Gujarat: CM stays overnight in remote, border village; interacts with villagers to encourage school enrollment

Gandhinagar (Gujarat) [India], June 28 (ANI): As part of the Shala Praveshotsav - Kanya Kelavani Mahotsav, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has adopted a sensitive approach by staying overnight in remote and border-area villages to promote school enrollment among children. According to an official release, during his overnight stay, the Chief Minister held traditional 'khatla baithaks' with villagers, fostering community dialogue and embracing the spirit of rural life. During previous years' Shala Praveshotsav, Chief Minister Patel had stayed overnight in a rural area near the Madhya Pradesh border in Narmada district and in a village near the Maharashtra border in Dang district. He held interactive meetings with villagers and gathered insights about the developmental needs of these regions. On the third day of the 2025 Shala Praveshotsav, Saturday (June 28), Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel facilitated the enrollment of children in Kuran village, located near the India-Pakistan international border in Kutch district. Before leading the Shala Praveshotsav in Kuran, CM Patel arrived in Kutch on Friday. He stayed overnight in the village and conducted an evening dialogue session with the residents. The Chief Minister congratulated the villagers of Kuran, located near the international border, for their cooperation during Operation Sindoor by following the instructions of the administrative authorities and the armed forces. CM Patel highlighted to the villagers that even the most remote regions of Kutch have experienced accelerated development, driven by the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He stated that the Renewable Energy Park has become a major hub for employment, and the Rann Utsav has brought economic prosperity to the rural communities of Kutch. Chief Minister assured the villagers that the government stands firmly with them and is fully committed to addressing and fulfilling their local development needs. On Saturday, the concluding day of the Shala Praveshotsav, the Chief Minister visited the school in Kuran village and facilitated the enrollment of 104 children, from Balvatika and Anganwadi up to standard 9. As part of this year's Shala Praveshotsav, over 1.34 lakh children are set to be enrolled in schools across the entire Kutch district. Chief Minister Patel also inaugurated the newly constructed primary school in Kuran, a village known as the sentinel of the border. The Chief Minister interacted with the newly enrolled children and held a meeting with members of the School Management Committee (SMC), guiding school and village infrastructure, the quality of education, and various development-related issues. Furthermore, he also urged parents to take an active interest in their children's education and to contribute towards building a Viksit Gujarat for a Viksit Bharat. Turning the Shala Praveshotsav into a celebration of development, the Chief Minister gifted development projects worth Rs 107.60 crore to the Kutch district. On the occasion, MLAs, office bearers, senior district officials, villagers, children, and their parents were present. (ANI)

