(Photo by Ed Mulholland/Zuffa LLC) Jackson McVey weighed in for UFC 317, but he did not get the opportunity to make his UFC debut on that card. Instead, the unbeaten 26-year-old, who is 6-0 with six first-round stoppage wins, will step in on short notice as an injury replacement on the upcoming UFC 318: Max Holloway vs. Dustin Poirier fight card. McVey was set to make his UFC debut at UFC 317 opposite Sedriques Dumas. However, Dumas, was forced from the card. The man the UFC booked to replace Dumas, Christopher Ewert, was released from the promotion on weigh-in day for the event, when it was revealed that he was 10 pounds over the middleweight limit for the contest. McVey made weight for the event. According to MMA Fighting. McVey picked up the UFC 318 booking when Ikram Aliskerov with drew from his fight opposite Brunno Ferreira because of a broken toe. Ferreira (13-2-0) signed with the UFC in 2022 following a win on the Dana White's Contender Series. He made his UFC debut in January 2023, knocking out Gregory Rodrigues at UFC 283. Ferreira is now 4-2 with the UFC. He is coming off a submission win over Arman Petrosyan in March of this year. McVey is 6-0 as a pro with six first-round finishes. He has three knockouts and three submission wins. McVey's most recent outing was a June 13 knockout win over Mataeo Garner under the LFA banner. UFC 318 takes place on Saturday, July 19 from Smoothie King Center in New Orleans. The main event is a trilogy bout between Max Holloway and Dustin Poirier for Holloway's BMF title. The bout is also scheduled to be Poirier's retirement fight. We will have more on the UFC 318 fight card as fight night nears.

Christopher Ewert botched weight cut scraps Jackson McVey fight at UFC 317, gets him cut

Ewert took fight on just a few days' notice when ankle monitor-wearing Sedriques Dumas was court-ordered to stay home. Certain curtain jerkers just aren't meant to be sometimes. The middleweight fight between Christopher Ewert and Jackson McVey that was set to open up UFC 317 on Saturday has been canceled. Ewert, who took the fight on just a few days' notice, was unable to get close enough to the weight and the bout was scrapped. Weigh-ins emcee Jon Anik announced the news at the start of the UFC 317 official weigh-ins session in Las Vegas – and also took the unusual additional step of announcing Ewert had been immediately cut from the UFC. Announcements of fight cancellations at weigh-ins don't typically come with news of the fighter at fault being released. Ewert (7-0), from Chile, had been on the UFC's radar for a while. He was supposed to fight on Dana White's Contender Series on Aug. 2 vs. Yuri Panferov, but took the UFC 317 spot instead when Dumas (10-3 MMA, 3-3 UFC) pulled out earlier this week because he can't go 100 miles from his house while wearing a court-ordered GPS ankle monitor. In retrospect, that looks like a bad call for Ewert – who apparently may have lost his DWCS opportunity for now, too. McVey (6-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) was set to make his promotional debut. He never has seen the second round with six first-round finishes training under Mike Rogers at St. Charles MMA in Missouri.

Dumas Arrested (Again), This Time For Alleged Home Invasion, Weapons Possession

UFC Middleweight Sedriques Dumas (10-3) is not having a great April. Per online court records, The Florida native was arrested and booked into Escambia County Jail in Florida on five separate charges including felony home invasion robbery without a firearm, misdemeanor battery, felony possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, felony possession of a controlled substance without prescription, and misdemeanor drug equipment possession. Advertisement Currently in custody, Dumas is being held on $558,500 bond. Sadly, this is far from the first time Dumas has run into trouble with the law. It's not even his first time getting arrested as a UFC fighter, as he also faced a 2024 battery charge. In fact, there was already a collection of his previous mugshots circulating around MMA Twitter, though it'll have to be updated. According to Ben Davis, this is Dumas' 15th arrest since 2014. Just a couple weeks ago at UFC 314, Dumas was quickly flattened by Polish power puncher Michal Oleksiejczuk (watch here). His overall UFC record stands at 3-3 with zero finish victories. The promotion has yet to release an official statement, but I would be surprised if his UFC contract lasts another 48 hours. Given his history, the question is how he signed on in the first place and exactly what kind of background checks does the promotion employ. Is the Middleweight division truly so desperate for bodies that Dumas was ever a necessary member of the roster? Advertisement Better fighters have been cut for a lot less. More from
