Boots shoppers say this £10 'firming' cream is an 'alternative to Botox'

Daily Record2 days ago
"Amazing!!! Completely makes my skin glow and I look younger! What more could you want?!"
It's officially £10 Tuesday for Boots shoppers today (July 22). That means beauty fans can save big on some top-rated products - but for one day only.
For those who want to get younger looking skin without going under the knife, one product that is worth adding to the online shopping cart is the Olay Regenerist Day Face Cream & Serum 2-in-1.
Billed as "an alternative to Botox", this dual-action product would usually set shoppers back £30 for a 50ml, but since it is included in the retailer's flash-sale, they can save an impressive £20.
Looking to cut back on multiple skincare steps? Then this multi-tasking formula combines the benefits of a day cream and serum in one, leaving skin "instantly hydrated for 24 hours."
Designed to firm, renew and hydrate, it uses the brand's Microsculpting Technology that is packed with "powerful" peptides and 99 percent pure niacinamide to penetrate 10 layers deep, reducing deep wrinkles and fine lines.
It also uses glycerin, a hydrating ingredient that can help the skin to retain moisture, with 97 percent of users saying they had "smoother feeling skin in just one day."
Skincare enthusiasts looking for a similar dual-action product that targets dull-looking skin can alternatively check out Garnier SkinActive Vitamin C 2in1 Brightening Serum Cream SPF 25 (50ml), just £14 at Sainsbury's.
As for double the wrinkle-busting benefits, the L'Oréal Paris Serum Le Duo (30ml), £38 on Amazon, uses two different serums, one with a collagen peptide booster, the other with vitamins B3 and C, to reverse the signs of ageing by "five years."
Nevertheless, Olay's 2-in-1 Face Cream and Serum has earned an impressive 4.5 rating based on 419 Boots reviews that praise "firming" formula that has made them "look younger."
One five-star review read: "I have been using Olay Regenerist Serum for years! I'm not sure if it can reduce wrinkles? But using it daily has certainly helped to protect my skin in the aging process! (I'm now 63, looking a decade younger). Definitely an alternative to Botox, which has worked for me! Thank You OLAY!!"

A second read: "I love this product, it feels so good on the skin and has definitely firmed up the skin around my jaw line, it's fantastic. It has also reduced the look of my lines, a 'magic' serum in my books!"
Someone else praised: "After four days of using the sample my skin felt silky and smooth. My wrinkles were noticeably softer. This product has a refreshing smell and makes you look & feel great - I would definitely recommend and continue to use."
Beauty deal of the week
YSL Black Opium remains an iconic perfume - and we know where to bag the newest edition for its cheapest price.
The YSL BLack Opium Le Parfum offers a more vanilla-heavy fragrance that has been hailed as "intoxicating" in reviews, with a 50ml now half-price at Boots after being dropped from £115 to £57.50.
Massive saving aside, it's the cheapest it can be bought for at the moment, as rival retailers Superdrug, Lookfantastic and The Perfume Shop still stock it at full-price.
This interpretation of the iconic perfume was only launched in 2022, with its original floral gourmand fragrance still offering its famed notes that include pear accord, green mandarin, orange flower petals, jasmine sambac and cinnamon.
However, the iconic coffee accord has been twisted with four different, yet still complimentary, notes of vanilla, which is said to be its most important ingredient, to create an "unexpected smoothness, with uncompromising intensity."
Meanwhile, the unique glossy bottle that has been crafted from a precious black stone, with its dazzling glitter emblem at the heart, eludes to the luxuriousness of the fragrance contained within.
As for the YSL Black Opium Le Parfum, Boots shoppers wanting to take advantage of the half-price discount will be glad to hear it has amassed a 4.7 rating from thousands of customers who say it "lasts all day" and "literally turns heads" when it is worn.
One five-star review read: "I love the fragrance. I used a lot the first time, not realising how intense it was. It lasts all day and continues to smell great. I literally turn heads when I wear it."
Don't miss Boots' half-price discount on the YSL Black Opium Le Parfum (50ml) that is now £57.50, down from £115.
The "rich" texture of the cream has been a drawback for some skin types, as one two-star review read: "Although this felt nice and moisturising on application, the following day it felt greasy and left my skin with small cream filled spots. Too rich for my skin."
Comparatively, someone who didn't have an issue with the texture said: "A product with a result. My skin looks brighter, cleaner and clearer. Non-greasy, easily absorbed and you need to use only two drops. A winner."

