Kota Kinabalu: Thirteen illegal immigrants comprising Filipinos and Indonesians were jailed four months each. Aesimal Landu, Al paisal Abdullah, Azlan Husin Asidin, Esam Ayudin, Omar Abdul Salleh, Radzmil Umad, Rian Zulkifli, Sadri Landu, Sarah Indang, Albinar Julasdi, Sitti Yalin Julasdi, Parak Baki and Nurjima Salimuddin, aged 22 and 50, all pleaded guilty separately before Sessions Court Judge Hurman Hussain, to entering the State without their valid documents.

The illegal immigrants were arrested by the Immigration team who carried out operation in Papar, Tenom, Kota Belud, Kota Marudu and Kudat in May this year. During the operation, they failed to produce their identification documents to the Immigration personnel. In asking for leniency, they informed the court that they had stayed in the State without documents for several months and years and worked as labourers, carpenters and farmers.
Advertisement They asked to be deported to their respective hometowns as soon as possible. The court ordered the illegal immigrants to serve the jail sentence from the date of their arrests. After completing their jail sentence, all of them were ordered referred to the Immigration Department for further action. Ex-ticketing clerk claims trial to 10 counts of CBT involving RM114,630
KOTA BARU: A former bus ticketing clerk pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here to 10 charges of criminal breach of trust (CBT) involving ticket sales of RM114,630.80 at the Lembah Sireh Bus Terminal a decade ago. Bibi Kasiran Mohamad, 50, entered the plea on Sunday (June 29) after the charges were read before Judge Zulkifli Abllah. She is accused of allegedly failing to remit ticket sales proceeds ranging from RM7,000 to over RM18,000 per transaction to a bus company, between January and October 2015. The single mother, who was working at a ticketing counter at the terminal, was charged under Section 408 of the Penal Code, which provides for a prison term of between one and 14 years, with caning, and a fine, upon conviction. Deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Faiz Fitri Mohamad appeared for the prosecution, while counsel Muhammad Khairul Azwan Azhan represented the accused. Earlier, Ahmad Faiz Fitri informed the court that while the prosecution was not offering bail due to the 10 charges against the accused, it proposed RM5,000 per charge if bail were to be considered. However, Muhammad Khairul Azwan pleaded for a lower sum, citing his client's age, the death of her husband in August last year, and her responsibility in caring for her ailing elderly parents. He added that she also suffers from age-related illnesses and a heart condition. "My client works at a kuih stall with a daily income of RM45. This is also her first offence. Therefore, I respectfully request the court to impose a reduced bail amount of RM15,000 for all charges combined," he submitted. The court subsequently allowed bail at RM18,000 for all the charges, with one surety, and fixed Aug 28 for case mention and submission of documents. -Bernama

Engineer loses RM275,000 to online 'Moomoo' investment scam
ALOR SETAR: A 57-year-old engineer lost RM275,000 after falling for an online investment scam known as 'Moomoo', which was advertised on Facebook in April. Kedah Commercial Crime Investigation Department chief Supt Loi Yew Lik said the victim responded to an investment offer involving Chinese currency on April 20 by clicking a WhatsApp link, which led him to a group called '6 Investment Securuties Internasional'. He later communicated with several individuals using the numbers 019-2007253 and 019-2345678. "The scammers promised a 10% return within days, prompting the victim to transfer RM275,000 in eight transactions between May 27 and June 13 to two company accounts under the names Cisi Infra Solution and Cisi CPT Infra Trading," he said in a statement on Sunday (June 29). When no profits were received, the victim grew suspicious as the scammers continued requesting more money, claiming it was needed to release his returns and initial capital. He eventually lodged a police report at the Baling District Police Headquarters on Saturday after realising he had been cheated. Loi advised the public to verify any investment offers with the police or nearby stations and to use tools such as the Mule Check app, the CCID Facebook page, or contact the National Scam Response Centre at 997. - Bernama

At least six wounded in large-scale Russian air attack on Ukraine, Ukrainian authorities say

Ukraine lost its third F-16 fighter jet since the start of the war while repelling the attack, the military said. The sounds of explosions were heard in Lviv, Poltava, Mykolaiv, Dnipropetrovsk and Cherkasy regions, regional governors said. The Ukrainian military said some 500 different types of aerial weapons were used during the attack, including drones, ballistic and cruise missiles. "To repel the massive attack, all available means of the defence forces that can operate on enemy air assets were deployed," the military said. The pilot of the Ukrainian F-16 jet did everything he could and flew the jet away from a settlement but did not have time to eject, the Ukrainian Air Force said. "The pilot used all of his onboard weapons and shot down seven air targets. While shooting down the last one, his aircraft was damaged and began to lose altitude," the Air Force said on the Telegram messenger. The military said Russia had launched 477 drones and 60 missiles of various types to Ukraine overnight while Ukrainian forces destroyed 211 drones and 38 missiles. It said 225 drones were lost - in reference to the Ukrainian military using electronic warfare to redirect them - or they were drone simulators that did not carry warheads. It said air strikes were recorded in six locations. INFRASTRUCTURE, HOMES Six people, including one child, were injured in the central Cherkasy region, the governor Ihor Taburets said on the Telegram messenger. Three multi-storey buildings and a college were damaged in the attack, he said. Industrial facilities were hit in the southern Ukrainian Mykolaiv and central Dnipropetrovsk regions, officials say. Local authorities published photos of multi-storey houses with charred walls and broken windows and rescuers evacuating residents. The governor of the Lviv region in the west of the country said the attack targeted critical infrastructure. However, he did not report on the aftermath.
