How The Sixers And Quentin Grimes Could Find Common Ground
The Philadelphia 76ers and Quentin Grimes are, like many other restricted free agent situations around the NBA, without significant development. The Sixers are likely trying to squeeze Grimes, while he's trying to command a lucrative salary based on his play to wrap up the season. Major display window Since getting traded to the Sixers over the course of trade deadline, Grimes leveled up his play, averaging 21.9 points over 28 games, while sporting an efficiency of 59.2% true-shooting. Those numbers are fairly impressive, even if they were gathered primarily in the dead months of the active season. Often, that type of production on a bad team (which the Sixers were at the time due to a plethora of injuries) would be tied to middling efficiency, but that wasn't the case with Grimes. The 6'5 shooting guard showcased a much higher proficiency at creating his own offense than ever before, and he even began drawing fouls, which sent him to the free throw line. Grimes, who's primarily been seen as spot-up shooter who could complement high-usage players, now has shown an ability of creation which gives him a higher ceiling. While he's never likely to become some type of Tier 1 star, the fact that Grimes can create his own offense, including creating his own perimeter jump shots, has to be considered a luxury for a team that's often injured, and thus in need of players who can do something with the ball in their hands. What seems fair? Of course, teams will never pay a player for skills they don't expect them to use. If the Sixers see Grimes as primarily a role player, who can - occasionally - stretch his own limits, that's how they'll try to pay him. It might sound like a skeptical approach, but that's simply the reality of the situation. Furthermore, the organization is likely to use the small sample size, and aforementioned dead months of the regular season, as arguments against Grimes. They have no proof of the 25-year-old being able to do this consistently over the course of a full season, nor have they seen it when games truly matter. From the other side of the coin, Grimes did showcase talents no one really thought he had, meaning that's now something that has to be taken into consideration for the future. So, what's all this worth? It's a good question, and the answer probably lies in years, as opposed to raw compensation level, although that does matter as well. If Grimes is seeking long-term money, odds are good the Sixers are trying to get him at a lower number, so he gets financial security, but isn't stuck in their books at a hefty price tag, in case he regresses. But perhaps there could be common ground elsewhere. Should the Sixers hand Grimes a balloon deal, consisting of two years, in an attempt to see if he can justify that level of salary? That would at least be an interesting approach. Grimes gets a significant pay bump, but it only lasts for two seasons, and then he can play his way into a new deal, starting at similar value, in 2027 and onwards, assuming he maintains that level. If he doesn't live up to a two-year balloon deal, then he'll have to settle for a more realistic contract in 2027, which should then be easier to swallow given the seasons he, in this scenario, would have just completed. There should be a path towards agreement here. It's all about finding it. Unless noted otherwise, all stats via PBPStats, Cleaning the Glass or Basketball-Reference. Blazers' Jrue Holiday gives love to former Sixers star Andre Iguodala
Before being traded to the Portland Trail Blazers in the offseason, Jrue Holiday carved out a role as defensive star in this league. He began his career with the Philadelphia 76ers as the No. 17 pick in the 2009 draft and became an All-Star for Philadelphia in 2013 before being sent to the New Orleans Pelicans to kick off "The Process" era. Holiday then morphed into a defensive menace in New Orleans and helping the Pelicans win a playoff series in 2018 before being sent to the Milwaukee Bucks in the 2020 offseason. He won a title with the Bucks in 2021 and then with the Boston Celtics in 2024 before then being sent to the Blazers. Now in more of a mentorship role at this stage of his career, Holiday was asked about any veteran player helping mentor him at the beginning of his time in the league. He immediately gave a shoutout to former Sixers star Andre Iguodala as well as a couple of other former Sixers teammates: One was Andre Iguodala. He was a jerk. My rookie year, he was on me. He was on me about a lot, and I didn't really understand why until later. He obviously saw something in me that I guess I hadn't seen yet, and just constantly being on me and harping on me about being consistent and the things that I have to do were super important. I had Elton Brand, who, I think everybody knows Elton Brand's game, and his career has been amazing, and what he's doing in Philly. Also had Aaron McKie as a coach, so he was kind of like my player coach, who really instilled in me a lot of hard work, and because we were the same position, he coached me up a lot on how to be solid as not just as a player, but as a human, and kind of how that translates on and off the court. Holiday will look to help the Blazers make a push up in the standings after a few tough seasons in the midst of a rebuild. Portland showed some signs late in the 2024-25 season of turning it around and Holiday will look to help give another nudge to a team that hasn't reached the playoffs since 2021.

