Rosie O'Donnell saves pensioner's life while out dining at Dublin restaurant

Comedian Rosie O'Donnell sprang into action while dining at a restaurant in Dublin earlier this week as she came to the rescue of an elderly woman who was choking on a piece of food. The actor, comedian and former talk show host, along with her youngest child Clay, moved to the Irish capital in January just days before Donald Trump returned to office as US President. The pair have been embroiled in a longstanding feud which stretches back nearly two decades, predating Trump's initial presidential run, back when Rosie was still a host on The View. Trump has repeatedly lashed out at her, branding her "disgusting" and "a slob" with "a fat, ugly face." Rosie had been out performing at the International Comedy Club on Wednesday evening and met up with her cousin Mary and her friend Kiki after the gig. The trio headed out to dinner at The Dylan Hotel in Dublin city centre when Rosie noticed a fellow diner who was in distress. The Sleepless in Seattle star took to TikTok on Thursday where she went into detail about the incident, explaining how she sprang into action after spotting that the 90-year-old woman was choking. Comedian and talk show host Rosie O'Donnell moved to Ireland in January with her eldest child, Clay (Image: GETTY) "I look across the restaurant and I see a 90-year-old woman choking, and she's with two women in their 50s, would be my guess, and I jump into action like, I'm an EMT, which I'm not, I'm a stand-up comedian actress," she said in a video posted on the social media site. "I'm eating my tuna tartar and I go, 'that woman is choking! That woman is choking!' "I get up, like nearly knock over the table, and I run over with Kiki and my cousin Mary, we run over to the woman, and I stand her up, and we put Kiki behind her and I put her fist in the right place, and she starts to give her the Heimlich, which she hadn't done before. "I'm holding her hands and talking to her and saying, 'it's okay, it's okay, can you breathe?' And I put my hand near her, and she could not breathe at all and she started getting red into the face, and now my heart is going, you know. "And I'm one of those people who in a crisis, I'm great, but after the crisis, I'm a mess. So it took about a minute [before] I screamed at the top of my lungs in this restaurant, 'call 9-1-1!' So, guess what? There is no 9-1-1. in Ireland, it's 999." Rosie was having dinner with her cousin and a friend at The Dylan Hotel in Dublin when she noticed a that fellow diner was choking (Image:for S) Rosie and her friend Kiki continued to perform the Heimlich maneuver on the elderly woman as her daughters watched on in horror, with the pair eventually managing to clear the woman's blocked airways. Rosie continued: "So, I'm coaching Kiki, who's doing it and I'm telling her what to do and I'm trying to calm the woman down and the daughters are upset. "My cousin Mary puts the napkin in front of her and says 'it's okay, get it out, get it out,' and I pushed Kiki's hand, and she got it, and something came out, a big wad of stuff. "It was unbelievable to me because I was thinking, 'am I going to have to do a tracheotomy?' I took a course, and it told they told you what to do if it wasn't working, and you we were in a dire situation, and we were in a dire situation." "I didn't know. In panic mode I go into thinking I'm Superman or something, and I'm not an EMT. But when I see something like that, I spring into action. "So the woman's name was Angela, she was 90 years old, and we're all sort of crying." Rosie said she was left in a state of shock following the incident and was unable to finish her meal, but noted that Angela had no qualms about tucking back into her food despite the distressing ordeal she had just endured. "So I go back to my table and I can't eat, my heart is going, I'm teary. And I look over, and there's Angela finishing her meal! Honest to God, it was unbelievable," Rosie said, laughing. "But I just wanted to say that if Angela or her daughters are watching, I'm so happy that everything turned out okay, and Angela, I hope you're feeling good this morning. "Really an unbelievable night. You know, sometimes God puts you in the right place at the right time, and you figure out what to do or what to say." Rosie finished off the video by responding to Trump's recent comments about her on his Truth Social platform in which the US President labelled the comedian 'a threat to humanity' and said he was 'giving serious consideration' to taking away her US citizenship. Hitting back at the US Commander-in-Chief, Rosie said: "Even though Donald Trump says I'm a threat to humanity, I'm not a threat to humanity here in Dublin. "I'm saving old women while I'm at dinner." Subscribe to our newsletter for the latest news from the Irish Mirror direct to your inbox: Sign up here.

