AAP hand in glove with BJP-led Central government, says Punjab Congress chief Warring
By Harpreet Kaur , Hoshiarpur Jun 30, 2025 08:42 AM IST Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring on Sunday alleged that the AAP government in Punjab is hand in glove with the Centre and that's why chief minister Bhagwant Mann acted against the farmers. Hoshirpur, Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring addressing a rally in Hoshiarpur on Sunday. (Harpreet Kaur/HT) Addressing a 'Samvidhan Bachao' rally, Warring said that agriculture was Punjab's lifeline and the BJP-led government was bent on destroying it by enforcing farm laws and denying minimum support price (MSP) to crops. The rally was organised by former minister Sunder Sham Arora. 'The Centre thinks that if it will touch their raw nerve, the whole Punjab will feel the pain. Then it will be easy for it to enforce its ideology', Warring alleged, stating that the BJP-led Union government was weakening the state as it refused to accept RSS ideology. Warring said that the RSS and the BJP never accepted the Constitution and after coming to power, were strategising to weaken it. 'The Congress, under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi would never allow it. It was because of the Constitution that the Indians had become 'citizens' or else they would still be 'subjects' of their rulers. The Constitution brought equality and secularism and gave people the right to live respectfully. It is the responsibility of every citizen to save the Constitution,' he added. Later talking to the media, Warring said that there was no rift in the party. 'Like other families, the Congress family too has some differences but you cannot call them rift. These are temporary and when Punjab's interest will be at stake, all will come together,' he said.

Look in the mirror: CM's miffed reply to Gehlot
1 2 Jodhpur: In a fiery address at the Marwar International Auditorium here Thursday, chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma delivered a pointed critique that seemed to take aim at both the Congress party 's historical imposition of Emergency in 1975 and his predecessor, Ashok Gehlot . Speaking at a felicitation program for 'Gaurav Sainanis' commemorating the 50th anniversary of Emergency, Sharma said, "Look in the mirror and ask yourself. What all atrocities were committed against the people of this country? The public knows how low you can stoop for the sake of a chair." Sharma's remarks come in the wake of Gehlot's claims—a day earlier—about a conspiracy within BJP to oust the former from his position as the chief minister. Gehlot had advised Sharma to remain vigilant, suggesting that BJP was actively working to destabilise his govt. In response, Sharma dismissed Gehlot's concerns, asserting that he need not worry about him and instead should focus on own party Congress, which was getting weaker. Not stopping at this, Gehlot Thursday accused BJP of toppling state govts in Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra, questioning the party's sincerity to democratic principles while celebrating Constitution Day. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Cervecería Nacional CFD: Calcula cuánto podrías ganar invirtiendo solo $100 Empieza a invertir Inscríbete ahora Undo Sharma strongly rebutted these allegations, pointing to Congress's historical record of invoking Article 356 to dismiss state govts. "How many elected state govts have you dismissed in this country?" the CM questioned, adding that "every mistake will have to be answered for." The CM also criticised the opposition's planned Samvidhan Bachao (Save the Constitution) rally in Jodhpur, questioning their credibility in protecting constitutional values. "How will they save the Constitution when they haven't even respected the one who created it?" Sharma asked.

Kharge slams Centre's Emergency commemoration as political diversion
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday said his party's Samvidhan Bachao (Save the Constitution) Yatras have rattled the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is why the central government has issued a circular directing states to observe Samvidhan Hatya Divas (Constitution Murder Day) to mark the 50th anniversary of the imposition of the Emergency. Addressing a press conference at the Congress' Indira Bhavan here, Kharge referred to a Union Culture Ministry letter to chief secretaries of all states and Union Territories, calling for a year-long commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Emergency on June 25 as Samvidhan Hatya Divas. He said the BJP was resorting to this 'drama' to deflect attention from its governance failures, such as rising prices, joblessness, corruption, economic stagnation and growing inequality. Responding to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's criticism of the Congress over the imposition of the Emergency in 1975, Kharge said a government that has no tolerance and suppresses fraternity and liberty has no right to lecture others. He alleged the BJP had no role in the freedom movement or in the framing of the Constitution and accused the Sangh Parivar of having once burnt copies of the Constitution at Ramlila Maidan, claiming it did not reflect Indian traditions such as the Manusmriti. The Congress president accused the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government of creating a state of 'undeclared emergency' over the past eleven years. He claimed the country was witnessing a breakdown of constitutional values, particularly the erosion of free expression. 'Even students and journalists who question the government are branded deshdrohi,' he said. Kharge also criticised Prime Minister Modi for never attending an open press conference or taking unscripted questions, claiming the PM only interacts with selected journalists with pre-approved queries. The Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha reiterated the charge that the Modi government prioritises a few industrialists at the expense of small and medium enterprises. 'India has many industrialists, but the government favours only three or four. The poor are getting poorer, the rich richer, and Modi is handing the nation's wealth to his friends,' he said. Kharge questioned the PM's silence over former US President Donald Trump's repeated claims of brokering a ceasefire between India and Pakistan. 'Trump claimed credit multiple times, yet our PM did not have the courage to respond even once,' he said. He also criticised the prime minister for not visiting strife-torn Manipur and for attempting to politicise the Pahalgam terror attack while campaigning in Bihar, even as the Congress stood with the government to protect the nation.

