Ex-Celtic ace Scott Bain endures nightmare for Falkirk as he ships THREE goals in first half against lower league side
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) HE left Celtic so he could give his son and wife-to-be the chance to watch him play regular first team football. But Scott Bain's family were hopefully absent from this afternoon's friendly between Falkirk and Edinburgh City as he endured a nightmare between the sticks. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 1 Scott Bain is aiming to be Falkirk's No1 this season Credit: Kenny Ramsay Former Celtic goalkeeper Bain, 33, made his Falkirk debut in the Stirlingshire Cup last weekend and kept a clean sheet as the Bairns beat East Stirlingshire 2-0. That was his first outing in over a year after failing to make a single appearance in Brendan Rodgers' team last season. He did feature in pre-season against Queen's Park but his last competitive game for the Hoops came in the final game of the 2023/24 season against St Mirren - replacing Joe Hart in the dying moments of the contest. Bain has made it clear he hopes to change that this year in the Premiership with his new team and manager John McGlynn. But he didn't pain himself in the best light in latest appearance for the Bairns as he shipped THREE goals in one half against a Scottish League Two outfit. Falkirk hosted Edinburgh City and it finished 3-2 after a pretty end-to-end showdown, with the League Two side coming out on top - both in the first half and at full-time. The Bairns found themselves 3-0 down at the interval following an electric start from City. Tiwi Daramola netted a brace with James Stokes scoring as well to take a commanding lead at the break. It was a shock first half showing from the newly-promoted Premiership side after McGlynn named a very strong starting XI. Former Rangers star Scott Arfield started the game and pulled one back following the restart, with Sean Mackie the other goal-scorer for the hosts. Falkirk boss John McGlynn on his one remaining management dream and how his PLUMBING skills were put to use Speaking after sealing his move to Falkirk, Bain outlined his reasons for leaving his Celtic. He said: 'I think I was getting to the age now, where if I stayed on at Celtic for another year, as much as I loved being there and loved the club, I would have been another year older and it would have been harder to get back to playing regular football. 'A big thing for me was for my fiancé and little boy potentially getting the chance to come and watch me play, which will be a different experience for them than it's been for the last couple of years. 'So that was a big factor, as was getting the chance to come to Falkirk and work under the manager and the staff here. 'Seeing how well the club is run, was another big factor in me coming here.' Defender Service joins Edinburgh City
Ambitious Edinburgh City have added another player to their squad ahead of the new Scottish League Two campaign. Defender Jake Service (pictured) has put pen to paper on a deal and the centre-half comes to the Meadowbank club after playing in the Lowland League for The University of Stirling for the last four years. Stranraer-born Service was part of the team which last season played Dundee United in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup at Tannadice in January 2023. United won 3-0 thanks to goals from Aussie full-back Aziz Behich after 45 minutes, Jamie McGrath with an overhead kick after 68 and a lob from Greg Middleton in 81 minutes. The university side won the East of Scotland Cup in season 2023/24 against Edinburgh City and he reunites with former team-mate, James Stokes, who scored the winning goal in that game. An Edinburgh City spokesman confirmed this is the first time that the 23-year-old has played at Scottish Professional Football League level. Like this: Like Related

Lynch resigns for City and has key role
Edin Lynch has signed a new contract with Edinburgh City and the Glasgow-born defender has a new role. The 24-year-old player will take over captaincy of the club from 36-year-old, Edinburgh-born midfielder, Jon Robertson. Last season was Lynch's first with the Meadowbank-based outfit after being part of Stenhousemuir's title winning side in season 2023/24. City have also said that goalkeeper Mark Weir has signed a new contract with the club who finished third Scottish League Two last term, collecting 56 points from their 36 games, nine behind second-placed East Fife and ten adrift of champions, Peterhead. They failed to earn promotion to Scottish League One through the play-offs, winning 1-0 at home to East Fife in the semi-final, first-leg in the Capital but losing 3-0 at Methil in the second-leg. Season tickets are now available and the club have confirmed their Premier Sports Cup fixtures. They open on Saturday, July 12 (3pm) against Partick Thistle in Edinburgh, then they travel to Queen of the South on Tuesday, July 15 (7.45pm). Their next outing is at home to Stranraer on Saturday, July 19 (3pm) and they then play Ross County, recently relegated from the William Hill Premiership, in Dingwall on Tuesday, July 22 (7.45pm). East Kilbride promoted to League Two with victory over Bonnyrigg Rose
East Kilbride won promotion to Scottish League Two for the first time and sent Bonnyrigg Rose down after a 0-0 draw at New Dundas Park saw the visitors triumph 3-1 on aggregate. Bonnyrigg goalkeeper Paddy Martin did well to keep out a Joao Balde strike in the 24th minute, before Aaron Arnott fired over at the other end. Kerr Young was unable to make the most of two chances for the hosts midway through the second half, with one header coming off the crossbar and a second being saved by Chris Truesdale. East Kilbride forward John Robertson subsequently missed with a shot late on as Mick Kennedy's Lowland League champions sealed their ascension and condemned Jonny Stewart's Bonnyrigg to relegation. While the Kilby make a first entry into the SPFL, the Rose drop out after three seasons.