Meg Ryan Is ‘Looking for an Amazing' Dating ‘Experience' as Lena Dunham Plays Cupid: Source

Meg Ryan hasn't publicly confirmed having a serious boyfriend in years — but according to a source, her Good Sex director Lena Dunham has been quietly setting her up with dates in New York. 'Meg isn't just linking up with Lena and her new movie to pad out her filmography – there's something a little deeper at work,' a source exclusively tells Examiner of the rom-com queen. 'It really comes down to Meg expanding her horizons and her social circle.' Dunham, 39, and her family 'run in a very interesting art-first circle that is incredibly intriguing' to Ryan, 63, the source says, noting it's allowing the Sleepless in Seattle actress to be exposed to 'new, interesting people.' As far as what Ryan is looking for in a potential partner, she has an 'incredibly open-minded approach to dating and hook-ups' and being an A-lister is 'not a requirement for her,' despite her past romantic connection to big names such as Dennis Quaid and John Mellencamp. The Top Gun actress was married to Quaid, 71, from 1991 to 2001, and they share son Jack Quaid together. Ryan and Mellencamp dated on and off for around eight years, between 2011 and 2019. 'Being an interesting person definitely is [a requirement],' adds the source. 'In that sense, even in late middle age, she has become a supreme master of no-strings-attached dating and never goes into these situations hell-bent on finding a partner for life.' Much like some of her famed rom-com characters, the source explains that Ryan is 'just looking for an amazing experience' and her colleagues may be the keys to opening up 'new romantic avenues for her.' 'It simply wouldn't be worth her time or energy if it didn't!' the source adds. It was confirmed in May that Ryan would make her grand return to the romantic comedy genre in Good Sex, alongside costars Natalie Portman, Rashida Jones, Tucker Pillsbury and Mark Ruffalo. The upcoming film follows a therapist named Ally (Portman) who is experimenting with dating again after the end of a serious, long-term relationship, according to the Hollywood Reporter. 'Ally gets more than she bargained for when she meets two men, one in his twenties (Pillsbury) and one in his fifties (Ruffalo), who show her there is no set formula for good sex,' the Netflix logline reads. Ryan is set to play the role of Ally's therapist. Dunham previously dished on the film, telling Variety: 'I know that there's an audience for it because I am the audience for it.' Who is Rosie O'Donnell whose citizenship Trump has threatened to revoke?

US President Donald Trump, in a recent post on Truth Social, threatened to revoke Rosie O'Donnell's citizenship, calling her "a Threat to Humanity" who should 'remain in Ireland'. Trump wrote on his Truth Social account,"Because of the fact that Rosie O'Donnell is not in the best interests of our Great Country, I am giving serious consideration to taking away her Citizenship. She is a Threat to Humanity, and should remain in the wonderful Country of Ireland, if they want her. GOD BLESS AMERICA!" Legal experts immediately dismissed this: The 14th Amendment guarantees citizenship for U.S.-born people like O'Donnell (born in NY). Jonathan Turley stated, "I know of no basis that could be used" for such action. While Trump previously tried to limit birthright citizenship, courts ruled it unconstitutional, indicating that O'Donnell's status is secure. Rosie O'Donnell, born Roseann O'Donnell in 1962 in Commack, New York, became famous as a comedian and actress. After her mother died when she was 10, she used humor to cope, winning stand-up contests on TV's Star Search in 1984. She starred in hit 1990s films like A League of Their Own and Sleepless in Seattle, often playing the funny best friend. From 1996-2002, she hosted the Emmy-winning Rosie O'Donnell Show, earning the nickname "Queen of Nice" for her warm interviews with stars like Tom Cruise and generous audience giveaways. She also championed Broadway and donated $1 million after 9/11.O'Donnell came out as gay in 2002 and became a fierce advocate for LGBTQ+ rights, same-sex adoption, and gun control . Her 2006-2007 stint on The View sparked fireworks, especially when she mocked Donald Trump's "moral compass" over a Miss USA scandal. Trump retaliated by calling her "a woman out of control," igniting a 19-year feud. During Trump's presidency, O'Donnell blasted his policies on social media, blaming him for environmental failures like 2025's deadly Texas floods. She moved to Ireland in early 2025, seeking Irish citizenship through her father's roots and vowing to return only when the U.S. ensures 'equal rights for all'.

All The Sharks Netflix, streaming now If you're wondering, 'Why all the shark-related viewing of late?' Well, the simple answer is that we're currently in the run-up to July 14, which is Shark Awareness Day. This summer also happens to be the 50th anniversary of Jaws, so one should expect an inordinate level of shark-themed programming over the coming weeks. A lot of it, however, does seem somewhat at odds with itself. For instance, last week saw the release of Shark Whisperer, which featured a herd of conservationists expressing concern about people, like Instagrammer Ocean Ramsey, interfering with endangered sharks. Now, Netflix is proffering an almost oxymoronic competition show, where conservationists infiltrate the oceans to tick all the sharks off their assigned apex predator bingo cards. If you favour more traditional shark viewing — ie. without a nigh-dystopic gameshow element — Sharks Up Close With Bertie Gregory lands on Disney+ tomorrow. Heads of State Prime Video, streaming now Have you ever considered a parallel universe where Idris Elba is the UK prime minister and John Cena is the US president? Well, now's your chance! For context, their 'special relationship' is under threat on account of their huge egos, but — once confronted with a common adversary — the pair must learn to rely on each other.
