MAA Ending Explained: Who is the real villain in Kajol's supernatural drama and does post-credit scene hint at Shaitaan 2?

The Vishal Furia-directed movie blends horror with mythology, exploring the ultimate battle between Goddess Kali and the demon Raktabeej. Although the climax of MAA follows the typical ending of triumph over evil, the way it is shot and presented makes it a chilling experience for the audience. Maa movie ending explained: Who is the real villain? The climax of Maa shows Ambika (played by Kajol) trying to return to Kolkata from her village with her daughter Shweta, after a demon attempts to abduct her. However, she couldn't succeed as the evil forces attacked her and threw her out of the car, resulting in Shweta getting abducted. Furthermore, Ambika found herself in a hut belonging to an old woman, who was regarded as a witch with a 40-year-old history. The old woman further narrates a story to Ambika and tells her how she was ostracized. She also revealed the man behind all conspiracies and evil practices in the village and he is none other than Joy Dada (played by Ronit Roy). The old woman revealed that it was Joy who sacrificed the baby to the demon and then r*ped her. He was the one who influenced people to believe that the woman was a witch, as she was against sacrificing the girl child when she performed Kali Puja. Meanwhile, cops confront Joy Dada (demon), who admitted to murdering Shuvankar (Ambika's husband) and his own father to make sure Ambika and Shweta return to the village, so that he can fulfil his sinister intent of impregnating Shweta's womb. Joy Dada mentioned that he was confronted by the demon Raktabeej who had asked him to bring the next girl child of his family when she hits puberty so that he can put Raktabeej inside her. How does Ambika fight the demon? Did Shweta get impregnated? At her ancestral home, Ambika performs the Kali Puja and takes the blessings of the divine power to triumph over evil. She further heads towards the haunted forest only to be killed brutally by the demon. Thankfully, she is reborn with divine powers of Maa Kali and achieves a victory over evil by taking out his heart. Meanwhile, Ambika's daughter Shweta gets impregnated by the devil, which forces Ambika to sacrifice her own daughter for the sake of the people. When she was about to behead her daughter, all the souls of earlier sacrificed girl children appeared. Meanwhile, the old woman stops Ambika and reveals that the prophecies of Maa Kali were misinterpreted, and the Goddess has reversed the Demon's raktabeej from Shweta's womb. Does the post-credit scene of Maa hint at Shaitaan 2? In the post-credit scene, a man wearing a hoodie (played by R Madhavan) enters the haunted forest with the background song of Shaitaan. He then collects the ashes of the demon in one hand and turns himself into a demon. Hinting at Shaitaan 2, Madhavan's character Vanaraj says, 'Tum insaano ki sbse badi bewakoofi pta hai kya hai? Tumhe lagta hai tumne bure ko maar kar burai ko maar diya, mujhe maar diya. Lekin jab tak iss Brahmand me insan zinda rahega, tab tak uske andar ka Shaitaan zinda rahega.' Kajol reveals why Nysa Devgan and Yug Devgan don't watch her movies: ‘Unko pasand nahi hai apni maa ko…'
Last year, Bollywood actors Ajay Devgn and R Madhavan took the audience on a thrilling ride with their supernatural horror film Shaitaan. Much to the delight of fans, they later promised us a sequel. But as we were eagerly waiting for Shaitaan 2, Ajay surprised us with another film from the world of Shaitaan. We are talking about the upcoming spin-off titled Maa, set in the same universe, starring Ajay's actor wife Kajol in the lead. Well, Kajol is currently on a promotional spree for the same. During one such interview, she got candid about her children Nysa Devgan and Yug Devgan, who don't like watching her films. BREAKING: Ajay Devgn's Shaitaan 2 to expand with new actors on board, filming begins in 2026 after Golmaal FIVE
Ajay Devgn's 2024-released supernatural thriller Shaitaan was a superhit at the box office. Pinkvilla exclusively reported that Shaitaan 2 is officially in the development stage, and now, we have learnt something exciting about the much-awaited sequel. According to a source close to the development, Shaitaan 2 will have new actors on board besides retaining its original star cast, Ajay Devgn, R Madhavan, Jyothika, and Janki Bodiwala. Furthermore, the official announcement of Shaitaan 2 can be expected with Kajol's upcoming release, Maa, on the big screen. Reportedly, the makers have woven a smooth connection between Shaitaan and Maa, which can elevate the chilling experience for fans. As Shaitaan and Maa cross paths in the same cinematic universe, Kajol's cameo in Shaitaan 2 shouldn't be a surprise. However, a concrete confirmation on the same is awaited. Ruling out media speculations, Shaitaan 2 will be an original subject, unlike its previous installment. The supernatural drama is currently in the writing stage. Though the premise is locked, writer Aamil Keeyan Khan, who wrote the first part, is yet to finish the final draft. While the first part revolves around a family facing the wrath of black magician Vanraj, played by R Madhavan, the sequel will reportedly be set against the backdrop of the Konkan region of Maharashtra, infamous for evil practices. Vikas Bahl will be back to helm the sequel. Shaitaan 2 is expected to roll on the floors in 2026, soon after Ajay Devgn's Golmaal FIVE with Rohit Shetty. The movie is planned to have a release in 2027, depending on its shooting timelines and post-production. Besides Shaitaan 2 and Maa, there will be fresh additions to the newly announced supernatural cinematic experience. On the work front, Ajay Devgn will be next seen in Son Of Sardaar 2 and De De Pyaar De 2. While the former is slated to hit the cinemas on July 25, 2025, the latter is locked to release on November 14, 2025. The supernatural thriller film received an overwhelming response. Well, for a long time rumours have been going on that the sequel is in the making, but an official confirmation is still awaited. Recently, Peeping Moon has reported that the shoot will begin in 2026 and Vikas Bahl will be directing it. mentioned that Shaitaan 2 is scheduled to go on floors in 2026. The sequel will reportedly be set in the Konkan region of Maharashtra, an area infamous for its association with black magic rituals. Shaitaan 2 will be an original story and not a remake of the upcoming Gujarati horror sequel Vash Level 2. Report also claims that Vikas Bahl will return as the director and is expected to begin work on Shaitaan 2 after the release of his romantic comedy Dil Ka Darwaaza Khol Na Darling. Released on March 8, Shaitaan was presented by Jio Studios, Devgn Films and Panorama Studios. It was produced by Ajay Devgn, Jyoti Deshpande, Kumar Mangat Pathak and Abhishek Pathak and directed by Vikas Bahl. Devgn will, of course, be back leading the pack of the famously dysfunctional Golmaal gang—Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Kunal Kemmu, Shreyas Talpade, and the legendary Johnny Lever.
