Judge reduces bail for Memphis guard Sincere Parker in domestic assault case
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Memphis guard Sincere Parker's bail was cut nearly in half Monday, two days after he was charged with assaulting his ex-girlfriend. Shelby County General Sessions Criminal Court Judge Greg Gilbert reduced Parker's bail from $120,000 to $75,000. Parker's attorney, Arthur Horne, told reporters that the bond had been posted. Parker is due back in court on July 29. He must remain at least 100 feet from his ex-girlfriend. She told police that the attack occurred on May 27 at the Memphis apartment the couple shared. She reported that Parker pushed her, slapped her in the face and choked her, leaving her bruised and bloodied, according to a police report. The woman also told police that Parker, 23, broke her cellphone because he didn't want her to have the digital key to the apartment. Horne told reporters that the incident was captured on a video call between Parker and his mother, 'which is fortunate for us and fortunate for our defense.' 'We plan on fighting this,' Horne said. 'This has been a long, ongoing saga between him and the ex-girlfriend. I just hope the public will give us time to sort through it so the whole story does come out because there are two sides to this. Right now, it looks like my client, Mr. Parker, is a woman-abuser, and that's not the case.' Horne said he believed the Memphis athletic department is waiting to see how the case unfolds before deciding whether to take action. Parker transferred to Memphis after averaging 12.2 points last season for McNeese, helping the Cowboys and coach Will Wade reach the second round of the NCAA Tournament. He played his first two seasons for Saint Louis. ___

Public health official charged with taking RM3,000 bribe

He claimed trial to the charge. – BERNAMApic JOHOR BARU: An assistant environmental health officer has claimed trial to a charge of accepting a RM3,000 bribe last year. Mohd Azrul Nazwan A Rani, 42, entered a plea of not guilty before Sessions judge Datuk Ahmad Kamal Arifin Ismail here on Thursday (June 26). He was alleged to have received the money from a restaurant manager as an inducement not to take legal action against the premises for breach of the Food Hygiene Regulations 2009. Azrul Nazwan was charged with committing the offence at a restaurant on Jalan Meldrum here between 8pm and 9pm on July 25. The charge, under Section 17 (a) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009, provides for jail of up to 20 years, and a fine not less than five times the amount or value of the bribe or RM10,000, whichever is higher, upon conviction. The accused was allowed bail of RM5,000 with one surety, ordered to report to the Johor Baru MACC office once a month, and surrender his passport to the court. Kota Kinabalu: Thirteen illegal immigrants comprising Filipinos and Indonesians were jailed four months each. Aesimal Landu, Al paisal Abdullah, Azlan Husin Asidin, Esam Ayudin, Omar Abdul Salleh, Radzmil Umad, Rian Zulkifli, Sadri Landu, Sarah Indang, Albinar Julasdi, Sitti Yalin Julasdi, Parak Baki and Nurjima Salimuddin, aged 22 and 50, all pleaded guilty separately before Sessions Court Judge Hurman Hussain, to entering the State without their valid documents. Advertisement The offence under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/1963 provides for a jail term of up to five years, or a fine of up to RM10,000 and whipping, on conviction. The illegal immigrants were arrested by the Immigration team who carried out operation in Papar, Tenom, Kota Belud, Kota Marudu and Kudat in May this year. During the operation, they failed to produce their identification documents to the Immigration personnel. In asking for leniency, they informed the court that they had stayed in the State without documents for several months and years and worked as labourers, carpenters and farmers. Advertisement They asked to be deported to their respective hometowns as soon as possible. The court ordered the illegal immigrants to serve the jail sentence from the date of their arrests. After completing their jail sentence, all of them were ordered referred to the Immigration Department for further action.
