PSM Agrees To Change Name To Malaysian Sepak Takraw Federation
KUALA LUMPUR, June 29 (Bernama) -- The Sepak Takraw Association of Malaysia (PSM) has agreed to change its name to the Sepak Takraw Federation of Malaysia (Malay acronym remains as PSM) soon. Its president, Datuk Mohd Sumali Reduan said the decision was made at yesterday's Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) after the motion to amend the association's constitution received the support of over two-thirds of the total delegates. He pointed out that the name change would only take effect if the constitution amendment is approved by the Sports Commissioner. bootstrap slideshow 'All amendments to the constitution will take effect after being approved by the Sports Commissioner. Sumali retained the president's post uncontested, Datuk Seri Abdul Puhat Mat Nayan was elected deputy president, and Datuk Abu Jimi Samat (51 votes), Tengku Zaihan Che Ku Abd Rahman (48 votes) and Wan Mohd Husni Abdullah (44 votes) were elected as vice-presidents. -- BERNAMA

The decision was made during an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) yesterday after securing over two-thirds support from delegates for the constitutional amendment. PSM president Datuk Mohd Sumali Reduan stated that the name change will only take effect upon approval by the Sports Commissioner. 'All amendments to the constitution will take effect after being approved by the Sports Commissioner. So we will send the request soon. 'As long as we don't get approval, we can't use it yet,' he said after the Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur. Sumali explained that the rebranding aligns with other sports bodies using 'Federation' in their names. 'Actually, this isn't new, we have discussed it before and many have agreed as it better reflects our role as the country's main administrator of sepak takraw.' The AGM also saw elections for the 2025-2028 term. Sumali retained his presidency unopposed, while Datuk Seri Abdul Puhat Mat Nayan was elected deputy president. The three vice-presidential positions went to Datuk Abu Jimi Samat (51 votes), Tengku Zaihan Che Ku Abd Rahman (48 votes), and Wan Mohd Husni Abdullah (44 votes).

Mohamad Azlan in hot water for ignoring rest order after fracture
NATIONAL sepak takraw right apit (striker) Mohamad Azlan Alias has been issued a show-cause letter after playing for his club, Melaka Titans, in the domestic league despite being advised to rest for two months due to a fractured elbow sustained last month. Sepak Takraw Association of Malaysia (PSM) president Datuk Mohd Sumali Reduan said the letter was sent to both Mohamad Azlan and his club, requiring a response within seven days from yesterday. 'The (fracture) report came from the doctor and the National Sports Institute (ISN), so it must be respected. Mohamad Azlan is needed for bigger tournaments, representing the country at the Thai King's Cup in July and the SEA Games (in December). 'If he's not fully recovered and plays again, risking further injury, he may need a longer recovery period. Who will bear the consequences? He's a national player,' Mohd Sumali said when met at the STL (Sepak Takraw League) 2025 Community Programme at the Taman Mesra sepak takraw court here today. Mohd Sumali said he will personally raise the issue at a meeting to discuss follow-up actions. Mohamad Azlan was confirmed to have suffered a fracture in his left elbow following an incident during the team regu final at the 2025 Asian Sepak Takraw Cup at Titiwangsa Stadium in Kuala Lumpur last month, and was advised to rest for two months. However, the 27-year-old national team main striker was spotted competing for his club in the STL division one recently. 'Everyone is asking why he was playing. This has caused a stir because the mindset is that he's injured and undergoing treatment,' said Mohd Sumali. Meanwhile, today's programme saw STL players, television personalities and local residents come together for a gotong-royong effort, including repainting and upgrading the Taman Mesra sepak takraw court owned by the local residents' association. The court was chosen for its historical significance, having served as a recreational and training hub for the community and producing numerous talented players for over 50 years.

Malaysia sweep into Asian Cup takraw semis after crushing South Korea
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia stormed into the Asian Cup sepak takraw semi-finals in style after thrashing South Korea 3-0 in their final Group B match at the Titiwangsa Stadium on Saturday. The emphatic win confirmed Malaysia's place in the team regu semi-finals as group champions, following earlier victories over Japan and Brunei. Ahmad Jais Baharun's men are expected to face India, Group A runners-up, in the last four, with a potential grudge final against arch-rivals Thailand on Sunday. Malaysia are chasing their first regu team title since the 1991 Manila Sea Games. Malaysia's top regu of Haziq Hairul Nizam, Azlan Alias and Farhan Adam made light work of Korea's Cheon Dong Ryung, Seon Woo Young Su and Oh Dae Yang, winning 15-6, 15-9. The second regu, featuring Syahir Rosdi, Shahalril Aiman Halim and Amirul Azwan Amir, followed up with a 15-6, 15-11 triumph over Seo Seung Beom, Lee Junuk and Kim Young Cheol. The clean sweep was completed by the third regu of Zulkifli Razak, Afifuddin Razali and Aidil Aiman Azwawi, who dispatched Nam Sang Hun, Shin Hee Seop and Kim Jung Man 15-8, 15-7. National head coach Ahmad Jais was pleased with the performance and urged his team to keep the momentum going. "We saw clear improvement from our players today. The 22-year-old suffered complications before the match against Japan on Friday and was rushed to hospital. He has since undergone minor surgery and has been replaced by Noraizat Nordin. "I had the chance to speak to Khairul Aman after his surgery. He's still in hospital and will not feature in the remaining matches," said Sepak Takraw Association of Malaysia president Datuk Sumali Reduan in a social media post.
