This Is the Only Concealer That Covers My Blemishes Without Causing New Ones
Anyone with acne-prone or sensitive skin knows the struggle: you find a concealer that covers just right, only to discover it's making your skin worse. Whether it's new breakouts, clogged pores, or overall irritation, traditional full-coverage formulas can be a double-edged sword. However, thanks to non-comedogenic concealers, that vicious breakout cycle can finally come to an end—or at least a long pause. Designed to provide coverage without suffocating your skin, these formulas are free of pore-clogging ingredients and often include skin-soothing benefits. 'For anyone prone to breakouts or with sensitive skin, that's huge,' says celebrity makeup artist Lisa Aharon. Even better, they allow your skin to breathe while still providing coverage where you need it. Investing in products with those skin-loving ingredients is 'especially important when it comes to complexion products like concealer, since it sits right on the areas you might be trying to cover, such as blemishes or redness.' The best part? Non-comedogenic concealers come in all different shapes and sizes. No-makeup-makeup lovers fawn over sheer, serum-like tints, while full glam girls can't get enough of the high-coverage concealers packed with nourishing ingredients. No matter your makeup style, there's an anti-clogging formula calling your name. Fortunately, the non-comedogenic market is rapidly growing. Unfortunately, it's become quite hard to choose which one is right for you. So, I tested the latest launches and cult-favorites, tapping renowned artists like Aharon, and read through countless customer reviews. Ahead, shop the 10 best non-comedogenic concealers for smooth, skin-loving coverage every time. For years, editors, experts, and influencers have been raving about the Hourglass Vanish Airbrush Concealer for its high-coverage finish, blurring power, and long-wearing, waterproof formula. But did you know it's non-comedogenic? No wonder it feels so lightweight! Coverage: Full Shades: 32 Nordstrom rating: 4.5/5 An ELLE editor says: 'I have been hearing about this concealer for decades, but for some reason it took me until this year to finally join the bandwagon and give it a go. As an acne-prone, sensitive-skin, full-coverage-loving girl, I can confidently call this my dream concealer. It not only covers but blurs my blemishes and dark circles, all without clogging a single pore.'—Emma Aerin Becker, associate beauty e-commerce writer A favorite of Aharon's, the Tower 28 Swipe All-Over Hydrating Serum Concealer is perfect for everyday wear. Not only does it blend like magic, it has the texture and ingredients of a hydrating serum but delivers the look of a medium-coverage concealer. 'It's formulated for sensitive skin and free from fragrance and alcohol, in addition to being non-comedogenic,' Aharon says. Coverage: Light-to-medium Shades: 20 Sephora rating: 4.3/5A Sephora reviewer says: 'I absolutely love this concealer! It goes on so smoothly! This concealer is also great for my sensitive skin. Highly recommend this product!' This concealer is long-wearing, blurring, and brightening with medium-buildable coverage. Plus, it's packed with niacinamide, fermented arnica, and hyaluronic acid to promote a hydrated, healthy-looking complexion. Quite the multitasker, it even depuffs your under-eyes after two weeks of daily use. Coverage: Medium Shades: 31 Sephora rating: 4/5A Sephora reviewer says: 'Amazing concealer that goes on the skin like butter! Feels very light, melts into the skin, and doesn't exaggerate any dry spots (which is a big issue for my skin). This is my favorite product I put on my face, and I have yet to find another concealer to rival this one!!' The Lancôme Teint Idôle Ultra Wear All Over Concealer is another go-to for Aharon. She loves the 'natural, polished finish that still feels breathable and doesn't settle into lines.' Infused with skin-loving ingredients, it also provides up to 24 hours of hydration. Nordstrom rating: 4.6/5 A Nordstrom reviewer says: 'This concealer has been a game changer. I am 56 years old and starting to get some under eye fine lines—dare I say wrinkles—and this is the first concealer I've used that doesn't crease or wear off. I love it! It is a must have!' The Nars Soft Matte Concealer is 'velvety, long-wearing, and gives great spot coverage without heaviness,' says Aharon. It's an industry favorite for spot concealing in a pinch without making breakouts and redness worse, thanks to peptides, hyaluronic acid, and a mix of vitamins A, C, and E. Shades: 30Nordstrom rating: 4.6/5 An ELLE editor says: 'When I have a breakout I need to cover, I always lean on my Nars Soft Matte Concealer. I simply dip a small brush into the pot (a little goes a long way) and pat it onto each blemish. They practically disappear in seconds. It's super long-wearing, lightweight, and I love knowing it isn't making my skin worse.'