WATCH: Young fan's unforgettable moment as he performs on stage with The Script

A young music fan had the night of his dreams on Saturday when he got to perform on stage alongside his favourite band, The Script, in Limerick. Young 'Charlie', charmed the crowd as he sang and helped perform a little piano piece alongside his musical hero and The Script frontman, Danny O'Donoghue, on stage at Thomond Park. O'Donoghue told the crowd at the band's only Irish date on their Satellites tour that he picked Charlie out of the masses after the lad caught his eye dressed in a Satellites Tour t-shirt and a Script bucket hat and waving a giant flag of the Irish pop-rock band. Charlie performed a duet with O'Donoghue and the band on a mini circular stage located in the middle of the heaving crowd during a version of the band's ballad, Never Seen Anything - 'Quite Like You'. 'Everybody give it up for Charlie,' O'Donoghue screamed as he invited the boy to join him on stage. Young Charlie warmed the heart of O'Donoghue and the crowd when he pointed at the singer and sang: 'I've never seen anything quite like you tonight.' O'Donoghue returned the favour and said: 'I've never seen anything quite like Charlie tonight.' 'Deadly', beamed O'Donoghue after the boy hit the final note on the singer's piano to bring the Thomond theatre to its feet. 'They're all singing your name, bro,' the frontman said as the crowd chanted: 'Charlie… Charlie… Charlie." O'Donoghue and the band rocked a sun-drenched Limerick with their anthem pop-rock, including hits such as Hall of Fame, The Man Who Can't Be Moved and Superheroes. With Limerick recently used to winning senior hurling All-Irelands - five in the past eight years - The Script concert, at one point, was akin to another All-Ireland Final after-party as the band's light show shrouded fans in green and white during the group's storming Irish rock anthem Paint The Town Green. On a glorious summer night, it all went to script. The Irish Mirror's Crime Writers Michael O'Toole and Paul Healy are writing a new weekly newsletter called Crime Ireland. He was desperate to fit in as many tracks as possible and made every break sparse when speaking to the crowd and made it clear he was just there to give his fans what they wanted — with shouts of 'next' every time he wanted to hurry the set along. By eleventh song Young Hearts the 200,000-plus crowd at the Pyramid Stage were on song, with Rod's first ten tracks appearing to be relatively easy work vocally given how ill he was just seven days ago. Those who've not been lucky enough to catch him on tour yet got to taste the full force of his band - with his brilliant saxophonist stealing the show alongside Rod's six brilliant female singers and string players. The affection and appreciation for Rod feels for his band spilled into my exclusive chat ahead of his set and on stage he made sure this set was just as much theirs as it was his. A quick change into a bright pink suit after If You Want My Body and Rod was ready to go - launching into I Don't Want To Talk About It before inviting my favourite Mick Hucknall on stage to sing If You Don't Know Me By Now before Ronnie Wood came on for Faces hit Stay With Me. Lulu then joined them for Hot Legs - with her saying as she walked off stage: 'Rod Stewart's the man.' Too right he is. During his closing song Sailing, Worthy Farm was swaying in near perfect timing - with many a tad out of rhythm thanks to the soaring heat and booze. Rod however was on song and after taking one final bow on that hallowed stage, turning his back to show his custom-made Celtic shirt, he bid the crowd farewell. They don't make many like Rod. It comes as original member Jonas Bjerre, 48, quit the band after 30 years, with his talent on-show at London's Roundhouse on December 9. The group, who have released eight studio albums, have stated: "In 2025, Mew celebrate 30 years of groundbreaking music with a special farewell tour - marking frontman Jonas Bjerre's final performances. "This tour is a heartfelt thank-you to the fans who have shaped their journey. Advertisement "Don't miss this chance to experience Mew live one last time." Johan then left the band for a period between 2006 and 2013. Advertisement The musician previously released a statement on his band exit. He told fans: "Dearest Frengers. Drummer from metal band rocks out before quitting band "[2025] marks the 30th anniversary of Mew! It's been quite a journey, that's brought me and my lovely band mates on countless adventures, for which I am eternally grateful. "And none of it could have happened if not for you Frengers and your support. This is something I've never taken for granted, and never will. Advertisement "For me, this journey will be coming to an end." He added: "I have come to the realisation that it's time for me personally to embark on a different journey, and focus on other creative projects. "I am so happy that we get to play these farewell shows, and that I get to go on one last trip with my dear friends and co-founders Johan and Silas, as well as the Doc and Mads Wegner." He finished off his message with the words "love Jonas." Advertisement OPENING UP Jonas recently opened up about what he missed the most from when the band first started out three decades ago. In a candid interview he said: "I think one thing I miss about myself is when I was a kid I'd go into a record store and I'd just like put on records from whatever, if the cover was interesting to me or something, there would be room for anything inside of me like no matter what it was I would find something appealing in it almost. "And now I think my mind's a bit more closed off." He added to "That's something I'm working on, exposing myself to more things cause I used to do that all the time. I mean, when I was 14 myself and the guitar player went and watched Eraserhead by David Lynch. Advertisement "It's a long and tough film to watch when you're a kid, but we just sat through it and I think that exposing yourself to things that you might not immediately understand is something that you kind of lose a little bit with age, and I think that's something you gotta keep working at. "Because otherwise your mind will start just closing up." So that's something which we try and do more and more, but as for the band, I think in the beginning the band was just really, everyone was so thrilled that we could make this noise together and when you get older you obviously put bigger demands on your work, it has to be more than that. "So it gets harder and harder to satisfy yourself, musically. That can be tough sometimes, but I think it's a necessary thing if you wanna keep growing and expanding the quality of what you do."
