LEMON GROVE, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — A SWAT standoff is underway Monday in Lemon Grove, authorities said. Around 2:12 p.m., authorities responded to a call about an assault with a deadly weapon in the 1700 block of Skyline Drive, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Office. 2 arrested at DUI checkpoint in North County

POWAY, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — Two people were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence at a checkpoint in Poway on Friday night, authorities said. According to the San Diego County Sheriff's Office, deputies conducted the roadblock in the 12700 block of Poway Road into the night. A total of 484 vehicles traveled into the checkpoint and authorities said 31 motorists were sent for a secondary evaluation. DUI patrol, seat belt enforcement ramped up ahead of Memorial Day Seven drivers conducted field sobriety tests, though only two were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, the sheriff's office confirmed. Additionally, six drivers were cited for driving without a license or with a suspended license, another seven were cited for not having their driver license in their possession, and one driver was cited for a traffic signal violation. 'DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on reported incidents of impaired driving-related crashes,' authorities noted in a press release. 'The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints is to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off roads.' Funding for this checkpoint is provided to the San Diego County Sheriff's Office by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
