Perth fire victims get £250,000 in council support
Perth and Kinross Council will provide £250,000 to support local residents affected by a fatal fire in Perth earlier this month.A man died and two people - an eight-year-old girl and a 27-year-old man - were taken to hospital after a fire broke out on the corner of Scott Street and South Street in the early hours of Saturday 14 council leader Eric Drysdale said that the internal stairwell of the building had been destroyed during the fire, leaving no other means of escape for said the girl taken to hospital had been seriously injured but was now recovering. Police probing 'suspicious' vehicle fire at Glasgow cash and carry
Police are treating a fire which destroyed three vehicles outside a cash and carry in Glasgow as were called to the Strawberry Garden store on Forth Street in Pollokshields shortly after midnight on store's owners said it had not been damaged in the attack and was open as normal on was injured and a Police Scotland spokesman said inquiries into the incident were ongoing. Fire crews arrived to extinguish the flames but three vans were destroyed by the blaze.A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Around 12:05 on Saturday 21 June, police received a report of three vehicles on fire in the Forth Street area of Glasgow. "The fires were extinguished by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and no injuries were reported. "The incident is being treated as suspicious and inquiries are ongoing." A statement from Strawberry Garden said their vehicles were not targeted in the said "false rumours" had been spread online that the store had also been damaged, but added that was not on Facebook, the store's owners said: "Strawberry Garden Cash and Carry and all our vehicles are safe and untouched. We are open as normal and ready to welcome you."Our thoughts and prayers are with our neighbours, whose vans were sadly set on fire."Thank you for your ongoing support. Busy Edinburgh pavement taped off as fire crews race to West End incident
Edinburgh fire crews blocked off a West End pavement on Thursday evening amid an emergency incident. On June 19, firefighters raced to Morrison Street after being made aware of an electrical fire under the pavement. They were made aware around 6.30pm and are still in attendance. One appliance was sent to the incident. A man has died and an eight-year-old girl has been taken to hospital after a fire at a four-storey building in Scotland. Another man, aged 27, is also being treated following the blaze on the corner of Scott Street and South Street in Perth. Police Scotland has said temporary airspace restrictions are in place across Perth City Centre until 1pm on Wednesday "for security and safety". The fire was reported by officers on patrol in the area at around 1.50am on Saturday. A dozen fire crews were sent out to tackle the blaze and two firefighters were injured - one due to falling masonry. Nearby buildings were evacuated, with around 40 people forced to leave their homes. First Minister John Swinney, who is also the MSP for Perthshire North, said on social media: "Terribly sorry to hear of the death of a man in the fire in Scott Street, Perth and I express my sympathy to his family. "Concerned also for the condition of those who are receiving hospital treatment. "This is a major incident and I am thankful to the emergency services." Andy Girrity, from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, said firefighters found the roof of the four-storey residential building "well alight". "Initially, three appliances were mobilised, but due to the severity of the blaze and structural collapses, a total of twelve appliances were involved at the height of the incident," he added. "Five casualties, including one firefighter injured by falling masonry, were passed into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service. "The incident has now been scaled back, and two appliances and one height vehicle remain on scene to dampen down hotspots."