Hulk Hogan's sad health update just weeks before death aged 71

Hulk Hogan's spokesperson was forced to shut down claims the WWE legend was gravely ill, just weeks before it was announced he had died aged 71. Wrestling star Hulk Hogan's team were forced to deny speculation he was seriously ill just weeks before his shock death. ‌ The WWE legend has died aged 71 after suffering a cardiac arrest, it has now been confirmed. ‌ Back in May, Hogan underwent minor surgert for a "little fusion procedure" on his neck, sparking a major speculation online. One YouTuber even claimed sources had told him things were "not looking good" for the icon. ‌ But Hogan's team hit back, insisting the claims untrue. A spokesperson for the Hulkster slammed the speculation, saying his surgery had been "successful" and there were "no reasons to panic". Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! They went on to add that: "He just needs from time to time a medical check up." ‌ Despite this, reports continued to swirl, with some even claiming Hogan had undergone "pretty serious heart surgery" but this was rubbished by his representative, who insisted the star didn't "have any heart problems". In the days leading up to his death, worrying reports emerged suggesting the he had been "unable to speak" and was being closely monitored at his Florida home. The WWE Hall of Fame star - who was admitted to hospital last month - was said to have been transferred home from hospital following an adverse reaction to neck surgery. ‌ Former manager and longtime pal Jimmy Hart is understood to have said that Hogan was unable to talk. YouTuber Bubba the Love Sponge said: "Here's what I got from my security guard: [ Hulk Hogan ] was transported to his house, but he's in a hospital bed. They've gone as far as they can go at the hospital now. They're keeping him comfortable. "If you're hooked up to two machines and you're just laying there and you could have your own doctor show up at your house because you have so much money. He's not in such dire needs that he needs to be in close proximity to emergency facility. Like he's stable enough to be at home." ‌ Bubba added: "But rather than just be sitting here getting bed sores and muscle atrophy at Morton Plant [Hospital in Clearwater], I can at least be home, get doctors and nurses to swing by my place to continue to check up on me. But I've been told that that's where he's at. "And the security guard said the measures that they went to make sure nobody saw him transported in an ambulance to his home was like Michael Jackson type stuff. My source says allegedly it was all done through like the loading docks with unmarked ambulances followed by an escort, then followed by backed up to the house with the garage door open. "That happened in the middle of the night." Over the years, Hulk had suffered various health issues and undergone multiple operations on his back, hips, and had shoulder replacements. Speaking in September 2024, he said: "I've had like 25 surgeries in the last ten years. 10 of them were back surgeries." He went on to tell Jake Paul on the Impaulsive podcast: "I've had 10 back surgeries, both knees and both hips replaced, shoulders — everything."

The 'miracle in a bottle' Nivea anti-wrinkle serum is said to 'reverse skin age in two weeks'

This anti-ageing serum has been crafted with a break-through ingredient after 15 years of scientific research. The world of anti-ageing skincare is packed with lotions and potions. More choice is a bit of a double-edged sword, as that means it can be hard to find one that actually works. However, it looks like Nivea has cracked the secret to "youthful, plumped" skin with its Cellular Epigenetics Age Rewind Face Serum that costs £34.99 for a 30ml on Amazon and Boots. Formulated after 15 years of research, this serum has been crafted with break-through ingredient Epicelline, an ingredient in epigenetics science that is said to "rewind skin age in two weeks." It does so by 'reactivating' older skin cells' youth functions through patented age technology, making them act more like the younger versions of themselves, leading to a "100 percent proven more youthful appearance." That's not all, it also contains three types of hyaluronic acid to help hydrate the skin, targeting 10 signs of ageing including wrinkles, firmness, radiance, moisture, elasticity and plumpness. It's not the only product backed by science, as Boots No7 Future Renew Serum boasts the world's first peptide technology to "reverse" the signs of ageing, with a 50ml costing £47.95. Another powerful, yet proven to work, product on the market is Medik8's Crystal Retinal range that is priced from £45. Using the brand's patented vitamin A derivative, it is said to act "11 times faster" than regular retinol. As for the Nivea Epigenetics Serum, it doesn't currently have any reviews on Amazon, but we have spotted it with two five-star reviews on the Boots website. One shopper said: "I very rarely leave a review but this is a miracle in a bottle. I am over 50 and have tried many many lotions and potions to help with ageing and over the years I've spent a lot. "But this little bottle is amazing. I have literally used it 3 days so far and I can see a noticeable difference. This is now my new go to serum. Amazing." The second read: "Absolutely love this product and the texture when applying it onto the skin. It is super lightweight and leaves my skin feeling plump and hydrated after the first use. I am excited to see further results as I continue to use the product." While we haven't spotted any negative reviews, it is worth noting that, unlike a few other Amazon purchases, it is not available for next day delivery, with purchases taking a couple of days to arrive. On Trustpilot, quite a few beauty enthusiasts have more mixed opinions on the skincare brand in general. One shopper who left a three-star review did urge the firm to "revise" its range of products. They added: "They didn't help me to moisturise my face even if it's states that the cream is moisturising, lol. Nevertheless, I should pay homage to this company as it has a vast line of different products." Meanwhile, a few others did leave the company quite a few negative comments, with stating "formula changes" to their favourite products, such as the Nivea Crème, and customer service as reasons for their feedback. Doctors warn of 'risk of death' from penis Botox and filler injections

