PMK founder Ramadoss urges police to stop his son Anbumanis padayatra

Last Updated: Villupuram, Jul 24 (PTI) Pattali Makkal Katchi founder-leader S Ramadoss on Thursday said police authorities must ban his son Anbumani's padayatra considering the potential for law and order disturbances in north Tamil Nadu. The octogenarian leader referred to Anbumani's proposed padayatra and said it is scheduled to begin on July 25 and his party has lodged a plaint in this regard with a top police official. Speaking to reporters at his Thailapuram-Tindivanam residence near here, he said: 'We have lodged a complaint against the padayatra with the Director General of Police (DGP) seeking action (against the padayatra). Since there is a scope for law and order issues cropping up in north Tamil Nadu, the police should take more precaution and they must ban it (the padayatra)." Further, Ramadoss said though he was aware of who planted the bugging device in his residence and also the objective behind it, he would not make any comment right away as it could jeopardise the ongoing police investigation. The PMK founder said no other leader had to face such a situation. PMK leader Anbumani's statewide tour, christened, 'Anbumani's padayatra to retrieve Tamil Nadu people's rights," is all set to commence on July 25 from Tiruporur near Chennai and culminate in Dharmapuri on November 1. The logo with the tagline 'Anbumani's padayatra to retrieve right, save a generation," was unveiled on July 23. Anbumani's allegation is that the DMK regime is preventing the Tamil Nadu people from exercising 10 kinds of fundamental rights granted to all the people by the Constitution. The rights are, Right to social justice, Women's right to a life free from violence, Right to employment, Right to agriculture and food, Right to grow, develop, Right to good governance and basic services, Right to education, Right to be not affected by alcohol and drugs. Two other rights are related to sustainable urban growth and healthy environment and the objective is retrieval of all such basic rights for the sake of the people. 'My house has been bugged,' says PMK Ramadoss

CUDDALORE: PMK founder S Ramadoss on Friday alleged that a high-end surveillance device was discovered concealed near a chair at his residence, raising serious concern about eavesdropping. 'A sophisticated foreign-made bugging device was found near my chair. We are investigating who is behind this,' Ramadoss told reporters after a party meeting at Virudhachalam. Speaking at the PMK district general body meeting, Ramadoss reiterated his commitment to continue protests against NLC India Ltd. until justice is served for people who lost land and homes to the company. 'We have organised several protests, but NLC has refused to address our demands. Our agitation will continue until rightful compensation and rehabilitation are given,' he said. Highlighting his 46-year political journey, Ramadoss criticised successive governments for ignoring demands for caste-based reservation for Vanniyars.

‘PMK alliance' will win big: Ramadoss

Trichy: Only alliances of which PMK is a part would win big in the next assembly election, PMK founder Dr S Ramadoss said in Poompuhar in Mayiladuthurai district on Friday. He was responding to reporters' questions on whether the rift between him and his son Anbumani would affect PMK's vote bank in the upcoming election. "The alliance having PMK will achieve a huge victory. PMK will also score an unprecedented big win because the alliance would be a strong one," he said. However, Ramadoss did not clarify about the alliance he wanted to be part of. The party founder visited Poompuhar for inspecting the venue of Vanniyar Magalir Maanaadu (Vanniyar women conference) scheduled to be held on Aug 10 in Poompuhar. When reporters asked him if he had met the election commission after he declared that he was the party president, Ramadoss said, "Hereafter, everything will happen properly at the right time." On opposition leader Edappadi K Palaniswami's objection to utilising temple funds to build academic institutions, Ramadoss said there was nothing wrong in it. To a question about the Union govt not allocating funds for Tamil Nadu, Ramadoss said, "The north thrives while the south declines. I would have demanded (funds from) the Prime Minister directly as he is my friend."

Dad acting like a child due to old age, ties with BJP had his nod: Anbumani

CHENNAI/VILLUPURAM: In perhaps the first open reproach against the recent actions of PMK founder S Ramadoss, party president Anbumani Ramadoss on Saturday said his father has become a child in the past five years due to old age. According to party sources, Anbumani, who spoke candidly at a closed-door meeting of the party's social media functionaries in Sholinganallur, refuted his father's claims that the decision to ally with the BJP in 2024 Lok Sabha election was taken without his full knowledge. 'If Ayya had expressed a preference for joining the AIADMK-led alliance, I would have honoured that decision too,' Anbumani reportedly said, while stressing that the alliance with BJP was formed after Ramadoss's approval. Without taking names, he also accused three individuals of 'taking advantage' of his father at the moment for their personal gains and steering the party in the wrong direction by creating confusion.

PMK's S Ramadoss Reasserts Leadership, Opens Door For BJP Alliance In 2026

Chennai: In a dramatic reaffirmation of his control over the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), party founder S Ramadoss on Wednesday declared that he remains the undisputed chief of the party - not his son and former Union minister Anbumani Ramadoss. In a candid interview with NDTV's Sam Daniel, S Ramadoss dismissed Anbumani's leadership. "I will hold the alliance talks, I will decide the seat-sharing. Anbumani doesn't have leadership. He should have gone to every village - he didn't." While refusing to reveal further internal issues, he hinted, "There are some other reasons. I don't want to say them now." Despite the apparent rift, S Ramadoss ruled out any split in the party. "There is no chance of a split. The difference of opinion will be sorted," he said, adding he had not blocked younger leadership. "I made Anbumani Union Health Minister when he was 35. He enjoyed and toured the world." On questions over whether Anbumani could be removed, S Ramadoss was firm: "It's not correct that Anbumani can't be removed. I can call the General Council - everyone will accept my decision." Looking ahead to the 2026 Tamil Nadu assembly elections, S Ramadoss said he was open to continuing the alliance with the BJP. "I am happy being part of the BJP alliance. The AIADMK has accepted the BJP alliance. We too can consider it. But the General Council will decide," he said. At the same time, he said the PMK has ideological differences with the BJP on key cultural and linguistic issues. "Hindi imposition is there - we are crying," he said. "The Centre's three-language policy is an indirect way to impose Hindi. PMK doesn't agree with it. Tamil Nadu only wants Tamil and English." On another sensitive topic, S Ramadoss said he agreed with the DMK's opposition to population-based delimitation. "Tamil Nadu will lose its proportion of MPs in parliament if this happens. I agree with the DMK on this." On assessing the DMK's governance over the past four years, S Ramadoss refrained from direct criticism. "I don't want to criticise the ruling DMK. The people will decide," he said. He also condemned remarks made at a recent Hindu Munnani organised Lord Muruga conference in Madurai, where a video critical of social reformers like Periyar and Annadurai was played. "It is very bad to criticise late leaders who are respected by the people. It is not good," he said. S Ramadoss praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi's performance in his third term, calling it "very good," even as he acknowledged the BJP had not secured a majority on its own. "But, Modi as PM is performing very well," he said. When asked if the party's declining fortunes - from 20 MLAs in 2001 to just 5 now - were linked to shifting alliances, S Ramadoss was unapologetic. "I am not ready to say anything on past alliances. The past is past. Why should we criticise ourselves?" Defending his family's dominance in the PMK, S Ramadoss said, "Family politics is everywhere in India. I have promised not to take any elected position." The PMK currently has S Ramadoss as founder, Anbumani as president, and Anbumani's son in a rising role.
