
Marine police foil diesel smuggling attempt in Sandakan
During a 3.15am raid on Saturday (July 5), marine patrol personnel noticed a fishing vessel moving suspiciously and decided to inspect it.
"Inside the vessel, our men found eight fibre tanks filled with diesel believed to be smuggled into a neighbouring country," said the Sandakan Marine Police in a statement.
The diesel, weighing around 700 litres and valued at approximately RM367,050, was confiscated, and a 54-year-old local skipper was arrested.
This case is being investigated under the Supply Control Act 1961.

KUCHING: The General Operations Force (GOF) Sarawak brigade has successfully seized smuggled goods worth RM1.16 million in a series of operations conducted across the southern part of the state. The operations, codenamed Op Taring Awas and Op Batas, targeted illegal smuggling activities in multiple locations. Meanwhile, a patrol in Tebedu last Saturday uncovered 145 cartons of smuggled cigarettes with unpaid taxes estimated at RM78,300. In a separate incident in Tebedu, a 39-year-old man was arrested, and authorities confiscated 576 kg of sugar and a van, with a combined value of RM62,141.60. – Bernama

KUCHING, July 7 (Bernama) -- The General Operations Force (GOF), Sarawak brigade seized various goods worth RM1.16 million under Op Taring Awas and Op Batas held at various locations in the south of the state recently. Its commander, SAC Dr Che Ghazali Che Awang said that an operation on July 2 in Bau led to the arrest of a man, 25, along with 9,000 kilogrammes (kg) of frozen food worth RM522,000, and a lorry. 'On the same day, also in Bau, the GOF arrested a man, 52, and seized 6,500 kg of frozen food products worth RM367,000, including a lorry,' he said in a statement here today.
