
Education commissioner Sachindra Pratap Singh holds review meet in Nagpur, meets police chief
Nagpur: On Thursday, state education commissioner Sachindra Pratap Singh held a review meeting in Nagpur of the department and later met city police commissioner Ravinder Singal.
This was Singh's first visit to Nagpur after the education scam became public. A source in the education department said, "The education commissioner spoke with our team and reviewed the regular work. He later met police commissioner and went for his scheduled trip to Amravati by road." Later that night, Singh left for Pune.

A team from Bihar will probe chemical factory blast in Telangana: Minister
Patna, July 1 (UNI) Taking serious note of the recent chemical factory explosion in the industrial area of Sangareddy district, Telangana, which claimed the lives of two workers from Bihar and left 16 others injured, the Bihar government has constituted a special team to examine the circumstances surrounding the blast. Bihar Labour Resources Minister Santosh Kumar Singh told media here today that a special investigation team constituted by the Bihar government will soon arrive in Telangana to examine the situation causing the explosion. Singh said this marks the first time that a state government is sending an investigation team to another state following the death of migrant workers in an industrial accident. The team will include experts and will thoroughly examine whether the explosion was the result of gross negligence on the part of the factory management. 'If any major negligence is found, it will be raised before both the Telangana government and the Centre,' said Singh. The minister added that the Bihar government has announced an ex gratia compensation of Rs 4 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 each to the 16 injured workers. The mortal remains of the deceased were expected to reach Patna by this evening and will be transported to their native villages with state assistance, he said. Singh also congratulated Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on the cabinet's approval of the Mukhyamantri Pratigya Yojana. He stated that Bihar has become the first state in India to take such a progressive step to boost employment opportunities for its youth. He highlighted that the lack of work experience has been a major hurdle for Bihari youth in securing jobs in other states. Under the new scheme, 1.05 lakh youths will be connected to internship programs over the next five years. The state government has allocated Rs 685 crore for the implementation of the initiative. Mumbai police seize 710 bottles of opioid cough syrup in Malwani drug bust
MUMBAI: Two men were arrested with bottles of cough syrup mixed with opiates at Malwani on Tuesday. Police said 710 bottles were seized containing cough syrup mixed with codeine phosphate, a form of an opioid pain reliever available by prescription only in many countries due to its potential for addiction and misuse. The Malwani police team had received specific information and picked up Rizwan Ansari, 29, and Naved Batatawala, 27, near MV Desai ground, Marve Road, Malad West on Tuesday. The product was being sold in plastic bottles for Rs 500 each. The two accused are residents of Dongri. They have been booked under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act by sub-inspector Deepak Hinde under the supervision of DCP Anand Bhoite and senior inspector Shailendra Nagarkar. Man who killed relative, chopped off genitals held by MBVV crime branch after 13 years on the run
VASAI: The MBVV Crime Branch Unit I has nabbed a murder accused on the run for the last 13 years, since May 2012, after he had brutally killed his close relative by stabbing him several times on face, chest, stomach and rest of the body. The murder was so brutal that the accused didnt stop at stabbing but had also chopped off his genitals and fled the scene, going absconding for a decade plus. The murder took place on the night of May 28, 2012, at the house of the deceased, Sureshkumar Chaudhary,35, in Bhayandar east. The Navghar cops registered a case against an unknown person under IPC section of 302 (murder) and were investigating this case, but since the accused kept changing his location this case remained unsolved.
