Kota Sentosa dental unit gets new boiler, returns to full functionality

Yap (second right) is seen when inspecting the newly-installed boiler. KUCHING (June 25): The Kota Sentosa Health Clinic Dental Unit received a new wall-mounted water boiler yesterday. The dental team at the clinic had informed Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap that the previous water boiler had malfunctioned, causing significant inconvenience and delays, particularly in the making of dentures for patients. 'I was informed that patients requiring dentures were being affected due to the faulty equipment. 'As their elected representative, it is my duty to assist where and when I can to ensure essential healthcare services continue smoothly,' said Yap, who is Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP) Kota Sentosa chairman. The absence of a functioning boiler had forced staff to resort to boiling water using kettles – an inefficient and time-consuming workaround that affected the speed and hygiene of the denture fabrication process. The new boiler ensures that the dental unit can now return to full functionality, with a reliable and continuous supply of hot water critical for cleaning, wax processing, and other denture-making procedures. Separately today, Yap visited the site of the Seventh Mile Community Association Hall for the official handover of the Letter of Award to the contractor for resurfacing works at the hall's car park. The RM30,000 project, funded under Yap's Rural Transformation Project (RTP) allocation, will be implemented by Padawan Municipal Council (MPP). 'The resurfaced parking area will greatly improve accessibility and convenience for family members and visitors who gather to pay their final respects to departed loved ones,' said Yap. 'Many residents rely on the hall for such solemn occasions, particularly when their own homes are not suitable for religious or customary rites.' Dr Sim: Over 1,100 street lights installed in Batu Kawah since 2018

Sesco personnel installing street lights at a housing area in Batu Kawah. KUCHING (May 17): A total of 1,155 street lights have been installed across the Batu Kawah constituency with an expenditure exceeding RM1 million since 2018, said Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian. He said Sarawak Energy Berhad, through its operational and retail arm Syarikat Sesco Berhad (Sesco), had recently installed 68 new street lights across 15 locations in the constituency. 'The 15 locations are Jalan Segubang, Kampung Rantau Panjang, Jalan Moyan Segah, Jalan Moyan Indah, Kim Shak, Sin San Tu B, Jalan Desa Wira, Jalan RPR Batu Kawah, Jalan Batu Kawah, Kampung Stapok, Jalan Segedup, Jalan Highfield, Kampung Sinar Budi Lama, Jalan Sungai Tapang Ulu and Jalan Rantau Panjang. 'The project, funded under my Rural Transformation Project (RTP), involved a total investment of RM83,846,' said the Batu Kawah assemblyman in a statement today. Dr Sim, who is also Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government, said priority will be given to locations with existing utility poles, high-traffic zones and road bends deemed hazardous. For areas without electricity infrastructure but with pressing needs, alternative arrangements will be made, he said. 'Street lighting has long been a fundamental need voiced by Batu Kawah residents. Since being elected as their representative in 2016, I have consistently raised this issue with the Premier of Sarawak. 'I am grateful that the Premier understands the grassroots needs and has extended his full support, both in principle and funding, demonstrating the Sarawak government's genuine commitment to improving the quality of life for Sarawakians,' he said. Dr Sim encouraged residents to continue playing an active role as the 'eyes and ears' of the community by sharing constructive suggestions or reporting any local issues, adding that a safer and brighter Batu Kawah is a goal that can only be achieved by working together. Stampin Resettlement Scheme recreation park set for further upgrades

Yap (second left) in discussion with MBKS officers on the scope of works and bill of quantities for the park's latest RTP project. KUCHING (May 16): The recreation park at Lorong 2, Stampin Resettlement Scheme here is set to undergo further upgrading through an allocation of RM100,000. Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap said the upgrade, funded through his Rural Transformation Project (RTP) allocation, follows the successful completion of an RTP initiative nine months ago at the same park, involving the construction of a futsal court. 'The new allocation of RM100,000 will fund the construction of a new pickleball court, a spectator platform for the futsal court, and the installation of new exercise equipment for park visitors to enjoy,' he said yesterday. 'The addition of a pickleball court, improved viewing areas, and modern exercise equipment will encourage a healthier and more active lifestyle among residents.' Yap, who earlier visited the park with Kuching South City Council (MBKS) officers to oversee the implementation of the new project, said he has also requested the council to assist in repainting the surface of the futsal court. He explained that the court surface has experienced significant wear-and-tear due to over-usage since its completion. The assemblyman said the approval of RTP projects is part of his efforts to deliver systematic and people-centred development in Kota Sentosa, providing accessible, high-quality public amenities for the local community. He also expressed his gratitude to MBKS for their cooperation in facilitating the smooth implementation of the RTP projects, and reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that government allocations directly benefit the community. lead RTP stampin resettlement scheme upgrading Wilfred Yap

RM30 Gawai Dayak cash vouchers gesture of goodwill, says Yap

Yap said the cash vouchers were meant to be a gesture of goodwill. KUCHING (May 14): The distribution of RM30 Gawai cash vouchers was meant to be a gesture of goodwill, not a substitute for the broader development needs of the Dayak community, said Wilfred Yap. The Kota Sentosa assemblyman said the gesture was never intended to diminish the profound cultural significance of celebration. He was responding to former Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak (PBDS) president Bobby William's statement that the quantum was an 'insult to the pride and dignity of the Dayak community'. Yap said he deeply respected Gawai Dayak as a celebration of heritage, unity, and identity. The specifically for Dayak villages in his constituency, sought to provide modest assistance during the festive season, he said. He agreed with Bobby that the Dayak community deserve more than symbolic assistance and sustainable progress in education, infrastructure, healthcare, as well as economic opportunities. He pointed out that he had allocated significant amounts under his Rural Transformation Project and Minor Rural Project allocations to the six Dayak villages in his constituency. Yap added he remains committed to advocating long-term improvements in Kota Sentosa and welcomes constructive dialogue with all stakeholders to ensure that future initiatives align with the community's dignity and aspirations. Bobby had labelled the RM30 cash vouchers 'a glaring symbol of disrespect, insensitivity, and political patronage that undermines the cultural significance and dignity of the Dayak people'.
