Russia's Kostroma Delivers Spectacular Performance with Egyptian Participation

Pasant Elzaitony The Russian Embassy in Cairo hosted an enchanting celebration at the Egyptian Opera House to mark Russian National Day, featuring a captivating performance by the renowned Kostroma Folklore Troupe, alongside Egypt's Reda Folklore Troupe. The event, which drew a distinguished crowd of ministers, ambassadors, and public figures, showcased the deepening cultural ties between Russia and Egypt. Among the attendees were Egyptian officials including Counselor Mahmoud Fawzy, Minister of Parliamentary and Legal Affairs, and Sherif Fathy, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, as well as a host of ambassadors and diplomatic representatives. The evening featured a stunning display of Russian folklore, with the Reda Troupe joining in with a traditional Egyptian folk dance performance. In his speech, Russian Ambassador to Egypt Sergey Borisenko expressed Russia's pride in its growing relationship with Egypt, praising the Ministry of Culture and the Opera House for hosting the event. He reflected on Russia's historic role in defending global justice, particularly its efforts in defeating Nazism and colonialism. The Ambassador also highlighted Russia's resistance to NATO expansion and the impact of the 29,000 sanctions imposed by the West. Despite these challenges, Borisenko emphasized the resilience and spiritual strength of the Russian people, alongside significant progress in Russia's economy due to its industrial, agricultural, and cultural foundations. The evening's highlight was the Kostroma breathtaking performance, which has captivated audiences worldwide, with over 7 million viewers across 27 countries. Known for its spectacular shows, the troupe performs 80 shows a year, often attended by heads of state and dignitaries. The performance at the Opera House was no exception, offering a rich tapestry of Russian history and culture. The show chronicled Russia's evolution from the introduction of Christianity to the space age, and included historical segments on Tsarist Russia, the Caucasus, and Siberia. Using innovative artistic techniques, dazzling costumes, and cutting-edge visuals, the performance depicted the unity of Russia's multi-ethnic society and its deep-rooted cultural traditions. The two-part show seamlessly blended folk dances, theater, and a visual historical narrative that resonated with the audience, earning admiration from all in attendance. Sherif Gad, President of the Association of Graduates of Russian and Soviet Universities also attended the event and conveyed congratulations to the Russian Ambassador on behalf of the Egyptian-Russian Friendship Association. Russia reaffirms commitment to strengthen ties with Brunei and Asean, says ambassador to Brunei

This was highlighted by Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Brunei Darussalam Mikhail Baranov in his remarks at the Russian National Day reception held at the Songket Ballroom Wednesday night. 'Our bilateral relations with Brunei Darussalam are developing in a spirit of mutual respect and constructive engagement,' said the ambassador. 'In July 2024, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met with Brunei's Minister of Foreign Affairs II Dato Seri Setia Erywan Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Mohd Yusof, on the sidelines of Asean-related events, reaffirming our shared interest in strengthening political dialogue.' Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Mohd Isham Jaafar was present as the guest of honour, representing the Brunei Government. Also in attendance were members of the diplomatic corps, senior government officials, and invited guests from various sectors. The event commenced with the national anthems of Brunei Darussalam and the Russian Federation, followed by welcoming remarks from Ambassador Baranov. He noted that a recent visit by a Deputy Minister from the Prime Minister's Office to Moscow for the 13th Meeting of Senior Security Officials included a series of productive bilateral discussions, further strengthening cooperation in the field of security. 'Russia and Brunei also maintain close coordination within international institutions, where both countries often share similar views on global challenges and the principles that should govern international relations,' said the ambassador. 'I am confident that our partnership will continue to expand across many areas — from energy and education to cultural exchange and regional security — for the benefit of our peoples and in the interest of peace and development in the Asia-Pacific region and beyond.' The evening concluded with a symbolic cake-cutting ceremony by the ambassador and the guest of honour to mark the celebration of Russia Day. Russia's Kostroma Forges Stronger Cultural Ties with Egypt

The visit is supported by the Russian Presidential Fund and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, in collaboration with Egypt's Ministry of Culture. During their stay, the ensemble is engaging in a series of artistic and educational exchanges aimed at fostering mutual cultural understanding. Arseniy Matyushenko, Acting Director of the Russian Cultural Centers in Egypt, noted the importance of cultural outreach, stating, 'The Russian side is keen to strengthen communication with Egyptian cultural institutions.' He highlighted several collaborative activities, including a workshop with students from the Higher Institute of Ballet at the Egyptian Academy of Arts, as well as a joint rehearsal with Egypt's iconic Reda Folklore Ensemble that featured both Egyptian and Russian folk dance traditions. A press conference held at the Russian Embassy in Cairo brought together key cultural figures from both nations. Among the attendees were Russian Ambassador Georgy Borisenko; Yelena Tsarenko, Producer and Director of the Kostroma Ensemble; Khaled Galal, Head of Egypt's Cultural Production Sector; Hesham Gamal, Vice President of the Egyptian Academy of Arts; Enas Abdel Aziz, Director of the Reda Ensemble; and Maria Vishkina, Director of the College of Dance. Ambassador Borisenko remarked on the growing momentum of cultural exchange between Russia and Egypt, describing it as a 'rich and productive period of artistic cooperation.' Galal emphasized the significance of Kostroma's visit, calling it a reflection of the depth of bilateral relations and the shared commitment to cultural collaboration. Elena Tsarenko explained that the ensemble's tour is part of a wider initiative sponsored by the Russian Presidential Fund, aimed at deepening cultural ties with partner countries. The program launched this year in Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, and China, and is set to expand to Brazil, India, Ethiopia, and South Africa in 2026. It encompasses artistic workshops, joint performances, and cultural exchanges that encourage dialogue and understanding between nations. The ensemble's visit will culminate in a joint performance with the Reda Troupe, scheduled as part of the upcoming celebrations for Russian National Day.
