Six men nabbed in Kota Belud brawl over football

KOTA BELUD: Police arrested six men in connection with a brawl that broke out during a football match at Padang Dudan, Kampung Piasau, which was shared widely on social media, last Sunday. The suspects, aged between 24 and 42, were detained at around 12.10am Monday to assist in the investigation. Kota Belud District Police Chief Supt Shahrudin Mat Husain said the police received a report regarding the incident at about 4.30pm. 'Preliminary investigations revealed the fight occurred during an ongoing football match, involving supporters from both teams. 'All six men were detained, and investigations are being carried out under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting and disturbing public peace,' he said. Shahrudin advised the public not to speculate about the incident as it could disrupt the ongoing investigation. Anyone with information related to the incident is urged to come forward to the Kota Belud District Police Headquarters or contact Investigating Officer Inspector Christina Edris at 014-3574148. The videos, 49 seconds and 19 seconds long, were widely circulated on WhatsApp and Facebook. KOTA BELUD: Six men have been arrested after a brawl broke out during a football match in Padang Dudan, Kampung Piasau here, yesterday. The incident has gone viral. The suspects, aged 24 to 42, were arrested about 12.10am today to assist in investigations. District police chief Superintendent Shahrudin Mat Husain said police received a report about the incident at 4.30pm yesterday. "Investigations found that the fight occurred during a football match at a field involving supporters from both teams. "Six men were arrested. Investigations are being carried out under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting and disturbing public peace," he said today. He advised the public not to speculate on the matter as it could affect the investigation. "Anyone with information about the incident should go to the Kota Belud district police headquarters or contact investigating officer Inspector Christina Edris at 014-357 4148." More than 10 people were involved in the altercation, according to a viral video clip of the incident.

Panicky pushers: Trio nabbed during anti-drug sweep in Kota Belud
KOTA KINABALU: Three men in Kota Belud fled in a panic when they spotted a police team, only to be caught and exposed as suspected drug dealers. The suspects, aged 40 to 45, were in the Kampung Kelawat area when police mounted an anti-drug operation, Ops Tapis Narkotik, on Thursday (June 26). Kota Belud OCPD Supt Shahrudin Mat Husain said police caught up with the suspects after a chase and found drugs, believed to be syabu meant for distribution in the area, in their possession. They were brought to the police station for questioning and also tested positive for methamphetamine, he added. He said the suspects will be remanded before being charged in court soon. Supt Shahrudin said police will continue conducting raids against drug and ketum abuse in the district. In another operation in Tawau, police detained a man with drugs in his possession following inspections at the Sabindo Bus Terminal on Wednesday (June 25) evening. Tawau OCPD Asst Comm Jasmin Hussin said the arrest was made at 4.15pm by a team from the district Narcotics Crime Investigation Division. 'There was a small plastic bag filled with what we believe is syabu, weighing around 5.60g and valued at RM300, on the suspect,' he said. The suspect tested negative for drugs, and police believe he is part of a network in the district, he added. ACP Jasmin urged the community to help fight crime in the district by providing the police with information on any suspicious activities.

Motorcyclist dies after hit by lorry in Kota Belud

KOTA BELUD: A motorcyclist was killed in a crash involving three vehicles, including a 10-tonne lorry, along Jalan Kota Belud-Tuaran near Bukit Kelawat, early Thursday. The 7.10am accident claimed the life of the 44-year-old motorcyclist, who died at the scene from severe injuries. Advertisement Kota Belud District Police Chief Supt Shahrudin Mat Husain said the crash also involved a Toyota Hilux. 'Initial investigations found that the lorry, driven by a 51-year-old man, lost control while descending Bukit Kelawat. 'The lorry struck a Toyota Hilux driven by a 35-year-old man before crashing into the victim's motorcycle,' he said in a statement. The lorry and Hilux drivers escaped uninjured. Advertisement The victim's body was sent to the Forensic Unit of Kota Belud Hospital for further action. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