Union Cabinet Passes Resolution On Dark Era Of Emergency
As the nation observes 50 years of Emergency, imposed on June 25, 1975, the Union Cabinet passed a resolution on Wednesday to remember the individuals who resisted the subversion of democracy and the Indian Constitution by the then Indira Gandhi dispensation. The Union Cabinet, chaired by PM Modi, also observed a two-minute silence for those who made sacrifices while fighting the Emergency and were subjected to unimaginable horrors by the then autocratic government. 'The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, resolved to commemorate and honour the sacrifices of countless individuals who valiantly resisted the Emergency and its attempt at subversion of the spirit of Indian Constitution, a subversion which began in 1974 with a heavy-handed attempt at crushing the Navnirman Andolan and Sampoorna Kranti Abhiyan,' said the government statement. The passage of the resolution by the Cabinet comes amidst an intense war of words between the BJP and the Congress party over the Emergency. BJP has announced to observe the 50 years of Emergency as 'Samvidhan Hatya Diwas' while Congress is calling it an eyewash to hide the ruling party's own guilt. 'BJP is deliberately doing this type of drama only because of our constant Samvidhan Bachao campaign, as they have a guilty conscience,' Congress leader KC Venugopal said while accusing the government of imposing 'undeclared Emergency' for the past 11 years. Further briefing the media about the Cabinet resolution on Emergency, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that the two-minute silence was a tribute to those who were then subjected to unimaginable horrors during the darkest hour of Indian democracy. 'The Union Cabinet paid tributes to their exemplary courage and valiant resistance to the Emergency's excesses,' he stated. 'The year 2025 marks 50 years of the Samvidhan Hatya Diwas -- an unforgettable chapter in the history of India where the Constitution was subverted, the Republic and democratic spirit of India were attacked, federalism was undermined, and fundamental rights, human liberty and dignity were suspended,' he further said. "The Union Cabinet further reaffirmed that the people repose unflinching faith in the Constitution and the resilience of the country's democratic ethos. It is as important for the young as it is for the old to draw inspiration from those who resisted dictatorial tendencies and stood firm to defend our Constitution and its democratic fabric,' he remarked.

Congress begins restructuring of block units across Rajasthan
The Opposition Congress in Rajasthan has initiated an organisational exercise to constitute block committees across all Assembly constituencies and fill vacant posts in a bid to strengthen the party's structure ahead of the local body elections. While 80% of the block committees have been formed, the appointment of District Congress Committee (DCC) presidents will be carried out by the All India Congress Committee (AICC). Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Govind Singh Dotasra, who met Assembly coordinators from the State's seven divisions on Monday and Tuesday, said that a list of booth-level agents would be finalised within the next seven days. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge had directed the State leadership during the Samvidhan Bachao rally held on April 28 to complete all pending appointments within two months. Mr. Dotasra said the party would allocate 50% of tickets in the upcoming urban local body and Panchayati Raj elections to candidates below the age of 50. 'This will help us in confronting the Bharatiya Janata Party government which is neither focused on people's welfare nor interested in continuing the schemes launched by the previous [Congress] regime,' he said. Around two dozen Pradesh Congress cells and departments, which were dissolved during the 2020 political crisis triggered by former Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot's rebellion, are yet to be reconstituted. Though eight new district units were created in April, their respective heads are yet to be appointed. Mr. Dotasra said City Congress units would be set up in all 249 Municipal Council areas across the State, aimed at reinforcing the party's presence at the grassroots level. These units will encompass both urban and rural regions within the blocks, with committee formation expected to be completed before June 28. The PCC chief stated that the party had collected feedback on the activities of Assembly coordinators, their constituency visits, meeting attendance by senior leaders, and the public issues raised by elected representatives in panchayats and local bodies. This input, he said, would aid in achieving the organisational targets within the stipulated time. Mr. Dotasra held one-on-one interactions with coordinators from Jaipur, Udaipur, and Kota divisions on Monday, and with those from Bharatpur, Ajmer, Jodhpur, and Bikaner divisions on Tuesday. He directed them to follow the party's schedule of activities and ensure that block committees play a key role in the forthcoming local body and panchayat elections.
