Scooter Braun on Taylor Swift buying masters: 'Everybody in the end won'
Music executive Scooter Braun broke his silence on Taylor Swift buying her master recordings, saying: "The cool part, if you actually pay attention, is everybody in the end won." The comment comes just past the halfway mark of his appearance on the "Question Everything" podcast hosted by Danielle Robay. Around the 46 minute mark, Robay brings up Braun's company Ithaca Holdings and its 2019 acquisition of the rights to Swift's first six albums from Big Machine Label Group along with the work of other artists including Thomas Rhett and Florida Georgia Line. "If people didn't know you from your work with all these artists like [Justin] Bieber and Ariana [Grande], they definitely know you from the Swift saga," Robay said. "What happened?" Braun replied. Notorious Nashville: 2019 was year of feuds with Taylor Swift, Scooter Braun, NFL and cherry trees. In 2019, Taylor Swift told fans in a Tumblr post that she "wasn't given an opportunity to buy" the original recordings of her first six albums. She also said two of Braun's clients — Bieber and Kanye West — had bullied her online and described the sale of her catalog to Braun as her "worst case scenario." On the podcast, Braun responded to Swift's original statement, "Like when Taylor says she wasn't offered the masters, the reason I was under NDA is because we were in negotiations to sell it back to her. I choose to believe her that maybe they didn't tell her." Robay asked, "Who's they?" to which Braun answered, "Her team. Maybe her team didn't tell her, didn't understand the negotiations." In 2020, Braun sold the masters to Shamrock Capital, which sold them back to the superstar in May. Swift shared a letter on her website saying, "I will be forever grateful to everyone at Shamrock Capital for being the first people to ever offer this to me... I am endlessly thankful. My first tattoo might just be a huge shamrock in the middle of my forehead." Taylor Swift's fight to own her music changed recording contracts in ways good and bad Braun explained why, from a business standpoint, he believes everyone came out ahead — despite the controversy. Swift's decision to rerecord her first six albums led to surges in streaming for both the original versions and the newly released "Taylor's Versions." "She's the biggest she's ever been, the biggest artist of all time," he said referencing the global success of her Eras Tour. Braun told Robay he wished one thing had gone differently. "The only thing that I really regret is it's easy to have a monster, if you never meet them," he said. "Taylor and I have only met three times in our life, and I think at that point we hadn't seen each other in two, three years. I was managing people she wasn't a fan of, and she probably saw my name come up and thought, 'I don't like those people so I don't like him.'" The music mogul first met Swift in 2010 when Bieber opened for her on the "Fearless" tour. Taylor Swift fans embark on frenzy of speculation amid Instagram countdown
It's been 533 days since Taylor Swift has released an album and new social media posts by the singer's company have the fandom running amok with theories that new music is imminent. On July 18, Taylor Nation posted a new archive section of her website that includes 15 tabs for each of her albums (11 original recordings and four rerecords). Under each era are awards, concerts and 13 photos of the singer from the time. Swift's "Speak Now" song "Mine" was used in reference to Swift buying back her masters and regaining complete ownership over her entire discography. "The best thing that has ever been ours is finally home," the caption read. While fans scoured every pixel of the website update for clues to her next project, Taylor Nation posted a second carousel referencing the artist's first era. "Welcome home, self titled," the account captioned. "Everything we need is finally right here by our side and to celebrate, stream the album with us at 1pm EDT today." Fans flocked to Stationhead, a streaming site to congregate, chat and simultaneously listen to her first album. Some influencers like Ty Wilson theorized that she would drop the rerecorded version of her debut era, which she admitted in a letter to fans is complete. "I really like how it sounds now," Swift teased. On July 19, Swift's team posted another listening party for her second album, "Fearless." Instead of streaming at 1 p.m., the party would start at 2 p.m. On July 20, they announced a listening party for her third album, "Speak Now," at 3 p.m. And like clockwork, on July 21, they highlighted her fourth album, "Red," with a listening party at 4 p.m. What's unknown is how the countdown will unfold and what, if anything, it's leading to. One could surmise it will go like this: However, the singer's team may stop at a "Reputation" listening party, because the posts keep teasing "welcome home" and only her first six albums were purchased back from Shamrock Capital. Another question is will the countdown include the rerecorded versions of "Fearless (Taylor's Version)," "Red (Taylor's Version)," "Speak Now (Taylor's Version)" and "1989 (Taylor's Version)"? Taylor Swift fans failed to manifest 'Reputation' news at American Music Awards What fans think it could mean As Wilson pointed out in one of his theory videos, in the caption of the post about her first album, the singer's team included a lyric from her 12th song, "I'm Only Me When I'm With You": "Everything I need is right here by my side." He believes she may be hinting to her 12th era and adds Thursday's date of 7/24 adds up to 13 (7+2+4), which is a metric the singer has used in the past for announcements. On the third post, fan Tyler Conroy said, "the countdown is countdowning..." Reagan Baylee added, "OK HI OFFICIAL COUNTDOWN HELP 🤡🤡🤡." It's possible Swift is reliving the Eras Tour as a countdown to a documentary series or movie about the tour. Fans spotted camera crews following the singer from Europe back to North America last year with the majority of production cameras at her final stop in Vancouver. Fan Kelly Ann offered a frustrating scenario: "I swear to god if all this is just a countdown to a merch drop." The hoopla could also lead to nothing. The fandom went down a mythologizing blackhole for two years thinking "Reputation (Taylor's Version)" would be announced at the tail end of the Eras Tour, at the Grammys, at the iHeartRadio Music Awards and at the American Music Awards. Swift said in her letter, "Full transparency, I haven't even re-recorded a quarter of it" and "there will be a time (if you're into the idea) for the unreleased vault tracks from that album to hatch." Scooter Braun not 'affected' by Taylor Swift row