—Emma Aerin Becker For a waterproof, full-coverage formula, the Dior Backstage Concealer is surprisingly thin and lightweight. The tiny brush applicator makes precise application a breeze, while micro-pigments visibly blur imperfections and brighten complexion. Shades: 22 Sephora rating: 4.3/5 A Sephora reviewer says: 'So good. Coverage is amazing and blendable. Stays on all day! Highly recommend. If you are middle-aged or have wrinkles, this is an approved makeup item!' Not everyone with acne-prone skin wants a high-coverage formula. Enter the Refy Concealer—it's hydrating, brightening, and boasts a light, serum-like texture. Coverage: Light Shades: 24 Sephora rating: 4.4/5A Sephora reviewer says: 'It is definitely not a full coverage concealer and that's exactly what I was looking for. This lightweight concealer, brightens and blurs and doesn't get patchy or cakey' Enriched with vitamin C and mastic—an ingredient known to have anti-bacterial properties—the Ilia True Skin Serum Concealer helps firm, nourish, and refine your skin while you wear it. The lightweight formula provides medium coverage but feels like skin care. Nordstrom rating: 4.5/5A Nordstrom reviewer says: 'I'm telling you this is a game changer. I have tried every concealer, and this is so radiant with a medium coverage and very hydrating. I have three different shades. One to cover up blemishes, one lighter color for under eyes, and a dark for contour. It is AMAZING.' Finding a non-comedogenic concealer doesn't have to break the bank. The e.l.f. Hydrating Camo Concealer is long-wearing, crease-proof, and still lightweight—all for the price of a latte. Shades: 25 Ulta rating: 4.3/5 An Ulta reviewer says: 'My favorite concealer because it's so cheap compared to others, and it lasts all day for me. I have oily skin and I use this concealer with a moisturizer, primer, and setting powder, and it lasts perfectly all day. Definitely buildable and easy to use. Love and recommend!' Aharon calls this concealer the definition of 'skin care-meets-makeup.' It's hydrating, brightening, and 'so effortless under the eyes.' The serum-like formula is infused with a variety of skin care ingredients, such as caffeine, hyaluronic acid, peptides, and arnica. Shades: 38 Sephora rating: 3.9/5 A Sephora reviewer says: 'Kosas' concealer is the only concealer that doesn't crease and leaves my skin hydrated all day. It's super hydrating but not to the point where it's oily. Definitely one of my makeup holy grails!' Non-comedogenic products all come down to the formula. 'A non-comedogenic concealer avoids certain oils and ingredients that are known to trigger congestion or clog pores,' says Aharon. It's important to look for oil-free, fragrance-free, and alcohol-free formulas. You can also check for soothing actives like hyaluronic acid or centella. 'Also test the feel,' Aharon adds. 'If it's too thick or heavy, even a non-comedogenic product can feel pore-suffocating.' Absolutely! You don't have to sacrifice coverage for skin care. Many modern formulas deliver medium to high coverage while staying breathable and gentle. Lisa Aharon is a celebrity makeup artist based in New York. Boots shoppers say this £10 'firming' cream is an 'alternative to Botox'
"Amazing!!! Completely makes my skin glow and I look younger! What more could you want?!" It's officially £10 Tuesday for Boots shoppers today (July 22). That means beauty fans can save big on some top-rated products - but for one day only. For those who want to get younger looking skin without going under the knife, one product that is worth adding to the online shopping cart is the Olay Regenerist Day Face Cream & Serum 2-in-1. Billed as "an alternative to Botox", this dual-action product would usually set shoppers back £30 for a 50ml, but since it is included in the retailer's flash-sale, they can save an impressive £20. Looking to cut back on multiple skincare steps? Then this multi-tasking formula combines the benefits of a day cream and serum in one, leaving skin "instantly hydrated for 24 hours." Designed to firm, renew and hydrate, it uses the brand's Microsculpting Technology that is packed with "powerful" peptides and 99 percent pure niacinamide to penetrate 10 layers deep, reducing deep wrinkles and fine lines. It also uses glycerin, a hydrating ingredient that can help the skin to retain moisture, with 97 percent of users saying they had "smoother feeling skin in just one day." Skincare enthusiasts looking for a similar dual-action product that targets dull-looking skin can alternatively check out Garnier SkinActive Vitamin C 2in1 Brightening Serum Cream SPF 25 (50ml), just £14 at Sainsbury's. As for double the wrinkle-busting benefits, the L'Oréal Paris Serum Le Duo (30ml), £38 on Amazon, uses two different serums, one with a collagen peptide booster, the other with vitamins B3 and C, to reverse the signs of ageing by "five years." Nevertheless, Olay's 2-in-1 Face Cream and Serum has earned an impressive 4.5 rating based on 419 Boots reviews that praise "firming" formula that has made them "look younger." One five-star review read: "I have been using Olay Regenerist Serum for years! I'm not sure if it can reduce wrinkles? But using it daily has certainly helped to protect my skin in the aging process! (I'm now 63, looking a decade younger). Definitely an alternative to Botox, which has worked for me! Thank You OLAY!!" Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! A second read: "I love this product, it feels so good on the skin and has definitely firmed up the skin around my jaw line, it's fantastic. It has also reduced the look of my lines, a 'magic' serum in my books!" Someone else praised: "After four days of using the sample my skin felt silky and smooth. My wrinkles were noticeably softer. This product has a refreshing smell and makes you look & feel great - I would definitely recommend and continue to use." Beauty deal of the week YSL Black Opium remains an iconic perfume - and we know where to bag the newest edition for its cheapest price. The YSL BLack Opium Le Parfum offers a more vanilla-heavy fragrance that has been hailed as "intoxicating" in reviews, with a 50ml now half-price at Boots after being dropped from £115 to £57.50. Massive saving aside, it's the cheapest it can be bought for at the moment, as rival retailers Superdrug, Lookfantastic and The Perfume Shop still stock it at full-price. This interpretation of the iconic perfume was only launched in 2022, with its original floral gourmand fragrance still offering its famed notes that include pear accord, green mandarin, orange flower petals, jasmine sambac and cinnamon. However, the iconic coffee accord has been twisted with four different, yet still complimentary, notes of vanilla, which is said to be its most important ingredient, to create an "unexpected smoothness, with uncompromising intensity." Meanwhile, the unique glossy bottle that has been crafted from a precious black stone, with its dazzling glitter emblem at the heart, eludes to the luxuriousness of the fragrance contained within. As for the YSL Black Opium Le Parfum, Boots shoppers wanting to take advantage of the half-price discount will be glad to hear it has amassed a 4.7 rating from thousands of customers who say it "lasts all day" and "literally turns heads" when it is worn. One five-star review read: "I love the fragrance. I used a lot the first time, not realising how intense it was. It lasts all day and continues to smell great. I literally turn heads when I wear it." Don't miss Boots' half-price discount on the YSL Black Opium Le Parfum (50ml) that is now £57.50, down from £115. The "rich" texture of the cream has been a drawback for some skin types, as one two-star review read: "Although this felt nice and moisturising on application, the following day it felt greasy and left my skin with small cream filled spots. Too rich for my skin." Comparatively, someone who didn't have an issue with the texture said: "A product with a result. My skin looks brighter, cleaner and clearer. Non-greasy, easily absorbed and you need to use only two drops. A winner."

Why MP High Court ordered a cartoonist to be arrested for lampooning Modi and RSS
On July 3, Justice Subodh Abhyankar of the Madhya Pradesh High Court, while rejecting the anticipatory bail application of Indore-based political cartoonist Hemant Malviya, instead ordered that he be arrested by the police. His supposed crime? Drawing a cartoon about Narendra Modi and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh which, Abhyankar claimed, 'overstep[ed] the threshold of freedom of speech and expression'. Malviya had been booked by the Indore police in May for the cartoon he had published on his Facebook page – which he has since deleted. What are ramifications of this order for India's political cartoonists? A cartoon on Modi Malviya had published his original cartoon on January 6, 2021, depicting Modi as a doctor administering an injection to a man dressed in what may appear to some as the uniform of the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh. This is accompanied with the Hindi caption 'Abe kayko ghabra riya hai? Serum ke Poonawala ne bataya to vaccine me to paani hi hai, ab paani ke side effect se tu koi marega thode hi!' (Why are you worried? Serum's Poonawala has said that the vaccine only has water, you won't die from the side effect of water!) This was a reference to Serum Institute of India's chief executive Adar Poonawalla alleging that many Covid vaccines in the market were only as effective as water. According to the court order, another Facebook user republished this cartoon, but replaced the caption with one that in which the man in the purported RSS uniform addresses Modi as an incarnation of the Hindu deity Shiva and asks to be injected with such a strong dose of the caste census in his buttocks so that he forgets the Pahalgam terror attack, the controversial Waqf Act and everything else. Malviya shared this amended version of his cartoon on Facebook on May 1, writing that anyone could use any of his cartoons by writing their own names and caption. All his cartoons were for the public, by the public and dedicated to the public, he said. He added that this amended cartoon was shared with him by a friend and that whoever had created the caption had written well. FIR for a joke On the basis of the cartoon with the amended caption, lawyer and RSS activist Vinay Joshi filed a complaint with the Indore police against Malviya on May 21 for showing Modi and the RSS 'in an undignified manner, offending the complainant's religious fervour and temperament and also hurting his religious sentiments', according to the court. The police booked Malviya under Sections 196, 299, 302, 352 and 353(3) of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 67A of the Information Technology Act. Section 196 of the Sanhita criminalises the promotion of enmity between different social groups or disturbing harmony among such groups. It provides for imprisonment of up to three years. Sections 299 makes it an offence to deliberately and maliciously outrage the religious feelings of any class of Indian citizens. It also provides for imprisonment of up to three years. Similarly, section 302 punishes the wounding of someone's religious feelings with imprisonment up to a year. Section 352 deals with the insulting of a person to provoke them to breach public peace. It carries a sentence of up to two years' imprisonment. Section 353(3) prohibits the spreading of such false information, rumours or alarming news at a place of worship or a religious assembly that is likely to create disharmony among social groups. It carries imprisonment of up to five years. Section 67A of the act penalises the publication of sexually explicit material online with imprisonment up to five years and a fine of up to Rs ten lakh. 