Participating entities include the Heritage Commission, the Royal Institute of Traditional Arts (Wirath), the Prince Mohammed bin Salman Global Center for Arabic Calligraphy, King Abdulaziz Foundation (Darah), and Harf Saudi Company. Together, they present a vibrant schedule of live cultural activities and interactive displays. A traditional Saudi majlis (sitting area) offers visitors Saudi coffee and dates accompanied by a joint musical performance, reflecting the Kingdom's famed hospitality. Meanwhile, Saudi and Japanese artisans collaborate on live demonstrations of date palm weaving, sadu (a traditional form of weaving), and pottery-making. The Royal Institute of Traditional Arts is also exhibiting hybrid crafts that blend Japanese and Saudi elements, with student-led workshops inviting visitors to try hands-on techniques such as kimono ornamentation and bisht weaving. In parallel, the calligraphy center stages live performances where Saudi and Japanese calligraphers use handmade paper crafted from palm fronds. The King Abdulaziz Foundation is showcasing a photographic timeline of Saudi-Japanese ties, capturing key diplomatic moments and cultural exchange milestones over the past seven decades. Saudi Arabia's pavilion at Expo 2025 will continue to host over 700 cultural events, providing visitors with an immersive experience that showcases the Kingdom's diversity, heritage, and forward-looking transformation agenda. The pavilion also highlights national priorities such as sustainability and Vision 2030 through a range of engaging, multimedia exhibitions.

Saudi and Greek ministers chair inaugural meeting of joint cultural committee
JEDDAH: Saudi Minister of Culture Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan and his Greek counterpart, Lina Mendoni, chaired the inaugural meeting of the Saudi-Greek Strategic Partnership Council's Culture Committee on Wednesday. The ministers said it was important to strengthen cultural cooperation between Riyadh and Athens, and activate a memorandum of understanding they signed in July 2022, the Saudi Press Agency reported. Prince Badr said the committee will help achieve this. The ministers praised the Saudi Cultural Week hosted by Athens from Sept. 27 to Oct. 1, 2024, which showcased musical and theatrical performances, films, traditional crafts, food, Arabic calligraphy and fashion from the Kingdom. Greece participated at Saudi International Crafts Week in Riyadh in November 2024, and the Benaki Museum in Athens is taking part in the Islamic Arts Biennale, which began in January in Jeddah and continues until May. Other senior Saudi and Greek officials present at the committee meeting included Alexis Konstantopoulos, the Greek ambassador to the Kingdom.

Kingdom exhibits rare manuscripts in Doha
RIYADH: The Kingdom's Libraries Commission is showcasing several rare manuscripts outlining the nation's heritage at the ongoing Saudi Cultural Week in Doha. The event, organized by Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Culture in collaboration with its Qatari counterpart, began on Tuesday and will end on Feb. 21. Being held at Darb Al-Saai, it aims to highlight Saudi Arabia's culture and promote international exchange as a part of Vision 2030, the Saudi Press Agency reported. The event also has programs and projects aimed at developing the library sector and enhancing access to knowledge. This participation aligns with the commission's efforts to elevate Saudi Arabia's culture globally, strengthen ties with Qatar, and engage Gulf and international audiences, the SPA report added. The Kingdom's Year of Handicrafts 2025 initiative is being showcased for the first time at the event, with a dedicated corner offering information about the project. Ten skilled Saudi Arabia artisans are displaying traditional arts and handicrafts, including Al-Hasawi Bisht weaving and tailoring (a traditional men's outer cloak), Al-Sadu weaving (a traditional textile), and iqal crafting (a traditional headband). There are several interactive screens illustrating various handicrafts and their unique characteristics. The event also features live culinary demonstrations by five top Saudi Arabia chefs, where visitors can sample authentic dishes from the Kingdom.