Het Joshi, enrolled through Gujarat's Shala Praveshotsav, becomes doctor

Gandhinagar (Gujarat) [India], June 28 (ANI): Admission to primary school is a defining milestone in a child's life, one that lays the foundation for future learning and growth. Recognising its significance, the then Chief Minister of Gujarat, Narendra Modi, believed that this first step into education should be more than a formality; it should be celebrated like a festival. With this vision, in 2003, Narendra Modi launched Shala Praveshotsav, turning routine school enrolment into a statewide movement, a release said. Launched over two decades ago by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Shala Praveshotsav continues to be carried forward under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, who inaugurated its 23rd edition on 26 June at Divda PM Shri School in Kadana Taluka, Mahisagar district. This initiative has opened the doors of education to lakhs of children across Gujarat and helped many build successful futures as teachers, doctors, engineers, and chartered accountants. One such inspiring story is that of Het Kantibhai Joshi, a resident of Debhari village in Mahisagar district, who was enrolled in primary school through Shala Praveshotsav in 2007 by the then Chief Minister Narendra Modi. 'In 2007, Chief Minister Narendra Modi visited our small village for Shala Praveshotsav,' recalls Dr Het Joshi, a resident of Debhari village in Virpur Taluka of Mahisagar district. 'The entire village was filled with a festive spirit. Modi Sir enrolled me and several other children into the government primary school and gave us slates, notebooks, and pens to support our learning.' Dr Joshi further remembers a brief but inspiring speech delivered by Modi during the visit. 'He told us about the importance of education and said that in a few years, we would grow up to become the youth of the nation, the future of the country.' 'When I was little, I wasn't very interested in education. I was enrolled in kindergarten, but I didn't enjoy going to school. Later, I was admitted to primary school through Shala Praveshotsav. That experience changed everything. I made new friends, and within a few days, I started going to school on my own. Eventually, I began enjoying school more than being at home. Gradually, I developed a genuine interest in learning, especially in maths and science. That led me to choose the science stream after Class 10 and dream of becoming a doctor,' said Dr Het Joshi. 'The foundation of my education was laid during my early years at a government school, where I studied from Class 1 to 5. I then completed my secondary education (Class 6 to 10) at a school in Lunawada, commuting daily by bus. For higher secondary, I joined Parth School of Science and Competition in Vadodara for the Science stream in Class 11 and 12. Around that time, the new NEET exam had been introduced for medical admissions, and I was part of its third batch. Our school had a strict routine with regular tests and consistent guidance from teachers. They helped us strengthen areas we struggled with, and this support, along with my dedicated efforts over the final 6-8 months, increased my confidence. After clearing the Class 12 exam, I scored 555 out of 720 in NEET and secured admission to MP Shah Medical College in Jamnagar purely on merit. It's a government medical college, so the fees were significantly lower than private institutions. That made it financially easier for me to pursue my dream of becoming a doctor,' shared Dr Het Joshi. Dr. Het Joshi appeared for his first and second-year MBBS exams during the challenging period of the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2024, he successfully cleared his final-year MBBS exam and went on to complete his medical internship in 2025. Today, Dr Het Joshi serves as a Medical Officer at the Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Virpur Taluka. The educational journey that began with the Shala Praveshotsav has taken Dr Het from a small village in Mahisagar district to a meaningful role in public healthcare. He is now counted among the state's dedicated young doctors with a promising future in the medical field. Reflecting on his journey, Dr Het credits Shala Praveshotsav for introducing him to school education--an opportunity that transformed his life, the release stated. There are many such inspiring stories like Dr Het's, where Shala Praveshotsav has played a crucial role in shaping a child's future. Several children who were enrolled in school through this initiative by the then Chief Minister Narendra Modi have grown up to become doctors, teachers, engineers, chartered accountants, and are pursuing higher education today. Shala Praveshotsav has not only changed lives, but it has brought about a transformative shift in Gujarat's education landscape. (ANI)

All schemes started by PM Modi during his stint as Gujarat CM have been immensely successful: Bhupendra Patel launches annual state-wide school enrolment drive

All the public interest schemes started by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his stint as the Chief Minister of Gujarat have been 'immensely successful' and the efficacy of their results is there for all to see, CM Bhupendra Patel said on Thursday as he launched the 23rd edition of the annual state-wide enrolment drive – Shala Praveshotsav and Kanya Kelavani – from Divda PM Shri School in Kadana taluka of Mahisagar district. While enrolling students to Balvatika, primary school and Class IX, and welcoming them to the school by gifting them educational kits, the CM said, 'When the PM (Modi) started the school entrance festival in 2003, the drop out rate was around 35%. This has been reduced to 0.85%, i.e. less than 1%. The state government has taken sufficient care to ensure that the children admitted to the school do not drop out of their studies.' He further said, 'The government stands by such children through the Namo Lakshmi and Namo Saraswati schemes to ensure that they do not face any inconvenience in their studies due to financial problems in their family.' Patel said the government has also taken care that the students come to school regularly. 'If a child is absent for even a day, the teachers go to their house and find out the reason behind it… if there is public participation in government schemes, everyone benefits and 100% results are obtained,' he added while appealing to the parents to be active in the School Management Committees (SMC). The CM said Gujarat is committed to 100% enrolment of children and all-round development through quality education while taking forward the annual enrolment drive started by the PM. In Ahmedabad city, Minister of State for Cooperation Jagdish Vishwakarma flagged off the drive by admitting students at Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation-run Kankaria Gujarati School Number 1 and grant-in-aid Shri Ramakrishna Vidyalaya in Maninagar. As per the data of Ahmedabad Municipal School Board, as of June 25, the total number of children admitted in Balvatika in Ahmedabad city for the year 2025-26 is 13,427, which includes 6,732 boys and 6,695 girls. The total number of new admissions in Class I is 3,406, including 1,723 boys and 1,683 girls. In addition, the total number of children who have passed out of Balvatika and got admission in Class I is 15,479, including 7,732 boys and 7,747 girls. Thus, a total of 32,312 children are included in Balvatika and Class I, including 16,187 boys and 1,6125 girls. The total number of children who have taken admission in Municipal Corporation schools from Class I till VIII from private schools is 2,941, including 1,568 boys and 1,373 girls. PM Modi had launched the Kanya Kelvani Mahotsav and Shala Praveshotsav in 2003-04 when he was the CM of the state. This year, the state government had declared that the theme of the drive would be 'Let's make Shala Praveshotsav a social festival'.
