Russia's Kostroma Forges Stronger Cultural Ties with Egypt
In a significant step toward enhancing cultural exchange, the renowned Russian Kostroma Folklore Ensemble is making its debut visit to Egypt as part of a broader initiative under the BRICS Cultural Cooperation Program.
The visit is supported by the Russian Presidential Fund and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, in collaboration with Egypt's Ministry of Culture.
During their stay, the ensemble is engaging in a series of artistic and educational exchanges aimed at fostering mutual cultural understanding.
Arseniy Matyushenko, Acting Director of the Russian Cultural Centers in Egypt, noted the importance of cultural outreach, stating, 'The Russian side is keen to strengthen communication with Egyptian cultural institutions.'
He highlighted several collaborative activities, including a workshop with students from the Higher Institute of Ballet at the Egyptian Academy of Arts, as well as a joint rehearsal with Egypt's iconic Reda Folklore Ensemble that featured both Egyptian and Russian folk dance traditions.
A press conference held at the Russian Embassy in Cairo brought together key cultural figures from both nations. Among the attendees were Russian Ambassador Georgy Borisenko; Yelena Tsarenko, Producer and Director of the Kostroma Ensemble; Khaled Galal, Head of Egypt's Cultural Production Sector; Hesham Gamal, Vice President of the Egyptian Academy of Arts; Enas Abdel Aziz, Director of the Reda Ensemble; and Maria Vishkina, Director of the College of Dance.
Ambassador Borisenko remarked on the growing momentum of cultural exchange between Russia and Egypt, describing it as a 'rich and productive period of artistic cooperation.' Galal emphasized the significance of Kostroma's visit, calling it a reflection of the depth of bilateral relations and the shared commitment to cultural collaboration.
Elena Tsarenko explained that the ensemble's tour is part of a wider initiative sponsored by the Russian Presidential Fund, aimed at deepening cultural ties with partner countries. The program launched this year in Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, and China, and is set to expand to Brazil, India, Ethiopia, and South Africa in 2026. It encompasses artistic workshops, joint performances, and cultural exchanges that encourage dialogue and understanding between nations.
The ensemble's visit will culminate in a joint performance with the Reda Troupe, scheduled as part of the upcoming celebrations for Russian National Day. Tsarenko described the initiative as 'an important opportunity to bridge cultures through the universal language of the arts.'

Naguib Mahfouz Museum adds 2 evening shifts starting July - Stage & Street - Arts & Culture
The Museum of Naguib Mahfouz, Egypt's Nobel laureate for literature, has added two evening shifts on Saturdays and Sundays starting this July. The move aims to revitalize cultural activity in Historic Cairo, allowing tourists and local visitors to explore the rare collections, works, and possessions of the famed Egyptian novelist. On Saturdays and Sundays, the museum will be open to visitors in two shifts: from 9am to 2pm and from 6pm to 10pm. Throughout the remaining days, the opening hours remain unchanged, from 9am to 4pm. Naguib Mahfouz Museum The museum, which opened in July 2019 in the Muhammad Bek Abu Al-Dahab Complex, is an edifice built in 1774 under Ottoman rule. It lies beside the main entrance of Al-Azhar Mosque. The museum comprises two floors spanning an area of 1,600 square metres. The first floor hosts several libraries, including a general library with 165 books, a literary library with 119 books, Mahfouz's library with 1,091 books on art and literature, and a collection of approximately 266 books penned by Mahfouz in Arabic, along with their translated copies. The second floor is divided into several halls, including the Nobel Hall, which is dedicated to displaying Mahfouz's Nobel medallion and certificate, along with other certificates, medallions, and awards he received throughout his life. The floor also features the Biography Hall, which showcases his personal belongings, including clothing, glasses, pens, papers, and letters, along with manuscripts written in his handwriting and his desk. The Literature Hall displays the old and new editions of Mahfouz's works along with his translated works. The Alley Hall features an exhibition on Mahfouz's life and a film about the neighbourhood where he lived and its influence on his writings. Co-produced by Kingoo and Zaza's long-time collaborator Ismail Nosrat, the track showcases a noticeable sonic shift for both artists. Known for their sharp wordplay and punchy delivery, the Egyptian rap stars step out of their usual lanes, blurring the lines between trap and Arabic pop to explore a more melodic, catchy sound, all wrapped in slick, bass-driven production imbued with distortion and trap muscle. Egyptian student wins Quiz on Korea during Egypt-Korea diplomatic ties celebrations - City Lights - Life & Style
Amid the Egypt-Korea celebrations of 30-year diplomatic relations and the 20th anniversary of Ain Shams University's Korean Language and Literature Department, Rawan Hamed, a third-year university student, won Egypt's preliminary contest 'Quiz on Korea,' earning a spot in September's global finals. The embassy of South Korea in Egypt hosted the 2025 Quiz on Korea event at Ain Shams University on 29 June, in celebration of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between South Korea and Egypt and the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Korean Language and Literature Department at Ain Shams University. The Quiz on Korea was held in collaboration with the Faculty of Al-Alsun, Ain Shams University. The event is a global quiz competition co-hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Korea and the Korean Broadcasting System (KBS) to raise international interest in Korea. During the contest, participants answer questions covering a wide range of topics, including Korean history, culture, language, and traditions. Contestants had registered in advance through an online application process. The winner of the competition will be invited to Korea as an Egyptian representative to compete in the global final round in September. The grand finale will be broadcast as a KBS special programme on 5 October. The Egypt preliminary consisted of three rounds: OX (true/false), multiple choice, and short-answer questions. At the end of the contest, Hamed emerged as the champion and will represent Egypt in the final round in Korea. Participants at the 2025 Quiz on the Korea global quiz competition. Spectators expressed their admiration for the participants' passion and knowledge of Korea, noting that the event inspired them to learn more about Korean culture and history. In his welcoming remarks, Korean Ambassador to Egypt Kim Yonghyon expressed delight in hosting the Quiz on Korea event, highlighting the strong friendship and partnership between Korea and Egypt. 'The cultural and people-to-people exchanges serve as vital bridges of understanding between the two peoples,' he emphasized. He also expressed his gratitude to all participants and attendees for their enthusiasm and contributions to deepening bilateral cultural exchange. The event also featured celebratory performances by Ain Shams University's student Samulnori club and choir, adding a festive atmosphere to the occasion. In addition, a special Korea-Egypt quiz show was held for the audience, offering an opportunity to deepen their understanding of Korea and the various activities of the Korean embassy. 'Our two nations share strong ties, reflected in the Korean department where students act as cultural ambassadors. The Quiz on Korea is not only a test of knowledge, but also a celebration of our shared passion for Korean culture and cross-cultural connection,' Dean of the Faculty of Al-Alsun Prof. Salwa Rashad stated in her opening remarks.
