Rashid Shaheed's 68-yard touchdown catch is the Saints Play of the Day

We're on Day 68 in our countdown to the New Orleans Saints' season opener, which means this 68-yard touchdown pass from Taysom Hill to Rashid Shaheed is our pick for the Saints Play of the Day. You can see the play for yourself here, but here's how Shaheed and Hill put the hurt on the Atlanta Falcons back in 2022. Shaheed, then a little-known rookie who had missed most of the season recovering from a college knee injury, electrified the Saints offense once he was cleared to play; he scored a touchdown on each of his first two touches, once as a rusher (from 44 yards) and again as a receiver (from 58 yards). But his field-flipping score against the dirty birds in Week 15 was special. Unfamiliar with his speed, the Falcons defense gave Shaheed to much room to roam, and he made them pay for that mistake. He blazed past safety Richie Grant and left the other defenders scrambling to catch up. And with quarterback Andy Dalton lined up out wide, Hill stepped up in the pocket to deliver a strike where only Shaheed could catch it. Grant leapt in a desperate bid to break up the pass, but it was out of his reach, and the rookie receiver took off for the end zone. That put the Saints up 14-0 in a game they would ultimately win 21-18, tying their all-time record with Atlanta at 54-54. Now that's a good way to introduce yourself. Shaheed followed up his impressive 12-game rookie year with a breakout season in 2023 -- catching 46 passes for 719 yards and 5 touchdowns, with his efforts on special teams earning him a Pro Bowl nomination. Another knee injury cut his 2024 season short, but now that he's going into a contract year in 2025, all eyes are on Shaheed as he works to level up again and prove he can be a consistent part of the Saints passing game.

Rashid Shaheed's 70-yard touchdown catch is the Saints Play of the Day

We're up to Day 70 in our countdown to the New Orleans Saints' season opener, which means our pick for the Saints Play of the Day is this 70-yard touchdown pass from Derek Carr to Rashid Shaheed. You can see the play here, but the whole highlight reel is worth watching. The Saints routed the Dallas Cowboys in Week 2 last season. Hopefully they can do the same when the Arizona Cardinals visit this September. It was a great play by all involved. Carr executed the play action fake and drove upfield, stepping up in the pocket under pressure; he took a big hit from rookie defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa after the throw, but it was worth it. His pass hit Shaheed in stride and the receiver strode untouched into the end zone with a pair of Cowboys defenders trailing him. This gave the Saints a lead they wouldn't relinquish. By the end of the afternoon, they outscored the Cowboys 44-19 and outgained Dallas by 432 yards to 353. It was everything we hoped to see out of them: an efficient passing attack (Carr only threw 16 passes, completing 11 of them for 243 yards) and effective running game that attacked the defense from all angles. The defense buckled down and twice stopped the Cowboys on fourth down, too. It's just a shame they couldn't sustain this success. Injuries hammered New Orleans and their season never returned to these heights, but on this afternoon in Week 2? Things were good, and Shaheed's big play was a big part of it.

Released 65 years ago, this blockbuster of Manoj Kumar beat Sholay, saved Dilip Kumar's career, film is...

When a filmmaker becomes his own leading man and reignites another legend's career, cinema witnesses a rare revolution. That revolution was Kranti . Manoj Kumar, originally an actor, began his cinematic journey with humble beginnings. Though he debuted before, stardom truly knocked on his door with the 1965 patriotic hit Shaheed . From there, he became Bollywood's face of nationalism, crafting narratives soaked in social values and love for the motherland. But Manoj didn't stop at acting. He turned director with Upkar in 1967—a film that set the tone for his signature style: patriotic, emotionally charged, and deeply rooted in Indian values. Hits like Poorab Aur Paschim and Roti Kapda Aur Makaan followed. Yet it was Kranti , released in 1981, that emerged as his cinematic landmark. With a stellar cast that included Shashi Kapoor, Hema Malini, Parveen Babi, Shatrughan Sinha, and himself, Manoj Kumar pulled off what few filmmakers could. But the biggest headline? Kranti marked the return of the legendary Dilip Kumar—after a five-year hiatus and a decade without a major hit. 'Kranti was the turning point for Dilip Sahab,' film buffs still recall. He had been away from the limelight since films like Aadmi and Sangharsh underperformed. But Kranti brought him back with thunderous applause and reminded the industry why he was once called the 'Tragedy King'. At the box office, Kranti didn't just succeed—it dominated. Earning Rs 20 crore in the early '80s was no small feat. The film overtook even giants like Sholay and Mother India . Though Sholay reclaimed its crown during its re-release, Kranti had already left a cultural footprint. Such was the craze, that merchandise flooded the markets— Kranti -branded t-shirts, jackets, even underwear. Rare for its time, the film became a pop-cultural wave. While Dilip Kumar had once ruled the '50s and '60s, it was Kranti that repositioned him in the cinematic map of the 1980s, where he ended up giving some of the decade's top-grossing films, surpassing even Amitabh Bachchan in box office pull for a brief time. Manoj Kumar directed a revolution, but it was Dilip Kumar who roared back as its voice.

Derek O'Brien writes: A quizmaster's tribute to the Indian Armed Forces

It has been one month and one day since the monumental tragedy at Pahalgam. Every life matters. More than 20 lives were lost in Poonch, Rajouri and Uri. Prime time debates did not do justice to this part of the story. At least 15 people were killed in Poonch, including four children. Three were killed in Rajouri. An Additional District Development Commissioner, a migrant labourer from Uttar Pradesh, a Sikh ragi (one who sings hymns), and a seven-year-old girl were among those who lost their lives. Schools were destroyed. Places of worship were damaged. Pahalgam, Poonch, Rajouri, Uri needed to be spoken of in the same sentence. As we stand by the grieving families, let us pay tribute to the men and women in uniform who are on the ground in Jammu and Kashmir. And all the Indian Armed Forces — approximately 50 lakh of them — personify valour. Fourteen lakh from the Army, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard, 11 lakh in the reserve forces, and 25 lakh in the paramilitary forces.
