword

Anne Hathaway confirms Devil Wears Prada 2 is in production with a playful nod to original

It looks like The Devil Wears Prada is back —and so is Andy Sachs. On Monday, July 21, Anne Hathaway sent the internet into a frenzy with a brief but unmistakable TikTok video teasing her return to the world of Runway magazine. The 42-year-old actress, beloved for her role in the 2006 cult fashion film, shared a cheeky six-second clip that had fans screaming one thing: cerulean. In the video, Hathaway is seen hurriedly getting ready, this time brushing her teeth with an electric toothbrush, a modern upgrade from Andy's manual one in the original film's memorable job interview scene. But it was her outfit that truly sent her followers spiraling. The mother-of-two appeared to be wearing none other than a cerulean blue sweater—yes, the very color that Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep) famously dissected in a now-legendary monologue. 'Heading to werk #dwp2,' the Oscar winner captioned the video, wearing the same shade that became the centerpiece of one of film's most unforgettable monologues. In the original film, Andy finds herself chuckling during a Runway fashion meeting, only to be eviscerated by her boss. 'I see, you think this has nothing to do with you,' Priestly says. 'You go to your closet and you select, I don't know that lumpy blue sweater, for instance, because you're trying to tell the world that you take yourself too seriously to care about what you put on your back. She continues: 'But what you don't know is that that sweater is not just blue, it's not turquoise, it's not lapis, it's actually cerulean.' 'Then it trickled down into some tragic, casual corner where you fished it out of some clearance bin,' Priestly concludes. 'That blue represents millions of dollars and countless jobs, and it's sort of comical how you think you've made a choice that exempts you from the fashion industry.' The brief clip quickly exploded online, with commenters quoting Miranda's epic takedown of Andy's supposed fashion indifference. Just hours later, Hathaway was spotted on set of the The Devil Wears Prada 2 wearing a white T-shirt under a black vest and a long light-wash denim skirt. She completed the look with black sunglasses and wore her long hair in soft, loose waves. True to her character, the actress held onto a folded newspaper, seemingly indicating Andy has remained in the world of journalism. Her noticeably more chic ensemble also seemed to signal Andy has matured since her days as a fresh-faced personal assistant, almost 20 years ago. Who is Lauren Weisberger, author of Vogue-tinted novel The Devil Wears Prada?

Meet The Devil Wears Prada author Lauren Weisberger, former assistant to Anna Wintour at Vogue. Photo: @laurenweisberger/Instagram Books and literature The Devil Wears Prada is one of the most quotable films for movie-goers of a certain generation. Utter 'Florals? For spring?' in a millennial crowd and you're almost guaranteed to hear 'Groundbreaking!' in stereo. When Jocelyn (Rebecca Mader) holds up two almost identical turquoise belts before a fashion-show rehearsal and says, 'It's a tough call. They're so different,' Andy Sachs sniggers, drawing attention to herself. Miranda Priestly, boss of Runway Magazine, asks her coldly, 'Something funny?' Sachs, flustered, replies, 'No – it's just that both belts look the same to me. I'm still learning about this stuff,' so Priestly retorts condescendingly, 'It's sort of comical how you think you've made a choice that exempts you from the fashion industry, when you're wearing a sweater selected for you by the people in this room – from a pile of ' stuff ' . ' The film, which stars Oscar winner Meryl Streep as the titular Devil, otherwise known as Runway editor-in-chief Priestly; Anne Hathaway as her personal assistant, Andrea 'Andy' Sachs; and Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci , was adapted from the novel of the same name. It marked author Lauren Weisberger's debut and is semi-autobiographical: her first job after graduation (and travelling the world) was as personal assistant to Vogue magazine editor-in-chief Anna Wintour. But without that 2003 novel there would be no Devil mania – so who is the real-life Andy Sachs? Lauren Weisberger's arrivals and departures Lauren Weisberger and her dog Stella in May 2019. Photo: @laurenweisberger/Instagram Born in 1977 to a teacher mother and mortgage broker father in Scranton, Pennsylvania – made famous in the US version of comedy series The Office – Weisberger, 47 and her younger sister grew up in Allentown, which lent its name to the Billy Joel song. According to her biography, she graduated with an English literature degree from Cornell University, then backpacked through Europe, Israel, Egypt, Jordan, India , Nepal, Thailand and Hong Kong. Life in New York City Lauren Weisberger no longer has to backpack when she travels. Photo: @laurenweisberger/Instagram Returning to the US, she moved to Manhattan in 1999 and took a job as an assistant to Wintour, editor-in-chief of Vogue magazine. Though Weisberger aspired to be a writer, her days at Vogue were filled with tasks such as faxing, filing and getting coffee, reported the Daily Mail. She once described her time there as 'crazy, exciting and hard' in an interview on the Today show.
