Central TB team reviews implementation of programmes in district
Members of the Central Tuberculosis (TB) Division visited Vijayawada on Wednesday, to review field-level implementation of the the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan in the district. The team commended the district and medical officers for their efforts in raising awareness about the prevention and control of tuberculosis. They visited the APIIC Colony Urban Primary Health Centre and reviewed the implementation of the Central programme. At the clinic they inquired about the awareness programmes being held, diagnosis of the disease, free medicines being given to patients, and preventive measures being taken to reduce contracting the disease. Later, they visited the TB lab at Siddhartha Medical College and inquired about the services there. The medical officers briefed them on the medical examinations conducted, treatment given, and nutritional food provided to patients through the Nikshay Poshan Yojana scheme. Officials added that steps are being taken to identify tuberculosis patients through village-level outreach. The diagnosed are being put on immediate treatment and provided with nutritional food.

Andhra Pradesh intensified crackdown on drugs: EAGLE head
VIJAYAWADA: IG-rank officer and head of the Elite Anti-Narcotics Group for Law Enforcement (EAGLE), Ake Ravi Krishna, reaffirmed the State's zero-tolerance policy towards narcotics and warned of stringent action against drug peddlers and smugglers. Speaking at an awareness session organised by Siddhartha Medical College under the Nasha Mukth Bharat Abhiyan, Ravi Krishna revealed that over the past six months, 740 NDPS cases were filed, more than 1,800 arrests made, and 19 tonnes of ganja seized. He also said assets of seven individuals were seized and eight were booked under the PIT-NDPS Act. He noted that ganja cultivation has drastically reduced from 11,000 to 100 acres due to enforcement and awareness efforts. Tools like drones, satellite imagery, and cordon-and-search operations have helped track and eliminate illegal cultivation. Initiatives such as 'Say No to Drugs, Say Yes to Skills,' 'Drugs Vaddu Bro,' and EAGLE Clubs in schools and colleges have seen positive impact. A 24/7 helpline, CAAL EAGLE 1972, has been launched for public alerts and quick response.

Tirumala Tirupati devotees warned against fake darshan tickets by agents
The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has issued a stern warning against individuals and agents duping devotees by offering fake darshan and accommodation tickets for Lord Sri Venkateswara Swamy's temple in Tirumala. Chief Vigilance and Security Officer (CV\&SO), KV Muralikrishna, on Friday cautioned that strict legal action will be taken against those cheating pilgrims by providing them with fake darshan tickets for Sri Venkateswara a statement, he stated that in March this year, a case was registered at Tirumala Town Police Station based on the complaint of Kumari D Sangamitra, a medical student from Siddhartha Medical College, Vijayawada. She was allegedly cheated by Maddela Deepu Babu alias Sandeep and Pawan Kumar, who collected Rs 2.60 lakh from her promising Suprabhata Seva, Protocol Darshan, and accommodation further said that complaints are being received regarding certain agents collecting large sums of money from devotees claiming to book darshan tickets and special surveillance teams have been deployed to monitor such agents. "Vigilance staff will check the tickets of devotees during darshan. If any ticket is found to be fake, the devotee may face unnecessary problems. Hence, devotees are requested to be cautious," he said. Must Watch

Ramanagara to be renamed 'Bengaluru South', says DK Shivakumar
Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], May 22 (ANI): Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Thursday announced that Ramanagara district will be renamed as 'Bengaluru South' for all administrative purposes. While speaking to the reporters after a cabinet meeting, DK Shivakumar stated, 'From today, it has been announced in the cabinet that Ramanagara will be renamed Bangaluru South. All the headquarters will be in Ramanagara'. 'Today, the entire cabinet had a discussion. I am very happy to announce that Ramanagara district was a part of Bangaluru district, the headquarters will remain in Ramanagara, but the district will be called Bangaluru South for all administrative purposes...' Meanwhile, on his earlier reported statement regarding 'wedding gift' by State's Home Minister G Parameshwara to gold smuggling case accused, actor Ranya Rao, Shivakumar said, 'It is not a controversy. Why should it be a controversy? I just checked with Dr G Parameshwara. He said that there were some weddings and he gave it at the time of those weddings. That is what I may be an accused, it is a crores of Rupees scandal. We don't want to interfere with or support anyone. G Parameshwara never supported anyone at any point in time. She is known to an officer who was working with him, I think he might have helped her on the occasion of the wedding, in the form of giving her a gift or something. That is what I asked him. As the party president, I had to ask him that...' Earlier in the day, G Parameshwara asserted that he is 'prepared to cooperate' with whatever the outcome of the probe. 'Yesterday, ED officers visited our institutions--Siddhartha Institute of Technology, Siddhartha Medical College at Tumkur, Siddhartha Medical College at Begur and Siddhartha Academy of Higher Education. I instructed my staff to cooperate with them and give whatever information they asked questioned our accounts section. The search is still going on,' G Parameshwara said. 'Being a person who believes in the law of the country, whatever comes out of the verification or search, I am prepared to cooperate,' he said. Parameshwara refused to comment when asked about the reports linking these searches to the Actor Ranya Rao gold smuggling case.'I don't want to comment at this point in time. Let the investigation be completed,' he said. Ranya Rao was arrested on March 3 at Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport after officials from the DRI found her carrying gold. On Tuesday, the Economic Offences Court granted conditional bail to the Kannada actor in the smuggling case. (ANI)
