Two-language formula disadvantage to state board students: SCERT director
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Rahul Rekhawar, the director of Maharashtra State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), on Friday said students from state board-run schools were at a disadvantage because of the two-language formula when compared with students from other boards. "Only two languages are taught in state board-run schools from Std I, whereas three languages are taught in all other medium schools of all boards. Thus, children studying in state board schools are at a disadvantage. Arunachal to have CBSE sub-regional office soon

The CBSE office will be housed within the SCERT campus at Gohpur Tinali in Chimpu. The Arunachal govt has allotted a space of 1720 sq. ft. in the old SCERT building to facilitate the initiative, underscoring its commitment to improving service delivery to CBSE-affiliated schools in the state. Trichy: School education minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi held a review meeting with district education officials on Wednesday related to the state level achievement survey (SLAS), a sample survey done by the state planning commission, SCERT, directorates of school education and elementary education this year for measuring learning outcomes of students and identify areas of improvement for students of classes 3, 5 and 8 in govt and aided schools. Trichy district ranked sixth overall in the state-level survey. Headmasters and block education officers from five blocks - Trichy Urban, Andhanallur, Thiruverumbur, Pullambadi, and Manikandam - that recorded the lowest performance in the district participated in the meeting. Although an overall district action plan had been submitted at the end of last month, sources said the minister called for increased attention to the underperforming blocks. The minister also said that he will be meeting and motivating the heads of schools and education officials from these lesser performing blocks. "We will be preparing block-specific action plans over the next two to three weeks," a source said. Despite these variations, sources noted that Trichy performed better than the state average in all subjects across the three assessed classes.