Health professionals have warned of the potentially lethal danger of penis Botox and filler injections amid an increase in men seeking procedures in Scotland. Medics have warned of a 'growing number' of unregulated 'pop-up' clinics offering men treatments for erectile dysfunction or to increase the size of their genitals. The procedures see Botox, which relaxes muscles, or fillers, which can increase size, injected into the patient's penis. Botched cases have resulted in men having their pensies amputated, a doctor has told STV News. Medics warned of pop-up clinics with unlicensed practitioners operating outside the bounds of medical safety, using unapproved treatments and deceptive social media marketing tactics. 'Lifelong problems' Dr Ben Taylor-Davies, who runs the Stockbridge Clinic in Edinburgh and also works as an A&E doctor, said the procedures, even when carried out by an experienced surgeon, carry risks including necrosis or death. 'These are not treatments I'd ever recommend any patient undertake and if they were considering them, seeing an experienced urological surgeon would be vital', he told STV News. 'This is the latest example of why urgent regulation of the surgical and non-surgical aesthetics industry is needed in order to protect the public from harm. 'There are a number of significant risks involved with injections to this region, including infection, allergy, necrosis (dying of tissue) and even death.' Dr Darren McKeown, a plastic surgeon, told STV News that providers on social media platforms such as TikTok are taking advantage of 'common insecurities'. 'Penis size is a concern for many men', he said. 'Research shows that most men underestimate the size of their penis and worry that it is smaller than it is. It's a very common insecurity. 'Unfortunately, there are a growing number of clinics popping up offering quick fixes by injecting fillers into the penis to make it thicker. Some are even injecting Botox to make the penis hang lower when flaccid.' Dr McKeown has warned that while the procedures may seem 'logical and straightforward', they can cause lifelong problems. 'There are many videos on social media, particularly TikTok that make this look like a quick and easy fix, but the reality is very different' Dr Darren McKeown He has even warned of rare cases where men have had to have their genitals amputated. 'They are plagued with problems, including infections, product reactions, and lumps, and many men are left desperately embarrassed and in need of corrective surgery', he added. 'Even after corrective surgery, however, some men can be left with lifelong problems, and in rare cases, some have even needed to have their penis amputated. 'I would strongly urge any man considering cosmetic procedures to see a specialist urological surgeon for advice. 'Most urologists advise against these types of procedures because of the high risk of complications and the poor chances of patient satisfaction. You should not be treated in a pop-up clinic and you should not be treated by someone who is not a specialist, or worse still, someone with no medical qualifications whatsoever. 'There are many videos on social media, particularly TikTok, that make this look like a quick and easy fix, but the reality is very different, and by the time many men are finding this out, it's too late, and they have to live with life-changing injuries.' 'Seek a professional' It is not the first dangerous trend offered by unregulated pop-up clinics offering cosmetic procedures. In May last year, a woman had to be taken to hospital after undergoing a Brazilian Butt Lift in a Glasgow hotel. Thousands of pounds of unlicensed and unprescribed products used in cosmetic injections were seized by authorities from a warehouse in the city in a separate incident. Healthcare professionals previously warned that Scotland was becoming the 'worst country in Europe' for unqualified beauticians injecting customers with cosmetic treatments due to the lack of legislation preventing anyone from advertising on social media offering beauty treatments. Currently in Scotland, under-18s are not banned from receiving these treatments, unlike in England, where stricter regulations have been implemented. Last month, the Scottish Government revealed proposals to crack down on 'cowboy' Botox, fillers and cosmetic surgery procedures. The plans mean dermal fillers and the use of Botox will have to be supervised by a qualified healthcare professional, while 'breast and buttock augmentations' must be carried out by a qualified professional. Improvements in the safety and standards in the non-surgical cosmetic procedures sector have been set out, with a minimum age of 18 to be introduced for all procedures. Healthcare Improvement Scotland has urged anyone seeking cosmetic procedures to put 'their care into the hands of professionals'. 'Private clinics provided by doctors, nurses, pharmacists, dental care professionals, midwives or pharmacy technicians are required to be registered with our organisation,' a spokesperson said. There are over 500 registered and regulated clinics across Scotland, the vast majority providing cosmetic procedures. We do not regulate on the basis of particular treatments. 'Having a cosmetic treatment is a serious undertaking that should only be entered into with due consideration of the very real risks to an individual's health and safety. 'We would urge anyone looking to get cosmetic interventions to think about their health and wellbeing, and put their care into the hands of professionals with appropriate training and experience, and where they can trust them to make their wellbeing a priority. 'People should always check that a clinic is registered with Healthcare Improvement Scotland before undertaking treatments.' The Scottish Government has been contacted for comment.
