General Security announces arrest of suspect who fled to Syria after Mais al-Jabal murder

General Security's press office announced Monday the arrest of a Syrian suspect in the July 21 murder of a resident of Wazzani, a southern village near the border with Israel. The body of the victim, Lebanese national Ahmad Moustapha Shehab, was found in Mais al-Jabal, on a road near the government hospital. The main suspect, a Syrian born in 1998, had been on the run, but was brought back to Lebanon from Syria and arrested Sunday in the village of Qaa in the Bekaa, according to the statement. He confessed to killing Shehab "to take revenge" in a personal matter before fleeing. The victim worked in buying and collecting scrap and metals in the area, and his body showed signs of stab wounds. According to preliminary information, the suspect worked with the victim and was seen with him on Sunday in a pickup truck in the streets of Mais al-Jabal, before disappearing. The army and intelligence services continued to search for him. After the crime, the municipality of Mais al-Jabal announced "measures" against Syrians residing and working illegally in the locality and denounced "the state's inability to protect its population."

Over 1,000 houses destroyed, hundreds of families homeless in Tulkarm & its camps

Tulkarm – Saba: For the 158th consecutive day in Tulkarm and its camps (Tulkarm Camp and Nur Shams), and the 145th day in Nur Shams Camp, Israeli occupation forces continue their escalating aggression, carrying out raids, arrests, and systematic destruction of infrastructure. This has led to a worsening humanitarian catastrophe and the displacement of thousands. Researcher Riam Badou, speaking to the Palestinian news agency "Shehab," stated, "The aggression continues daily, leaving widespread destruction in residential buildings and infrastructure, along with mass displacement under harsh humanitarian conditions." Badou revealed that "over 1,000 residential buildings have been completely demolished, each housing three to four families, leaving them homeless." She added that "the number of displaced people in Tulkarm and Nur Shams camps has exceeded 25,000, living in extremely dire humanitarian conditions amid a lack of aid and Israeli restrictions on relief efforts." Badou accused the Israeli occupation of "attempting to alter the demographic character of Nur Shams Camp by constructing new streets and roads inside the camp, a move aimed at erasing its symbolic significance as a living testament to the Palestinian refugee cause." In a legal development, Badou noted that an Israeli court recently issued a temporary freeze on demolition orders for 104 residential buildings in Tulkarm Camp after occupation forces had ordered their destruction. The court gave the prosecution until September 2 to justify the planned demolitions. In the latest escalation, on the evening of Thursday, July 3, 61-year-old citizen Waleed Hassan Saad Badeer was martyred by Israeli forces' gunfire near Nur Shams Camp, east of Tulkarm, in ongoing violence that has persisted for over five months. Israel kills 3 rescuers, journalist in strikes on Gaza: Palestinian media

Israel killed three medical services staff and a journalist during strikes on Tuffah neighbourhood in Gaza City, Palestinian media said on Monday. The three rescuers were killed while working to save wounded people and recover bodies in the neighbourhood, Shehab news agency said. The Israeli military did not immediately respond to a request for comment. It said earlier that its forces continued to operate against what it deemed "terrorist organisations" throughout the Gaza strip. As many as 66 Palestinian civilians were also killed and others wounded on Monday evening as Israeli airstrikes continued to pound various areas across the Gaza Strip. Hamas-led fighters took 251 hostages and killed 1,200 people, most of them civilians, in an attack on Israel on October 7, 2023. In response, Israel's offensive has since killed more than 54,927 Palestinians, most of them civilians, according to health authorities in Gaza, and flattened much of the heavily built-up coastal territory.