Scooter Braun has insisted his public falling out with Taylor Swift didn't "affect" him. In 2019, the 44-year-old music manager bought the Bad Blood singer's former record label Big Machine Records and her master recordings, which he then sold on to Shamrock Capital in 2020, much to the fury of Taylor - who reacquired ownership of the recordings earlier this year - because she wasn't offered the chance to buy them herself. And despite the backlash to his business decision, Scooter insisted the public outcry didn't have any impact on him, unlike the 2021 breakdown of his marriage to Yael Cohen, the mother of his three children. Scooter - whose real first name is Scott - told Danielle Robay on her Question Everything podcast: "No one in my family had ever been divorced. "And at that time, I had built up this foundation of Scooter because I didn't think Scott was strong enough. I didn't know that yet. "So having the perfect career, the perfect wife, the perfect life, the kids, the success, I thought that made me worthy of love. And it wasn't until our marriage came apart and I couldn't fix it. I felt like a failure because I didn't have a foundation. "But it was the greatest thing that ever happened to me because the ups and downs of artist life, the Taylor stuff, none of that actually affected me. Losing my marriage affected me." Scooter also dismissed speculation that Taylor's 2022 track Vigilante S*** was about his divorce. He said: "No, because I talk to Yael every day. "My ex-wife is one of my best friends, so me and my ex-wife laugh about that stuff. We don't even call each other ex. That's like my partner, that's the mother of my children. "I have a tattoo on my finger that says 'same team' after my divorce because she and I are on the same team for life. That's what we say to each other. "So no, I never thought that was about us. She never thought it was about us and everyone else kind of feeding into the fire. "Great strategy move, but nah." On Vigilante S***, Taylor sings about befriending an ex-wife. The lyrics include: "She needed cold hard proof so I gave her some, she had the envelope, where you think she got it from? Now she gets the house, gets the kids, gets the pride. Picture me thick as thieves with your ex-wife. And she looks so pretty, driving in your Benz, lately she's been dressing for revenge."

Taylor Swift performs live for the first time since reclaiming her masters at Nashville gig hosted by Travis Kelce
It's been a long time coming. Taylor Swift made a hotly anticipated return to the stage for the first time since buying back her masters and wrapping up her globally sold-out Eras Tour. The 14-time Grammy winner, 35, wowed the crowd with a rendition of 'Shake It Off' at the 'Tight Ends and Friends' concert hosted by Travis Kelce in Nashville, Tenn., Tuesday. The three-time Super Bowl champ founded the event as part of the training camp program 'Tight End University,' which he's holding in Music City this week. It appeared as though there were many Swifties at the soirée, as countless screaming fans couldn't contain their excitement during the 'Cruel Summer' singer's performance. 'We were up there, having some drinks and we were thinking 'How loud can this place get? Theoretically, how loud can the singing be in here?'' she hyped the crowd before revealing, 'We planned that three minutes ago.' Before stepping out on the stage at the Brooklyn Bowl, Sophia Scott, Graham Barham and Chase Rice performed while Swift enjoyed the evening in the VIP suite. Their performances were followed by Jordan Davis and Luke Combs. As Kane Brown was approaching the end of his set, Swift walked out and grabbed Rice's acoustic guitar — sending fans into a frenzy. She dedicated the song to 'our favorite players.' While tickets for the event had been on sale to the public for some time, Swift's appearance — and performance — was kept tightly under wraps. One Swiftie even livestreamed the performance on X, which showed the singer dressed in a black mini dress paired with a gold belt. Kelce, for his part, rocked a camo shirt and pants as he cheered his famous girlfriend on from the side of the stage. The pair were spotted the night before The performance marked her first since buying back her masters in what was said to be a colossal $360 million deal. The 'Fortnight' singer announced last month that she was finally able to buy back the entire music catalog of her first six studio albums. In 2019, record executive Scooter Braun bought the rights to her first six albums — 'Taylor Swift,' 'Fearless,' 'Speak Now,' 'Red,' '1989' and 'Reputation' — for $300 million (allegedly without her approval) before they were acquired by the investment firm Shamrock Capital a year later. In 2018, however, Swift inked a new deal with Universal Music Group and Republic Records, where she recorded and owns the masters of 'Lover,' 'Folklore,' 'Evermore,' 'Midnights' and 'The Tortured Poets Department.' Alongside a lengthy letter penned to fans, Swift broke her social media silence to celebrate the win by sharing photos of her sitting with her first six original albums fanned around her. 'You belong with me,' she captioned the post, quoting her famous 2008 song.
