State govt plans govt portal to hire non-teaching staff
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: State govt has plans to recruit members of non-teaching staff through a dedicated portal, similar to the recruitment of teachers being carried out in govt-run and aided schools. Necessary assessment is being made to introduce a similar centralised online process for recruiting non-teaching staff," said state education commissioner Sachindra Pratap Singh. He was speaking at the state-level review meeting of the school education department in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar city. Clerical staff, librarians, and different posts from non-teaching sections are likely to be filled through the govt portal. The two-day meeting, which concluded on Saturday, also saw discussions on setting July 31 as the cut-off date for deciding the staffing pattern in govt-run schools. The existing deadline for the same is Sept 30. Earlier, addressing the meeting on Friday, School education minister Dada Bhuse said the 'CM SHRI Shala' scheme would be implemented in the state on the lines of the Centre's 'PM SHRI' school scheme. "About 5,000 schools will be developed under the CM SHRI Shala scheme in the state. Also, one class from 10,000 schools across Maharashtra will be made an ideal class," he said. Nagpur: On Thursday, state education commissioner Sachindra Pratap Singh held a review meeting in Nagpur of the department and later met city police commissioner Ravinder Singal. Students & teachers will get to enjoy 129 off days this year PUNE: The school education department has announced the holiday schedule for the 2025-26 session for govt schools in Maharashtra with 129 off days for students and teachers. Schools reopen for the new academic year on June 16 in the rest of the state and on June 23 in Vidarbha. According to this new schedule, there will be 236 days of school sessions, with the remaining allocated for various holidays. Students & teachers will get to enjoy 129 off days this year in Maharastra govt school The education department finalised this timetable after discussions with teachers' associations. Last academic year, there was one less holiday compared to this year. The new session includes an extra Sunday. Throughout the year, there will be 53 Sundays which will be non-working, a govt notification stated. In February , education commissioner Sachindra Pratap Singh had said that schools would reopen on June 16 to end confusions triggered by the State Curriculum Framework for School Education (SCF-SE) that had recommended aligning Maharashtra's academic calendar with the CBSE schedule, shifting the school academic year from June-April to April-March. Education minister Pankaj Bhoyar had said that govt was considering reopening schools from April 1 for the next academic year. But, most teachers' unions opposed the move on the ground that adopting CBSE calendar without considering Maharashtra's social, cultural and geographical factors would be impractical.

CAP: Every Maharashtra student to gets level playing field for XI admissions
Nagpur: As the first ever pan-Maharashtra mandatory Common Admission Process (CAP) for Class 11 admissions in state board-affiliated institutes rolls out, the biggest winner is going to be the student living in remote villages. State's education commissioner Sachindra Pratap Singh told TOI that merit-based admission system will now ensure that a student in Gadchiroli can secure admission in a top Mumbai college, without even leaving his taluka. "This is real democratisation of the Class 11 admission process. Students fill up their marks and the merit-based system gets started. Without ever leaving Gadchiroli, the student can proudly tell her parents that her marks have helped her to get a spot in state's top college," said Singh. The IAS official started working on this project after taken over as education commissioner, with the single aim of ensuring that every student in Maharashtra gets a level playing field for admissions. Earlier the Class 11 CAP was only for some urban areas in Maharashtra. Singh said, "Our focus is to speed up the process and ensure that the new session can begin from August onwards."
