Woman shot and critically injured in Downtown Peoria, police say

An 18-year-old woman was shot and critically injured Tuesday afternoon in Downtown Peoria. Police were called at about 3:19 p.m. to the 100 block of Southwest Water Street on a report of a female shot, according to Peoria Police Department spokesperson Semone Roth. When officers arrived, they located the victim with an apparent gunshot wound. The woman was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. Those believed to be involved with the shooting are in police custody, and police are not looking for other suspects at this time, according to Roth. PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — Two ski-mask wearing men kicked in the door of an East Bluff home early Sunday, struck the resident in the face and then fired a gun in the air as they were leaving. Officers with the Peoria Police Department went to the 300 block of East Corrington Street just before 4:15 a.m. Sunday after an alert from the ShotSpotter gunfire detection system indicated nine rounds had been fired, said Semone Roth, a departmental spokeswoman. When they arrived, a man walked up to them, saying someone broke into his house in the 2800 block of North Missouri Avenue, which is less than a block away from the ShotSpotter alert, according to Roth. One hospitalized after car crashed into a Peoria church Sunday morning The man told police two unknown men, wearing ski masks, had kicked down his front door and one pointed a gun at him before hitting him with it, she said. The two assailants then left the house and, as they ran away, fired the gun into the air, Roth said. The victim received minor injuries. No one else was injured, she said. No suspect information was given, and no arrests had been made public. Roth did say that there was no report of anything being taken from the home. The incident is still under investigation. PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — A woman was hospitalized after being shot in the foot late Sunday evening. The Peoria Police Department was called at 11:42 p.m. to the 1500 block of South Arago Street to a three-shot alert from the ShotSpotter gunfire detection system, said Semone Roth, a police spokeswoman. When police arrived, they did not find any gunshot victims in at the location. After a search, however, police found a woman at the 2000 block of South Friedan Street with a gunshot wound to the foot. She was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Roth said. Roth said the victim was found about a mile away from where the ShotSpotter alert was registered. The 19-year-old victim suffered serious injuries near North Bootz Avenue and West Hanssler Place, said Peoria police spokeswoman Semone Roth. The ShotSpotter gunfire detection system detected 17 rounds fired, according to Roth. Yellow crime scene tape ringed the area where the shooting occurred. It also blocked traffic. Officers were canvassing the area and asking questions to people in the neighborhood. No suspect information has been released at this time. This incident is currently under investigation. Officers responded to the intersection of West Wilcox Avenue and North Sheridan Road at approximately 11:59 p.m. in response to a ShotSpotter Gunfire Detection System Alert that reported one round was fired, according to Peoria police spokeswoman Semone Roth. UPDATE: Man hospitalized with injuries after Saturday shooting Officers did not find a victim on the scene but did locate a 17-year-old with a gunshot wound to the arm near West Hanssler Place and North Ellis Street. The teen was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The victim told officers that he was approached by two men while walking in the area. One of the men allegedly fired at him before both ran from the scene. Officers searched the area but did not locate the suspects. This incident remains under investigation.
