Three people hospitalised with serious injuries following horror two-car crash
Three people have been rushed to hospital with serious injuries following a two-vehicle road traffic collision in Co Antrim. The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) received a report that a Seat Arona and Honda Civic were involved in a collision near the Ardmore Park junction in the Finaghy Road North area of south Belfast at approximately 1.30pm on Monday afternoon. The driver of the Honda Civic, a man in his 30s, was injured in the collision, as was the other driver, aged in his 70s, and his passenger, a woman in her late 60s. The emergency services were called to the scene and all three individuals were taken to hospital for treatment for their injuries which, at this time, are serious but not believed to be life-threatening. The PSNI has said it is trying to establish "the circumstances leading up to this collision" and is appealing to anyone with any information to contact them. A PSNI spokesperson said: "Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a two-vehicle serious collision in the Finaghy Road North area of south Belfast on Monday afternoon, 14th July. "Around 1.30pm, it was reported that a Seat Arona and Honda Civic were in collision near the Ardmore Park junction. "We are investigating the circumstances leading up to this collision in this residential area. We would appeal to anyone who was in the area, who may have witnessed this or the events leading up to it, to contact us. We are particularly keen to speak to the driver of a third car, possibly white in colour, seen in the area at the time of the collision. "Any dash-cam or doorbell footage covering Finaghy Road North or the surrounding area would also be useful to our enquiries.' The number to call is 101, quoting reference number 850 of 14/07/25. Police have since made an appeal for information in relation to the incident, which occurred on the Finaghy Road North area of the city before 1.30pm. One man, the driver of a Honda Civic, was injured as a result of the Ardmore Park junction crash. The motorist was taken to hospital, along with the driver of a Seat Arona, a man in his 70s, and his passenger, a woman in her late 60s. Police said the injuries are not believed to be life threatening at this point. 'We are investigating the circumstances leading up to this collision in this residential area,' said a spokesperson. 'We would appeal to anyone who was in the area, who may have witnessed this or the events leading up to it, to contact us. Man charged with murder over Co Durham shooting
A man has been charged with murder over the fatal shooting of a 60-year-old grandfather in Co Durham, police say. Barry Dawson died when he was shot through a downstairs front window of his terraced house in Elm Street in Stanley on Saturday afternoon. Durham Constabulary said Kevin Dorward, 38, of Annfield Plain, Co Durham, had been charged with murder while Michaela Hetherington, 35, also of Annfield Plain, had been charged with perverting the course of justice. Both have been remanded in custody and will appear at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates' Court on Thursday. The force said a 21-year-old man had also been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the case, while a 20-year-old man and 49-year-old woman had been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. All three are in police custody, police added. Mr Dawson's family continue to be supported by specialist family liaison officers. In a tribute, Mr Dawson's family described him as a "much-loved father, granddad and partner who will be greatly missed". "We are truly devastated, and his loss will leave an enormous gap in our lives," the family said. A police spokesman said "several lines of inquiry" were being pursued and officers would continue to work in the area "for a significant period of time". They appealed for anyone who had seen a white Seat Arona with the registration NA24 OJK on the Saturday in the Stanley and Annfield Plain area to come forward. Durham Constabulary said it had a 35-strong team of detectives from its major crime team working "around the clock", alongside armed response officers, crime scene examiners, search teams and neighbourhood officers.
