Marine police foil diesel smuggling attempt in Sandakan
KOTA KINABALU: Suspected smugglers using a fishing vessel as a cover were intercepted by marine police in Sandakan.
During a 3.15am raid on Saturday (July 5), marine patrol personnel noticed a fishing vessel moving suspiciously and decided to inspect it.
"Inside the vessel, our men found eight fibre tanks filled with diesel believed to be smuggled into a neighbouring country," said the Sandakan Marine Police in a statement.
The diesel, weighing around 700 litres and valued at approximately RM367,050, was confiscated, and a 54-year-old local skipper was arrested.
This case is being investigated under the Supply Control Act 1961.
