Mother of slain Adelaide man tells court of wound 'that can never be healed'

The mother of a man killed over a dispute about a motorcycle in Adelaide's northern suburbs has told a court the death of her son created a wound "that can never be healed". Johnathon Malcolm Goodfellow, 32, was previously found not guilty by a Supreme Court jury of murder over the stabbing death of Jordan Torrans, but guilty of manslaughter. Mr Torrans died after he was stabbed six times at Mr Goodfellow's Salisbury Downs home on September 20, 2023. On Monday, the Supreme Court heard 16 victim impact statements from the family of Mr Torrans, with his mother, Dawn Torrans, saying her life was "shattered the day you killed my son". "The impact of what you've done is far greater than you can possibly imagine because he was a genuinely good person," she said. "You stole a son, a brother, a grandson, a nephew, an uncle, a cousin, a friend and a father. You stabbed all of my family that day. Prosecutor Chris Pouras read a victim impact statement to the court on behalf of Mr Torrans's daughter Laurie, who was just 10-years-old when her father died. "I miss my dad. I miss his jokes and his laugh and the time he spent with me," she wrote. "I never get to see my mum and dad together again. We never get to have food together again, or car rides as a family again. "My family can never call my dad again when we need his help. "I now have to live longer without my dad than while I got to live with my dad." Defence lawyer Jeffrey Powell, for Goodfellow, told the court the offence occurred "in the circumstance" of a "home invasion committed by Mr Torrans". "At the time of Mr Torrans's arrival to the premises, and his entry to the kitchen, Mr Goodfellow was entirely blameless. "The dispute between these two men was tragically, in some way, nothing other than trifling." Goodfellow will be sentenced at a later date.
