Uttar Pradesh blocks two Urs events citing law & order concerns

Representative image (ANI) AYODHYA : Local authorities in Ayodhya and Barabanki of BJP-governed UP have refused to allow two annual Urs ceremonies, citing concerns over potential breach of peace and law-and-order problems. The ceremonies have been held for years and the permission for the one in Ayodhya was denied following a complaint from VHP activists. The Ayodhya gathering has been organised at the shrine of Dada Miya in Khanpur Masodha area. The other relates to the Urs of Syed Shakeel Baba and has been held in Phoolpur area of Barabanki for the past 75 years. The VHP complaint claimed the Ayodhya gathering was being organised in the name of "Ghazi Baba" (a reference to Syed Salar Masood of Bahraich) instead of Dada Miya Urs. Salar Masood is believed to be the nephew of Mahmud of Ghazni and served as his military commander. Chief minister Yogi Adityanath recently declared that no event celebrating foreign aggressors should be allowed in the state. The permission granted under the name of "Urs Dada Miya" has been revoked as it was found that it was being organised under the name of Ghazi Baba, said Ayodhya circle officer Ashutosh Tiwari. For the Barabanki event, clearance was denied due to concerns of potential unrest. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo "Some disputes have emerged that may lead to communal tension and unrest. Ayodhya, Barabanki admins say no to two Urs over law & order concerns

Ayodhya: Local administrations in Ayodhya and Barabanki have refused to grant permissions for organising two separate 'Urs' ceremonies that have been held in the districts for the past several years on grounds that the two events could lead to breach of peace and a law & order crisis. One of these Urs was an annual affair held at the shrine of Dada Miya in the Khanpur Masodha area of Ayodhya. The other relates to the Urs of Syed Shakeel Baba, which, too, has been an annual event for the last 75 years, held at Phoolpur area of Barabanki. Following a complaint from the activists of Vishwa Hindu Parishad , the Ayodhya administration cancelled the permission for the Dada Miya Urs. The complainants claimed that a gathering was being organized in the name of 'Ghazi Baba' (a reference to Syed Salar Masood of Bahraich) at these Urs events. Subsequent police investigation revealed that the organizers obtained permission from local administration for organising an event under the name of 'Urs Dada Miya' but they were found collecting donations by printing receipts under the name of 'Ghazi Baba Urs'. The permission granted under the name of 'Urs Dada Miya' has been revoked as it was found that 'Urs' was under the name of Ghazi Baba, said Ayodhya circle officer Ashutosh Tiwari. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với mức chênh lệch giá thấp nhất IC Markets Đăng ký Undo In Mohammadpur Khala police station area in Barabanki district, the four-day Urs of Syed Shakeel Baba that was traditionally being held for 75 years, has also been denied nod due to concerns over law and order and potential unrest. Barabanki additional SP Vikas Tripathi said, "Some disputes have emerged that may lead to communal tension and unrest. IN view of this, the administration has refused to grant permission for the Urs." In May, the Bahraich district administration had denied nod for the annual Jeth Mela, held at the dargah of Syed Salar Masood, citing an LIU report flagging law and order concerns. Before this, the state government had denied permission for holding the Sambhal's Neja Mela, also in the name of Salar Masood. In Gorakhpur, the iconic Bale Miyan fair held in memory of Salar Masood—locally called Bale Miyan—was scheduled to begin on May 18. However, the district administration did not grant the necessary security clearance, effectively stalling the fair. This was followed by CM Yogi Adityanath's assertion that glorification of invaders amounted to treason which an "independent India will not tolerate". Salar Masood, a semi-legendary figure, is believed to be the nephew of Mahmud of Ghazni and served as his military commander. The main source of information about him is contained in Mirat-i-Masudi, a Persian-language hagiography written by Abdur Rahman Chishti during the reign of Jahangir. According to Mirat-i-Masudi, Ghazi was killed in a battle with Maharaja Suheldev of Shravasti at Bahraich in 1034 CE. Where he is believed to have been buried is now the Dargah Sharif in Bahraich. On June 10, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated a 40-foot-high statue of Maharaja Suheldev, an icon of the Rajbhar community, in Bahraich. Speaking on the occasion, the CM said no event celebrating foreign aggressors should be allowed in the state. He proposed that a three-day 'Vijayotsav' should be celebrated from next year onwards to commemorate Maharaja Suheldev's victory over Syed Salar Masood in the Battle of Bahraich. In Bahraich, Adityanath slams 'glorification' of Salar Masood

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday opposed the glorification of Salar Masood , revered as a warrior-saint from 11th century, saying the punishment given to the "foreign invader" after being captured "guaranteed him a place in hell according to Islam". He was speaking on the occasion of the inauguration of a statue of Maharaja Suheldev and the launching of 384 development projects worth Rs 1,243 crore in Bahraich . Maharaja Suheldev, an icon of the Rajbhar community, had defeated and killed Ghaznavid general Ghazi Saiyyad Salar Masood in a battle on the banks of the Chittora Lake in Bahraich in 1033 AD. "I had said on the soil of Bahraich that glorification of foreign invaders should be stopped and that the national heroes must be honoured. And 1,000 years ago, such a tale of courage and bravery was written by Maharaja Suheldev on this very soil of Bahraich," he said. Adityanath said that it was Prime Minister Narendra Modi 's instruction that national heroes should be honoured. Live Events "History may have done injustice to him (Maharaja Suheldev), but this double-engine government will not allow it," he said. Referring to the battle in Chittora, Adityanath said, "To stop the barbaric foreign invader who moved from Ghazni along with his 3-lakh-strong army to loot India, Maharaja Suheldev led the resistance from Mathura to Bahraich... By the time the invader reached (here), half of his army had already perished." "When he (Masood) reached Chittora, Maharaja Suheldev had 20,000 to 25,000 bravehearts while there were 1.5 lakh warriors with Salar Masood. "But, these 20,000 to 25,000 bravehearts killed them ruthlessly. Evil Salar Masood was caught alive and he was given such punishment that it guaranteed him a place in hell according to Islam ('Dusht Salar Masood yehaan zindaa pakra liya gayaa, aur ussko sazaa bhi aisee hui ki jo Islam ke anusaar jahannum mein jaane kee guarantee deta hai')." The remarks come in the backdrop of the controversy over the Bahraich district administration denying permission for the annual 'Jeth Mela', which was traditionally held at the dargah of Salar Masood from May 15 to June 15 and drew lakhs of pilgrims. In an official statement, the administration on May 3 cited the prevailing atmosphere of public anger following incidents like the Pahalgam attack and Sambhal violence and concerns surrounding the amended Waqf Act as the reasons. The Allahabad High Court had on May 17 declined to grant permission for organising the annual fair at the dargah. However, in its order, the court's Lucknow bench allowed rituals and other related routine activities at the dargah. "There should be no events in the name of foreign invaders... If the main event of Bahraich is organised, it will be in the name of Maharaja Suheldev ji, it will be in the name of Balark Rishi, it will be in the name of Adishakti Maa Pateshwari Devi," Adityanath said on Tuesday. Attacking the previous governments led by the Samajwadi Party and others, the chief minister questioned why Suheldev was "not honoured" after independence. "They were afraid to anger their Muslim vote bank and were worried that their appeasement politics would fail. That is why they did not speak a word against the foreign invaders," Adityanath said.