Sixers' Tyrese Maxey posts that he's back in the gym putting in work
Philadelphia 76ers star Tyrese Maxey is one of the more maniacal workers in the league. The former No. 21 pick of the 2020 draft has answered any and all questions about his game as he has morphed into an All-Star in this league and is considered as one of the top stars in this game. The 2024-25 season was down for him in terms of his shooting. While he did average 26.3 points, 6.1 assists, and 3.3 rebounds, his shooting numbers of 43.7% overall and 33.7% from deep were below his career norms. That's likely due to a number of factors from not having Joel Embiid and Paul George too much around him as well as injuries of his own. Either way, Maxey is back in the gym looking to take another step forward. He posted a boomerang on his Instagram story as he was at the team's practice facility very early in the morning. For the Sixers to have a shot in the 2025-26 season, they will need a clean bill of health while also getting their star trio all on the same page. They only played 18 games together in 2024-25 and finished 15 of them.

Sixers' VJ Edgecombe issues statement to Philadelphia in Players' Tribune entry
Philadelphia 76ers rookie VJ Edgecombe expressed his excitement to join the organization and the City of Brotherly Love in a written entry on The Players' Tribune. Edgecombe was the Big 12 Freshman of the Year, averaging 15 points, 5.6 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.1 steals on 34% shooting from 3-point range at Baylor. He finished in double figures 27 times, including a season-high 30 points on Jan. 22 in a win over Kansas State. The 6-foot-5 standout has had a brief opportunity to ingratiate himself with the team and city since becoming the third pick in the 2025 NBA draft on June 25. He detailed that experience, along with other topics, in the article released Wednesday on his 20th birthday. The journey has been crazy, man. It's just surreal. Philly, I'm proud to be one of you, now. Thank you to the 76ers organization for giving me the opportunity. I couldn't be more grateful to be here. Now, I've gotten the chance to explore a little bit. I've had some Philly cheesesteaks. I've run up the Rocky steps. I'm just getting comfortable and getting my bearings. But I'm really looking forward to earning your respect, and the respect of my teammates and coaches. I'm just trying to be a sponge and learn and absorb, and hopefully get better. Edgecombe debuted with the Sixers in the NBA Summer League, averaging 21.5 points, eight rebounds, four assists, two steals and 1.5 blocks on 42.5% shooting from the field. He was limited to two appearances due to a left thumb sprain. The Bahamian guard had the opportunity to meet teammate Paul George after appearing on the latest episode of "Podcast P" released on Monday. George told Edgecombe that he believes he can contribute next season and help the Sixers win based on his dynamic skill set and ability. Edgecombe has the potential to play a large role with the Sixers next season as a player who can affect games on both sides of the ball. Based on his latest letter penned on The Players' Tribune, Edgecombe appears to be ready to get to work.

Sixers legend Hal Greer ranked No. 13 shooting guard in NBA history
One may not know this, but the all-time leading scorer in the history of the Philadelphia 76ers is not Allen Iverson or Julius Erving or Charles Barkley. Maybe Wilt Chamberlain? Nope. It's the great Hal Greer with 21,586 points. Greer spent the entirety of his 15-year career with the Sixers with career averages of 19.2 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 4.0 assists while leading the franchise to a title in 1967. He and Chamberlain formed a formidable duo on the floor and grabbed the franchise its second of three titles the Sixers have won. HoopsHype ranked the top 20 shooting guards in the history of the NBA and Greer comes in ranked No. 13: One of the best and underrated guards of the 1960s, Hal Greer was an All-Star 10 times that decade and an All-NBA 2nd Teamer seven times, helping lead the Philadelphia 76ers to a championship in 1966-67 alongside Chamberlain in what was one of the most slept-on guard-big duos in league history. Greer's No. 15 hangs from the rafters at the Wells Fargo Center as his impact on Sixers history is an obvious one. He was an automatic bucket during his time in the league and was able help Philadelphia hoist the Larry O'Brien trophy.
