Union Cabinet Passes Resolution On Dark Era Of Emergency
The Union Cabinet, chaired by PM Modi, also observed a two-minute silence for those who made sacrifices while fighting the Emergency and were subjected to unimaginable horrors by the then autocratic government.
'The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, resolved to commemorate and honour the sacrifices of countless individuals who valiantly resisted the Emergency and its attempt at subversion of the spirit of Indian Constitution, a subversion which began in 1974 with a heavy-handed attempt at crushing the Navnirman Andolan and Sampoorna Kranti Abhiyan,' said the government statement.
The passage of the resolution by the Cabinet comes amidst an intense war of words between the BJP and the Congress party over the Emergency. BJP has announced to observe the 50 years of Emergency as 'Samvidhan Hatya Diwas' while Congress is calling it an eyewash to hide the ruling party's own guilt.
'BJP is deliberately doing this type of drama only because of our constant Samvidhan Bachao campaign, as they have a guilty conscience,' Congress leader KC Venugopal said while accusing the government of imposing 'undeclared Emergency' for the past 11 years.
Further briefing the media about the Cabinet resolution on Emergency, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that the two-minute silence was a tribute to those who were then subjected to unimaginable horrors during the darkest hour of Indian democracy.
'The Union Cabinet paid tributes to their exemplary courage and valiant resistance to the Emergency's excesses,' he stated.
'The year 2025 marks 50 years of the Samvidhan Hatya Diwas -- an unforgettable chapter in the history of India where the Constitution was subverted, the Republic and democratic spirit of India were attacked, federalism was undermined, and fundamental rights, human liberty and dignity were suspended,' he further said.
"The Union Cabinet further reaffirmed that the people repose unflinching faith in the Constitution and the resilience of the country's democratic ethos. It is as important for the young as it is for the old to draw inspiration from those who resisted dictatorial tendencies and stood firm to defend our Constitution and its democratic fabric,' he remarked.

While some government officials said US demands were not very clear, for India, Goyal said Indian expectations for duty concessions in labour-intensive sectors were the focus of the trade deal. Thackeray brothers to address joint victory rally today to celebrate Maha govt's turnaround on Hindi from Grade 1
Mumbai: Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray will on Saturday participate in a joint victory rally organised by the Shiv Sena (UBT) and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), in Worli Dome to celebrate the MahaYuti government's decision to withdraw two government resolutions on the introduction of Hindi from Classes 1 to 5. It will be the first joint rally of the Thackeray cousin brothers Uddhav and Raj, after the split in the Shiv Sena in 2005. Amid talks of coming together ahead of the upcoming BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections slated to be held within the next six months, Uddhav and Raj have decided to jointly rake up the issues of Marathi language and 'Marathi Manoos' in a serious bid to corner the BJP-led MahaYuti government in Maharashtra. Both the parties have decided not to display party flags and banners but the Shiv Sainiks and ManSainiks have worked hard to put up a major show of strength on Saturday. Uddhav and Raj Thackeray will be seen on the same platform as they will reach the joint rally venue at 11.30 A.M. CM Rekha to begin public hearings from new Raj Niwas Marg bungalow
New Delhi: A special hawan and pujan ceremony was conducted on Friday at a government bungalow on the Raj Niwas Marg that has been allotted to Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. Though Gupta will continue residing at her private home in Shalimar Bagh for now, she will begin holding daily public meetings at the newly allotted residence, which she referred to as 'Chief Minister Janseva Sadan.' 'This is not a personal house; this is a place for public service. People will be heard here every morning,' Gupta said after the ritual. She is expected to officially move into the bungalow during the upcoming Navratri festival in September. The newly allotted government accommodation, located in Civil Lines, includes two bungalows 1/8 and 2/8 Raj Niwas Marg, which will function as her official residence and camp office. The premises are currently undergoing renovation, with costs estimated around ₹60 lakh, according to officials from the Public Works Department. The decision to allot this bungalow was made keeping in mind its proximity to the Raj Niwas Secretariat, ITO, and other central government offices. Several senior BJP leaders including ministers, MLAs, and Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva were present at the hawan ceremony. Gupta had earlier declined to move into the controversial Sheeshmahal bungalow in Civil Lines, which was used by former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. The BJP had raised serious allegations during the Assembly election campaign, claiming that irregularities in the construction of Sheeshmahal amounted to a scam. A vigilance inquiry into the matter is on.