'Misuse of freedom of speech' Within days of the first information report being registered against him, Malviya's plea for anticipatory bail was rejected by the Indore district court. He then approached the Madhya Pradesh High Court. He argued before the High Court that while he had drawn the cartoon, the caption in the cartoon under scrutiny was not his, so he could not be held responsible for it. However, in his order, Justice Subodh Abhyankar noted that the cartoon showed the RSS in human form, along with Modi, since the man was dressed in the RSS uniform. He went on to hold that the depiction of the RSS, 'a Hindu organisation' along with Prime Minister Modi, along with Malviya's 'endorsement of a rather demeaning remark, dragging unnecessarily the name of lord Shiva' amounted to the 'sheer misuse of the freedom of speech and expression'. Hence, even though Malviya's own cartoon had no mention of Shiva, the court took a dim view of what it saw as Malviya's 'endorsement' of the caption invoking the deity. 'It is apparent that the applicant's aforesaid act is deliberate and malicious intended to outrage religious feelings of the complainant and the public at large by insulting its religion, which is prejudicial to the maintenance of harmony in the society,' the court concluded. This is unusual for an order rejecting an anticipatory bail application. In such pleas, the court's task is restricted to determining the seriousness of the offence, the gravity of the accusation, the accused's criminal record and their likelihood of absconding or tampering with evidence. However, in its order, the court went a step ahead and essentially held Malviya prima facie guilty of the offences he is accused of. On the basis of this conclusion, the court held that Section 41 (1)(b)(i) and (ii) of the Code of Criminal Procedure are attracted. This provision allows the police to arrest someone without a warrant. Then, to remove all doubt, the court noted that 'custodial interrogation of the applicant would be necessary'. As of July 9, Malviya was yet to be arrested. 'Never felt such censorship in pre-Modi years' Political cartoonists throughout the history of independent India have faced censorship pressures from governments. However, a High Court ordering the arrest of a cartoonist represents a new low. Cartoonist Satish Acharya expressed concern about the precedent set by the order. 'This order sets an example which will be grossly misused going forward,' he told Scroll. 'This could be misused against not just cartoonists, but also against satirists, comedians and journalists.' Cartoonist Manjul, who has himself faced government clamp-downs for his cartoons, agreed. 'It is scary for everybody,' he said. 'This is a threat to all free voices.' Manjul questioned the need for Malviya to be interrogated in custody. 'What will the police do, beat him up and ask him why he drew this?' he asked. 'What about the 'bail is the rule, jail is the exception' mantra?' He noted how the role of the judiciary had changed in the past decade by comparing Malviya's case with the Bombay High Court's famous defence of a cartoonist's right to free speech in 2015. At the time, the High Court had criticised the booking of cartoonist Aseem Trivedi under the sedition provision of the Indian Penal Code for cartoons highlighting public corruption. The court had defended cartoons as a form of expression with an element of humour and sarcasm. 'In Aseem Trivedi's case, the court reprimanded the state,' Manjul remarked. 'In this case, the court is echoing the state's stance and asking for custodial interrogation.' Both Manjul and Acharya highlighted a perceived climate of fear after the Bharatiya Janata Party government came to power in 2014, leading to increasing censorship and self-censorship among artists. Acharya said that censorship had been occurring at several levels since 2014, 'not just at publications, but also on social media and in society'. He added: 'Any attempt to troll, harass and threaten by online trolls and to snatch jobs and remove cartoons by editors and powerful politicians is a form of censorship.' Manjul was even more blunt, likening the present situation to 'an undeclared emergency'. 'Show me a single widely circulated mainstream newspaper carrying government ads that also carries cartoons with Modi's face,' he said. He pointed out that the Tamil news website Ananda Vikatan was blocked in February after it published a cartoon depicting Modi, with his hands and legs chained, sitting across from United States President Donald Trump. 'I never felt such censorship in the pre-Modi years,' he said. 'Even during the Vajpayee years, which was also an NDA [National Democratic Alliance] government, cartoonists had freedom to draw cartoons of political leaders, including the prime minister, without any pressure.'
